Following on from the February Fledgling Flyers thread, welcome to March. This is the thread that follows the Flylady website (loosely) for getting your home decluttered and your housework into routines, whilst dispensing tea and chat freely.

A big thank you to PushMePullYou for leading us through February ably assisted by ToffeeFudgeCake. We had a huge influx of new posters as well, which was lovely, anyone else who is lurking, please say hello, you will be very welcome.

We have a fairly relaxed attitude to Flying and take some of the babysteps - such as getting dressed to lace-up shoes - with a pinch of salt. We also strongly advise against signing up for the FlyLady emails.

From the first of the month, we will be following Flylady's tips on restoring order to our homes, using one of the following methods:

  1. Babysteps
  2. Babysteps + 15 mins daily decluttering
  3. Babysteps + daily missions

Following the babysteps helps to establish daily routines and build a weekly plan.

If you are overwhelmed by the mess in your home, start with just one thing: shine your sink. It's amazing what you can achieve by just doing a bit at a time!

Thank you WKWTTG on your first round-up, and boy, you did well with all those newbies, and all those many posts from today!

done list since last here:
2 loads of washing sorted, folded, old horrid socks binned, DD's meals all made for tomorrow, clothes all looked out for tomorrow, 'spoke' to friend on facebook chat, shiney sink.

Dare i say that i am going to attempt to go to bed?

Night all! x

Stillchuckingit · 28/02/2011 23:17

Crikey! Now that's a round-up and a half Whoknows!! Welcome to all newcomers!

And we have St Davids!!

Hope we get shamrocks soon ...

Toffeefudgecake · 28/02/2011 23:59

Can I add another St Davids to the thread, please?

WhoKnows - well done on your round-up!

Everything in place for tomorrow morning. I realised today that the boys did everything on their 'Let's Get Ready for School' reward chart - except actually go to school Confused. DS2 complained he was poorly, but spent the whole day dancing round the house in extremely good health. DS1 was meant to be working at home with me anyway.

Tomorrow I will get DS2 to school no matter what!

MIL is coming tomorrow morning at 10.30am, so that she can go and visit the sheltered housing on Wednesday.

Off to bed now.

Just one more St Davids cos it's so pretty.

swanriver · 01/03/2011 00:06

feels like I have gone from a fireside chat to a RAVE in one post!

Hello everyone.
see you tomorrow evening when the dust has settled Smile

swanriver · 01/03/2011 00:10

LOL toffee I love the Lets get ready for school chart!

Celestialstarlight · 01/03/2011 01:10

Wow I'm in awe of some of you guys. Here was I thinking I did well shining my sink! Have to let you know though that this may get tricky for me because of my CFS/ME so please bear with me if I can't keep up. I do promise to try my best...but somedays I can't get out of bed never mind tidy up and clean! I will nonetheless give it my best shotGrin

KatharineClifton · 01/03/2011 02:34

LinzerTorte · 01/03/2011 07:05

Morning everyone and hello to all the new fledglings Smile

Thanks for the round-up and links WhoKnows.

Just flying by to post my list - I can easily spend 30-45 minutes on MN after getting back from the school run, and have been doing so far too often recently, so will post and run now.

Morning routine
Mission
15 min decluttering (may be rebellious and declutter somewhere other than the dining room - not that we have a proper dining room - as that already seems to be covered by today's mission)
Take paper down to recycling bin
Take metal and glass to recycling containers
Plan tomorrow's English lesson
Finish letter
Post book delegated to DH
Get DVDs ready to send
Afternoon routine
DD1: letters x2
DD2: letters x3
Send photos to GPs
Evening routine
Do recycling calendar for neighbours

PositiveAttitude · 01/03/2011 07:14

Good grief!! Love the idea of joining a rave Swan, although I am too old. Blush

Thanks WKWTG for keeping everyone on order.

Celestialstarlight - sympathies for the CFS/ME. Here DD3 was diagnosed with the same just after her 14th birthday. We are now 2 and a half years on. She was severely affected for 2 years, but is starting to be able to have a little taste of teenage life again now. She manages 6 hours a week at college, but nothing else really, but that is hugely better then the months of 24/7 nursing care we were doing for ages. Anyway, just pop in when you can, you are very welcome. Smile

Full day at work for me today, then need to take a friend home from hospital and on to an evening charity trustee meeting, so no spare minute to breathe today. Chilli con carne is in the slow cooker already. And for the first time EVER I have resulted to buying pancakes for pancake day today, much to the disgust of the DCs (and DH Hmm) so I have found myself agreeing to make a mountain of them on Thursday Hmm.

Have a lovely day everyone and a few St Davids St Davids all round from me. Smile

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 01/03/2011 08:59

Is it Pancake Day today? I thought it was next week

Work today, have managed the morning routine and school runs, just need to go and finish drying my hair and get to work.

Welcome to KatherineClifton

4 pages already ShockShock
How is a girl to keep up?

After a lovely half-term/birthday fest the only thing on today's list is:

  • WORK - catch-up, bank rec, invoices

Will intersperse with Flying to relieve tedium/warm up and at some point will try and catch up.

St Davids - to one and all :)

Morning all!

It is a beautiful day here today, shame to be at work really!

Absolutely no flying to be done here today. We are setting off for Sheffield Arena straight after school. DS is impossibly excited and I feel for his teacher today tbh!

