Following on from the February Fledgling Flyers thread, welcome to March. This is the thread that follows the Flylady website (loosely) for getting your home decluttered and your housework into routines, whilst dispensing tea and chat freely.

A big thank you to PushMePullYou for leading us through February ably assisted by ToffeeFudgeCake. We had a huge influx of new posters as well, which was lovely, anyone else who is lurking, please say hello, you will be very welcome.

We have a fairly relaxed attitude to Flying and take some of the babysteps - such as getting dressed to lace-up shoes - with a pinch of salt. We also strongly advise against signing up for the FlyLady emails.

From the first of the month, we will be following Flylady's tips on restoring order to our homes, using one of the following methods:

  1. Babysteps
  2. Babysteps + 15 mins daily decluttering
  3. Babysteps + daily missions

Following the babysteps helps to establish daily routines and build a weekly plan.

If you are overwhelmed by the mess in your home, start with just one thing: shine your sink. It's amazing what you can achieve by just doing a bit at a time!

I've been lying awake for ages (2 hours? who knows) and have finally given up and come downstairs to have some Horlicks Hmm
I went to bed at 9.30pm Shock as I was so tired, and dh has new ploy of cleaning kitchen to his own standards, shutting door firmly and saying I've DONE the kitchen Grin

But early bedtime is too early for me, clearly, and turning me into an insomniac Hmm which I never was [sob]

unlike the rest of you Grin

MissJ sorry about the Parents, still it must be nice to know you are in SAFE HANDS. Annoying when you are trying to find your own way of doing things though. It sounds as if dd is having lovely days with you!

List for today
dd follow up orthodontist appt at hosp first thing
recycling (and they didn't take last week's plastic or garden waste [grr]
ds2 piano
Beavers help

various extra things - can't think about them now
Weblette good news for you with SS, it is a relief isn't it to have all the attendant planning, visits, discussions over and done with.
will try and go back to sleep now [Yawn]

PositiveAttitude · 02/03/2011 06:50

Good morning ladies Smile

Well, when I told DS that you all told me it wasnt pancake day he declared that you are all meanies Shock because he was looking forward to his pancakes for tea and you should all have played along with his deceit Shock Hmm! I had a manic evening yesterday taking DS to training - he is very happy as he has been moved up to the top squad Smile, then took a friend home from hospital, then on to an evening trustee meeting. GOt home at 10.15, everyone was in bed and all the pancakes gone from the fridge! Hmm

Big day at work for me today - eeeek!!
Meeting this afternoon which could be very fruitful for DD3s future plans.
Already done my S&S this morning

I've woken up with a splitting headache, which is very unusual for me. Just on the day I really need to be on top of my game at work Angry.
Off to see if I can shake this headache.
HAve a good day everyone.

swanriver · 02/03/2011 07:16

PA* good luck with today's big events, and especial good luck with your work.

I have been Flying, sitting around with a cup of Horlicks gets boring doesn't it?Wink

done
folded laundry and sorted the socks
unloaded dw
laid breakfast
may now put out recycling as I can see the front garden
waved welcoming flags at cat - nope - nowhere to be seen (no doubt despatching some poor rodent)
had coffee
dressed to socks

S & S there's a thought, but not much point until all the boys have left the arena Hmm

Asinine · 02/03/2011 07:33

Hi everyone.

Lace up shoes-
I do have a pair of indoor trainers which are my' get things done' shoes. I didn't buy them because flylady says you should but because I had dislocated my big toe and it helped to splint my foot when I was inside. The thing is, they really work! And what if you drop a knife or hot water etc on your foot?

Lists
I use my itouch to make lists of to dos, because then they aren't lost.
Today will be a declutter day, I still can't walk enough to go anywhere outside, so to rest my leg I will sit and sort through stuff.
The stove isn't in but thee is a massive hole now where it will go, and the messiest bit is over.

