Following on from the February Fledgling Flyers thread, welcome to March. This is the thread that follows the Flylady website (loosely) for getting your home decluttered and your housework into routines, whilst dispensing tea and chat freely.

A big thank you to PushMePullYou for leading us through February ably assisted by ToffeeFudgeCake. We had a huge influx of new posters as well, which was lovely, anyone else who is lurking, please say hello, you will be very welcome.

We have a fairly relaxed attitude to Flying and take some of the babysteps - such as getting dressed to lace-up shoes - with a pinch of salt. We also strongly advise against signing up for the FlyLady emails.

From the first of the month, we will be following Flylady's tips on restoring order to our homes, using one of the following methods:

  1. Babysteps
  2. Babysteps + 15 mins daily decluttering
  3. Babysteps + daily missions

Following the babysteps helps to establish daily routines and build a weekly plan.

If you are overwhelmed by the mess in your home, start with just one thing: shine your sink. It's amazing what you can achieve by just doing a bit at a time!

Hello all. Here is my predicament. I have a tiny one bedroom flat and 22weeks pregnant. Somehow i have to declutter, tidy and clean way before baby is due. Each day I try to do 15 mins tidy in each room and have been using ebay, freecycle and charity shops to help declutter. Still there is not enough space. Today Ive cleaned the bathroom, hung new shower curtain and dumped a bag of rubbish.

Heres hoping this thread helps somewhat.

MrsSharp · 28/02/2011 11:17

Minda you get about 10 emails a day, most of those are talking about products they sell on the site, or a radio show the lady is appearing on, or testimonials for people. You have to actually search through and find the one that tells you what you should be doing.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 28/02/2011 11:17

The main problem with the emails is the quantity of them, several a day. Some of them contain the useful stuff, which we link to here, others are gushing testimonials and other ponderings, which I personally would never bother to read. There is a Daily Digest option though, so you only get one a day, I get that but I still don't bother reading most of it.

Can I sign up to lurk please. I have my final essay due he first weekend in April, a house that's a tip and an 8 month old with a chest infection, ear infection and oral thrush. Hopefully I can gain inspiration through lurking to launch myself with vim and vigour when April comes round.

NickNacks · 28/02/2011 11:33

Thank you- I'll give it another go! systemsaddict - I may be one of those special cases too Blush I dread the knock on the door in case it's someone 'popping in' - my worst nightmare.

NickNacks · 28/02/2011 11:35

Oh I feel for you TheSkiingGardener I have a 6mth old DD just getting over a chest infection- not good.

swanriver · 28/02/2011 11:38

well, I am going to give on Feb, and rush off and declutter my bedroom right now, whether it is in or out of Zone..
bbl in 30 mins.

swanriver · 28/02/2011 12:04

dealt with kitchen hotspot instead Smile
upstairs now!

BigFatSpider · 28/02/2011 12:20

Thanks systemsaddict - I think you may be me in a parallel universe! So, so familar... Fabric clutter is my absolute bugbear - but now DS is incarcerated in front of the TV I am going to have a serious sort through the clean washing pile (which snakes across the entire kitchen...) and try and get it cleared by the end of Aladdin! :)

perhapstomorrow · 28/02/2011 12:22

Could I join please? I had high hopes of spring cleaning my entire house during this week but I've fallen at the first hurdle. A teething baby and having to sort a few things out for my DH business has meant I've not started yet (apart from putting away some washing). The house looks a tip and I cannot get motivated to start. :(

I bought the flylady book about 2 years ago and failed miserably but perhaps a bit of morale support will make all the difference.

Right I'm off to shine my sink....then what do we do?

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 28/02/2011 12:35

Hello again,

Well, as everyone is so keen, I thought I'd post today's mission again

Monday's Mission

Which is to hotspot (ie clear flat surfaces) in the living room, chuck out all the rubbish, get a basket and pick up everything that belongs in another room and take it back there.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 28/02/2011 12:36

I'm going to turn off my computer now as I am not getting a lot of FLying done!

Toffeefudgecake · 28/02/2011 13:29

Have just had a week off Flying routines over half term, so need to get back into it again . I'm going to start by throwing all my clutter into a crate and hiding it somewhere putting it back where it belongs.

MollysChambers · 28/02/2011 13:33

Well I'm going to be rebellious from the start - living room is fairly clutter-free so doing the kitchen instead as it looks like a bomb has gone off

Imnotaslimjim · 28/02/2011 13:39

I'd like to join too please. After 5 years of cyclic depression and a DH that is next to useless (and a bit of a squirreller to boot) my house is a mess. I've tried flylady before but a downward turn sent me off track. Now I'm on a level and hate to see my house like this

I am generally keeping up with the kitchen now, I've stopped my hotspot in there and wash up every day. The living room and kids bedroom is my biggest problem so a kick in the right direction would be good please Grin

swanriver · 28/02/2011 13:39

I've lost a library book, and it's driving me mad! I think I'll just have to stop looking for it and tidy something else in the vain hope it will turn up when I'm not expecting it to.

SIL still not said what she wants me to do, she is waiting for appt news but won't let me help her otherwise, so I think I'm going to go out on some errands now minus library visit Hmm

Hello everyone. I've guiltily side stepped this thread in the past but would now like to join if I may. Is it ok to just lurk for occasional motivation or do I need to post?

Planning to sell the house sometime this year and have some serious cleaning light decluttering to do first.

Welcome SimonedeBeauvoir and all other newcomers

Just parking my bucket and mop

Or is this where we should be from now on? [confused again]

Stillchuckingit · 28/02/2011 16:07

And - very rudely forgot to say - a huge thank you for new thread Whoknows

ColdHeartedBitch · 28/02/2011 16:14

I have no chance of keeping up with the thread this month. And I think Whoknows is going to need lots of Wine for the roundup.

Migraine again. FLying today = laying out stuff for tomo only. Sleeping today then training. Similiar plan for tomo. will be back but wont keep up for personal messages. sorry.

LadyInPink · 28/02/2011 16:16

Wow this is definietly a thread for me. I love a clean tidy home but am not motivated enough to do it alone. I work from home so hopefully can fit jobs around answering the phone and typing contracts. If you post our daily missions whoknowwherethetimegoes that would work better for me as my computer syphons mail with more than 10 recipients to my bin so I'll never get them.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 28/02/2011 16:24

Gulp

50 posts and it's not even the start of March.

Just to clarify, for anyone who has been dropping in and out, I was previously OgreTriplets and before that Mrs Dinky. I got a bit tired of being called Ogre and wanted a name that can change easily for the seasons (WhoKnowsWhereTheEasterEggsGo etc) but still be recognisable. Plus it's one of my favourite songs. Enough about me!

My house is a tip today BTW.