A very warm welcome to all you lovely ladies who have joined us this month! Speaking as one who has been here since the inception of this thread 18 months ago (a reprobate according to sc Wink). it really does make a difference. My house is by no means perfect but I have routines in place that I know work (when I use them Blush) and it doesn't take half as long to keep on top of things (apart from the laundry, my own personal bug bear!). Enjoy the thread and hopefully the ensuing clean house and please ask if you have any questions....I'll be sure to pass them on to someone who actually knows the answers Grin.

I shall probably not be back today as it will be a very late night so I will be back tomorrow!

Makingchanges · 01/03/2011 09:49

Good morning all

I woke up to a nightmare this morning - ants everywhere - We get them every year but this year they are everywhere. They were even inside DDs lunchbox (Yuck). SO I have cancelled my GYm appointment to have a good going over of the hall, kitchen and lounge before they take up permanent residence.

To Do.

  • Hoover Hall, Kitchen and Lounge
  • Mop all above
  • Spray ant killer on all the above.
  • Check cupboards in kitchen (they were in the cereal cupboard last year)
  • Finish essay
  • Mission
  • Write letter to new school placement starting next week
  • Post letter and some other bits
  • Pick up DHs dry cleaning
  • Buy bits to make chocolate biscuits that DH promised to make with DD but didn't Hmm the task has now fallen to me
  • Pick up DD and make biscuits
  • Make tea for DH and DD
  • Swimming lesson this evening

That will do as a starter - back later

Makingchanges · 01/03/2011 09:51

Oh Ellie whats on at the arena? (Only nosey to avoid it later when coming home from swimming)

Makingchanges · 01/03/2011 09:53

A question for all you seasoned flyers (And newbies welcome to answer too)

What can I use to clean out my washing machine - I have gunk in the seal around the drum and door - Should I just get a cloth to it or is there a better way?

Have rewashed clothes that DH took out of machine and left on the floor last night Hmm

Toffeefudgecake · 01/03/2011 10:00

St Davids St Davids St Davids St Davids

PA - my calendar says it's Pancake Day next Tuesday, so I think you have time to make those pancakes after all Smile.

PMPY - thank you so much for leading the thread during the last busy month. You did a great job.

WhoKnows - thank you for taking over.

Managed to get DS2 to school today, which was a major achievement because I couldn't even wake him up at first. He ticked off everything on his 'before school' reward chart and even managed to make his own bed (with my help). He was very proud of himself.

Today's list:

Put rubbish out done
B/fasts done
Lunch box done
School run done
DS1 - reading time (last vol of Cressida Cowell's 'How to Train Your Dragon' series, which he has loved) doing
Swish and swipe
Unload d/w done
Wet clothes in T/D done
D/W - towels done
Empty dishrack
Shine sink (to impress MIL Wink)
Make up guest bed
Make up DS2's bed
Put washing away (all over radiators Blush)
Take crate of clutter upstairs (surfaces look better now, though)
Tidy sitting room
Tidy DS2's bedroom (where MIL is sleeping)
Wash wooden floors downstairs
Wet washing into t/d
MIL arrives 10.30
DS1 - breaktime
DS1 - home ed - Maths and English and plan topic
Lunch
DS1 - free time
Work for two hours
School run
Put washing away
15 mins ironing?
15 mins decluttering?
Hotspots
Ocado order due 5.30ish
Dinner
Wine
Bedtime routines - boys
Before bed routine
Bed at decent hour (by 11pm. Aiming for eight hours tonight)

I think that'll do. I'd quite like to just sit here making lists, but I suppose I'd better get started. 35 mins till MIL's arrival....

Toffeefudgecake · 01/03/2011 10:01

Makingchanges - bicarbonate of soda, maybe?

Toffeefudgecake · 01/03/2011 10:03

MC - that was for the washing machine, obviously. Have just read further back and see you have an ant invasion. We had one in DS2's bedroom last summer. He made an ant city for them out of his Lego and was very upset when we said we had to get rid of the ants. We bought ant poison in little plastic tubs which we left outside the garden door - seemed to do the trick.

Makingchanges · 01/03/2011 10:10

Thanks toffee sadly I have a supply of the little tubs and the spray and other things that I know work. Its just a pain that it takes 1/2 a day to sort out. Our house used to be a farm and all the houses on the development get them. Going to put the ant tubs down as well

ballinderrymum · 01/03/2011 10:19

happy st davids day everyone St Davids - also it is the days the crows 'get married' apparently so that must mean its spring! i hope so. weather is great today so more washing to be dried outside. poor DD getting her preschool booster vac's today :( 2 injections 1 in each arm!!

It is a beautiful day here today!

making, that sounds awful! Poor you. Good luck with the de-anting! Yeuch!

Can someone please tell me what an e-cloth is?

toffee - love the get ready for school chart!!! Well done DS!!

So, good news! DD slept RIGHT THROUGH last night for the first time since last Wed night!!!!! Yee ha!
Her teeth can't be bothering her as much! Phew! - typical really, as her lovely little amber teething necklace arrived today! Can't wait to try it on!
She is still sleeping, be waking her shortly, if she doesn't wake herself!

Am going to visit an ex-colleague today, so should be nice. Must also go for a wee walk with DD before we visit, off to see the horses and chickens again! Got a great photo yesterday of a horse sticking his head right into the pram to say hello!!!

Not sure how much flying i am going to get done today! (Why is it that every night when i go to bed, my head is doing soooo much 'flying', shame i can't put it into practice!)

Righto, catch you all later.
