How often do you wash your oven gloves?

My new cleaner seems to want to wash mine about every 8 minutes. It is driving me mad. Every time I turn around to grab them and take something out of the oven they are not there and I end up juggling with damp tea towels.

I was going to ask her to stop washing the bloody things (prior to her arrival they very rarely got a bath) but then It occurred to me that I might be a manky scrote, and maybe everyone else washes theirs as often as the tea towels too.

Well?

as often as I see I thread like this :) Ikea, white cotton gloves, FWIW. And they come up a treat on a boil wash.

YusMilady · 20/03/2011 20:22

Never! I figure the extreme heat kills the bacteria. I chuck 'em away when they fall apart.

memphis83 · 20/03/2011 20:23

mine are disgusting, I have had them 2 years and never thought to wash them until the new puppy whipped them off the oven door and thought they were tasty, so tomorrow I will buy new ones and wash them in two years

BunnyWunny · 20/03/2011 20:25

I don't even bother...

exexpat · 20/03/2011 20:27

ethelina - oh yes, I just had a look at the reviews - not good. But a friend has some silicone ones that do seem to work - must be a different, thicker brand...

exexpat · 20/03/2011 20:32

Maybe this one would be better - I have a lot of Built neoprene things, and they are very good quality.

ethelina · 20/03/2011 20:49

Ooooooohhhhhhhh!!

I think I'm in love Blush

Top marks exexpat Grin

I thought I was going to read this and discover that I am beyond skanky as I don't wash them very often but I am relieved ( and even Shock) at the amount of people who never wash them

Manky scrote gang member here! I do mine when I notice they've got a bit stiff and shiny! YUCK!

freshmint · 20/03/2011 21:36

all the time, they get manky just as quickly as teatowels IMO
but I have loads of them so it doesn't matter

wendylovesbob · 21/03/2011 03:45

Sad or not, it is a very MN thread. I pretty much ran to my computer when I realised I was pondering the issue Grin.

My autocorrect keeps wanting to change 'manky scrote' to Manly Scrota.

Ours keep disintegrating. We had a lovely Le Cruset glove, in black and cream, till DH bleached it. Now it is off white and pale brown Hmm

verysomething · 22/03/2011 08:29

If this thread is sad, I don't want to be happy Grin

I would never wash mine! I thought that washing them might ruin the heat-protectyness of the wadding/asbestos/whatever stuff is inside them.

SlightlyB0nkers · 22/03/2011 12:24

Another manky person here too. Only if I see something has spilled on them. They take ages to dry.

skybluewinking · 22/03/2011 12:30

I only used to do them every couple of months, but now I have a dog who thinks they are the most delicious thing ever! So I have to wash them every time they have been left in reach of his tongue, can't bear the thought of dog lick all over them.

applegeek · 22/03/2011 13:47

Um, I don't think I've ever washed mine, I stole my mums when i moved out because I liked it, I'm not sure how long she had it nor how often it was washed.

I'm so going to be washing it now though!

peachybums · 22/03/2011 20:17

Feel a bit better now, thought everyone would be washing every week! I wash mine approx every month or unless they look really manky :(

Gingefringe · 22/03/2011 20:54

Never occurred to me to wash them!! Mine just sit on the oven rail looking nice and I use tea towels to get stuff out of the oven and burn my hands

Lucky you having a cleaner.

Albrecht · 22/03/2011 21:08

Oooh I'm quite clean then - about every couple of weeks. But erm, some of you have different types of washes? I just bung everything in, either colours or whites.

I haven't cleaned the floors in bloody ages though and ds has just started to pick up random crap and eat it. So probably should do that instead of constantly washing the blinking ovenglove!
