Following on from the February Fledgling Flyers thread, welcome to March. This is the thread that follows the Flylady website (loosely) for getting your home decluttered and your housework into routines, whilst dispensing tea and chat freely.

A big thank you to PushMePullYou for leading us through February ably assisted by ToffeeFudgeCake. We had a huge influx of new posters as well, which was lovely, anyone else who is lurking, please say hello, you will be very welcome.

We have a fairly relaxed attitude to Flying and take some of the babysteps - such as getting dressed to lace-up shoes - with a pinch of salt. We also strongly advise against signing up for the FlyLady emails.

From the first of the month, we will be following Flylady's tips on restoring order to our homes, using one of the following methods:

  1. Babysteps
  2. Babysteps + 15 mins daily decluttering
  3. Babysteps + daily missions

Following the babysteps helps to establish daily routines and build a weekly plan.

If you are overwhelmed by the mess in your home, start with just one thing: shine your sink. It's amazing what you can achieve by just doing a bit at a time!

Thanks toffee Smile

Hi all.
haven't had time to read thread today.
What an awful evening and night! Been up all night long with DD - who is miserable with a damn cold. Keeps crying her poor wee eyes out. really pulls at your heart strings! Damn playgroup! GRRR! Haven't managed to do anything today at all, except cuddle DD. Have finally got her down, i hope, for a sleep, just making myself something quick to eat, and hopefully i will get a nap too!
:(

Toffeefudgecake · 07/03/2011 18:10

Good luck, MissJ .

When my first DS wasn't sleeping and I was desperate, I used to dream of a service which provided child-care and sleep pods for exhausted mothers. I would have happily paid for that.

missjulie · 07/03/2011 18:15

thanks toffee! Yes, that sounds fab! Have rammed some butteries down my throat, and a glug of juice, and as my eyeballs are hanging down onto my boobs Blush, am going to attempt to get a sleep! xx

Toffeefudgecake · 07/03/2011 18:18

Poor thing. Sleep well. Smile

LinzerTorte · 07/03/2011 18:27

Oh no, poor DD missjulie - and poor you. Hope you manage to get some sleep now and that your DD sleeps better tonight too.

As DD1's friend was here until 6 pm, made dinner for them all (plain pasta, with optional tomato sauce. I don't think a visiting child has wanted sauce yet.) DD1's friend announced, much to my surprise as I was sure she ate meat, that she's a semi-vegetarian. This turned out to mean that she only eats big macs and, occasionally, schnitzel. Grin

swanriver · 07/03/2011 18:41

[passes MsJ nurofen, gin and a virtual sleep pod]

I should be pleased. I managed to get both twins to do ballet at same time, even though dd had a singing lesson just before in different part of town) Teacher was pleased I had also enrolled ds in rival Boys Ballet so he now gets two lessons a week from different teachers Hmm
They are both very behind in their age range as dd gave up at 6, and ds at 4, so small class in newly opened ballet school is a good introduction. They are v. enthusiastic!

However, feel like I have been driving round in circles for many aeons, feeding ravenous dcs doughnuts, changing shoes, handing out relevant music sheets, registration forms, kit lists, sewing on elastic, dropping ds1 back home, visiting pharmacies for dh prescriptions..

And I need to make supper stillSad
Good thing ds1 has gone to football.

So very disorganised today, I see it COULD work, but I need to make a plan for next Monday which is a bit less hand to mouth...

CHB I am joining you - still haven't mastered making beds bit - perhaps I don't care enough Blush

Sink and menu planning and laying out clothes have stuck though!

swanriver · 07/03/2011 18:45

omg, I have forgotten to take ds2 to Cubs! Aargh. And now he refuses to go, as it is too late...I don't think he wanted to go anyway (I certainly didn't Hmm

Oh dear swan sounds like a bit of a mammoth day!

I had a very productive day at work and don't feel half the failure i did at 7.30 this morning.

I didnt manage to get any flying done today, but that can wait until tomorrow or the day after. Wink

Just done the Waitrose shopping and have picked up lots of "use-by date" bargains to fill my freezer.

Bunch of St Davids for PMPY for tomorrow.

LinzerTorte · 07/03/2011 20:43

swan You may think you're disorganised, but it sounds like you've achieved a great deal to me.

PA Glad to hear you've had a productive day.