Reading that back I sound injury obsessed, but this break has brought my life to a bit of a grinding halt. Sad

NettieISroundlikefiggypudding · 02/03/2011 07:56

Good morning night owls and early risers. I have been both recently but actually got a very good nights sleep and am
Still lying in bed whilst dh bathes dc. They have been quarrelling loudly all morning.

Today's list
Dc to nursery (dh to convince nursery Dd is potty training even though she won't ask, needs lots of encouragement to use it) she is desperate to wear big girl pants. But last time we tried they put her back in
Nappies cos she wasn't asking and decreed her not ready Sad
me to work- bank recons to infinity. Well actually to start of this year because year end was delayed due to huge system errors!
Home routines
Missions
Bed

Exciting Grin

Have a nice day everyone.

feetheart · 02/03/2011 08:18

Morning early birds :)

All Flying and work on hold today as friend asked me last night if I would go to court with her today - for decree nisi (!) I think. Her H is being an arse and probably won't turn up but she felt in need of hand-holding which I am more than happy to provide.

Will be back later if there is time.
Have a good day everyone

Colourarc · 02/03/2011 08:24

Morning all waves

this morning I have:
tidied kitchen
made a box of mixed salad for the fridge
made a box of mixed salad for me (work has thrown me a curve already, I'm in this afternoon!)
eaten breakfast

kids are still sleeping

we are now waiting for someone to come and sort out our front door!
will try and get a quick declutter in this morning Hmm

have a great day, will be back later

LinzerTorte · 02/03/2011 08:36

Off to a late start this morning, as I've only just dropped off DH at the station, where we had a quick coffee (it's 9.15 am here and he normally leaves for work at 7 am). I was hoping he might be able to do the school run while I got on with things at home, but the DC were having none of it.

funambulist The DDs laid out clothes for the entire week not long ago, but unfortunately it seems to have been a one-off.

MrsRhettButler I can't function without a list, but if you look closely you may notice the same items coming up day after day. Wink

feetheart Hope all goes OK for your friend today; I?m sure she?ll be very glad of your support.

Nettie Lots of shouting here this morning too - neither DD2 nor DS was in a good mood when they woke up - which culminated in me storming off to my bedroom while DH took over. (It still ended up being me who had to persuade DD2 to get up, though.) Good luck with the potty training btw.

Asinine I like to have something on my feet, but I don't think slippers count as lace-up shoes in Flylady's eyes. Grin I also have my list on my iPod and love being able to tick things off with a quick tap of the finger!

It?s now gone 9.30 am (the Internet stopped working when I was in the middle of typing my post so I had to restart the computer) so I won?t spend time posting my list, especially as I have to leave for DD2?s English lesson in just over an hour. Grr at short mornings.

MollysChambers · 02/03/2011 09:07

Morning everyone.

That's DD1 & 2 off to school so just DD3 left at home. Much less stressful morning as I laid out their clothes last night - a habit I had got out of.

DD3 currently eating a yoghurt using three fingers and smearing leftovers on the table. Great.

Dishwasher emptied.
Reloaded with breakfast dishes.
Kitchen looking tidy. Yay!

Today I am:
swimming with DD
Tesco shop
Laundry - must put away the huge pile of clean clothes.
sorting out huge pile of paperwork

plus all the usual daily habits I'm adopting (what are they again?)Grin

Feel so much more in control. Had been in a bit of a rut.

TheSkiingGardener · 02/03/2011 09:11

My God this thread has inspired me.

I cleaned my shower

weblette · 02/03/2011 09:15

simonedeboudoir · 02/03/2011 09:38

Clean bathroom
Clean porch as instructed Smile

I'm loving this thread. Thanks for yesterday's summary WKWTTG

And well done MC - that's fantastic

Toffeefudgecake · 02/03/2011 10:11

Weblette, Swan and Darts - great news about the secondary school places. Smile

Have done my morning routine and got DS2 to school on time. The reward chart is working well - he keeps checking it to see what he has to do next. He ended up being ready 15 minutes early and having time to play with his new Playmobil.

Am doing home ed with DS1 now (I am doing decimals with him - I think he knows more about it than I do Blush), then going to have another bash at doing some of my own (paid) work later. DH and MIL are going to visit the sheltered housing at midday, then she is going home after lunch.

Still no car Angry. The garage have installed a new part in the engine, but there's another problem now. We want our car back! (And how much money is this all going to cost? Shock).

Toffeefudgecake · 02/03/2011 10:13

Where's that option, Linzer? Confused

Toffeefudgecake · 02/03/2011 10:14

It's OK - I have just spotted it!

Morning flyers, boy you lot can chat! I had 4 pages to catch up on just for yesterday!

today list
Upsairs morning routine done

LadyInPink · 02/03/2011 10:31

WKWTTG thanks for posting todays mission and babystep. Don't have a porch but do have doormats full of leaves so will get on with that job first.

Did declutter my kitchen worktops yesterday and dining room/lounge and (and this is my worst habit) took everything off the stairs that needed going upstairs and PUT IT AWAY - YEY!!! My stairs had got stuff on nearly every one and i'd stopped noticing it. DH was SO impressed!

Weeded front bed on Monday too and will tackle back jungle garden later this week.

Thanks ladies for all the encouragement Smile

funambulist · 02/03/2011 10:33

Toffee well done on DS2 being ready for school early, you must have had a nice calm start to the day.

Linzertorte very impressed with your long list. I can imagine my DD laying out her clothes for the week. She is super organised though she's only 8. Wish some of it would rub off on her brothers (and me!)

feetheart hope your friend is okay today.

So far this morning I have:

  • shined my sink
  • swished and swiped the bathroom and downstairs loo. I live in an area with very hard water and the toilets get covered in limescale really quickly, so I need to make sure this stays a daily habit.
  • put away the dry washing and put on another load
  • sorted out my hotspot (the kitchen table.)

I'm now having a Brew (anyone else want one?) and will send a few emails before getting organised for the 4 family birthdays coming up this week.

MrsRhettButler · 02/03/2011 10:40

morning all, well my door area is clear already so i'm going to try this list thing:

quick tidy of living room
quick tidy of kitchen
clean downstairs toilet
sweep and wash all downstairs floors
clean upstairs bathroom
attempt to start on dd's room (biig job)
put a wash load on

i'm a bit late starting today as i have morning sickness and i fell asleep after the school run Blush but i'm going to make up for it now :)

Jahan · 02/03/2011 10:42

Can I join here please?
My house is smallish and really, really needs decluttering. I've got tonnes of clothes (mine and kids) that need to be recycled. Wardrobes are bursting with clothes that aren't needed.
Toys are taking over the house and the house is really messy at the moment.
My bathroom and kitchen needs a thorough cleaning.

I first need to do a general clean and tidy up then I think I should tackle one room at a time like the zones?

I also need to spend a bit of time on myself (I think flylady suggests this?its been a while since I visited her site!) Beyond showering and brushing teeth, I rarely do anything else!

I also like her date night idea! Does anyone make an attempt at that?

swanriver · 02/03/2011 11:26

you are all very efficient Grin

so far, I've been with dd to the Orthodontic Hospital to follow up her op in Feb.
And put out recycling before I went.
All well. No more thumb sucking allowed though [help!)

and now we are back home from Chelsea and W, think I would like to go back to bed when dd has gone to school again - as I'm a Beaver helper tonight and I am now knackered..after 4/5am start.

Friend has just appeared on her new shiny motorbike!

Feet poor friend, at least he's being so awful she won't feel any doubts.

Toffee ds2 needs to know what's next in the morning too, he really values the "playing" time first thing - hope there is a nice space for your work today.
I had to buy a Maths facts workbook at weekend for ds1 as I am stumped by most of it and can't help ds1 who gets in an almighty muddle with things like fractions and long division. Helpful to have facts in front of you not dimly rememembered techniques...