Was hoping for an early night tonight, but I've stayed up working (must quickly point out that it's gone 9.30 pm here, which is my ideal bedtime). Must set two alarm clocks for tomorrow. Have laid out DD1's Fasching costume (DD2 is refusing to wear one and DS has made his costume at kindergarten) and - unlike the DC - am feeling spectacularly unexcited about it being the most important day of carnival tomorrow. Also not looking forward to hanging around in the cold for hours watching all the floats go by (lots of sweets being thrown off them in the process, which is the major attraction for the DC).

LinzerTorte · 07/03/2011 20:43

Oh, and good luck for tomorrow PMPY! Grin

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 07/03/2011 21:02

Evening everyone,

Busy day here, beautiful weather which was nice. Inaugurated the school gardening club today, I was a bit nervous, but it went well, we planted some sprouting daffodil bulbs that had been loitering in my shed, did some digging and planted onions and broad beans. Helped at Beavers tonight too and it was lively, so feeling a bit volunteered out tonight. The house is muddling along, don?t feel as though I am getting much done but it is sort of OK. Got a huge to do list of other jobs this week though, plus work, so it may be all downhill from here.

First of all a big Best Wishes to PMPY for tomorrow?s planned delivery, we look forward to hearing from you again.

Listen does anyone mind if I give the full roundup a miss tonight? I am very tired and got lots to do, will just make one or two mentions.

MissJ ? fingers crossed for more sleep for you and DD tonight

Swan ? oh dear, hands out Wine

CHB

Push best of luck for tomorrow. We'll all be thinking of you. Please make sure you delegate all the household tasks for as long as you can. Baby and you are more important than anything.

To do list

The rest of the houseblessing done
Put away dry washing and hang out wet washing.done
Do school paperwork done
15 mins declutter/kitchen mission done
Hotspot (again!)done

If poss

Menu plan for the week nope
Clean hob maybe later (smiles hopefully)

Amazingly enough I've actually got through my to do list today. Probably because I kept it brief.

I have also started DS2 tidying his room (which is so awful that you can't see enough clear space on the floor to walk.) I am giving him a new challenge each day. First day it was to put away his clothes, Day 2 put the books on the shelves, Day 3 make his bed, Day 4 (today) put away his Geomag. Each day he has to keep up with the day before's challenges as well.

I am beginning to see the difference and I think by keeping the tasks specific and managable he isn't being overwhelmed with the task. And I don't have to do it! Grin.

The house is looking better too. Smile

pushmepullyou · 07/03/2011 21:37

Thanks everyone Smile

Just posting my list for tomorrow.....

Good luck for tomorrow PMPY - Enjoy lots of baby cuddles

Toffeefudgecake · 07/03/2011 22:06

I love your list, PMPY Grin. I second what Fun said: forget all about Flying and concentrate on yourself and enjoying your new baby.

WhoKnows - sorry you're so tired. Hope you get a decent night's sleep tonight.

Ihatecobwebs - I don't know how you do everything on your list. It's really impressive.

Linzer - I'm working late tonight too, as I didn't get any work done today. Hope you and your children enjoy the Fasching tomorrow.

PA - well done on a productive day at work and bargains from Waitrose.

Just finished reading 'Spiderwick Chronicles' (first one) to DS1. Can't wait for the next one (I think I might be enjoying it more than him, actually Blush). Now...

Load d/w
Clear out lunchbox for DS2
Lay out clothes
Make Horlicks
Do one hours' paid work
Stay off MN
Bed before midnight

And here are some more St Davids St Davids St Davids for you to take to hospital with you, PMPY Smile. We look forward to seeing you back here when you're ready.

Toffeefudgecake · 07/03/2011 22:10

Makingchanges - x-posted. I have a control journal and found it especially useful when I was establishing my routines. Now they are habitual, I don't tend to look at it so often. However, I also keep other stuff in there, such as Flylady's instructions on crisis cleaning, which I find very useful.

Colourarc · 07/03/2011 22:55

more St Davids for PMPY ~ feels broody in the corner

Not got too much done in the kitchen today, hoping DH will get some more done tomorrow when I'm at work (another extra shift in the pm)

Got all my list DONE today ~ smug ~ short lists work for me Grin

Tomorrow I'm just going to sort/put away todays wash load & put another wash on before I head out at lunchtime.

Tonight, a soak in a hot bath is in order!

Happy flying all, will try and catch up with ya'll tomorrow night xxx
