Welcome to the February Fledgling Flyers' thread. A very big thankyou to ToffeeChristmasCake (who will presumably return under her non-Christmas name Grin) for seeing us through the thick and thin of January decluttering.

All flyers and fledgings old and new are very welcome - we have a fairly relaxed attitude to flying and take some of the babysteps - such as getting dressed to lace-up shoes - with a pinch of salt. We also strongly advise against signing up for the FlyLady emails.

From the first of the month, we will be following Flylady's tips on restoring order to our homes, using one of the following methods:

  1. Babysteps
  2. Babysteps + 15 mins daily decluttering
  3. Babysteps + daily missions

Following the babysteps helps to establish daily routines and build a weekly plan.

If you are overwhelmed by the mess in your home, start with just one thing: shine your sink. It's amazing what you can achieve by just doing a bit at a time!

Pleased be warned that my month's leadership comes with a bit of a caveat as I am due to have DC2 at the beginning of March so there is a chance I may disappear mid month! Thankfully Toffee has very kindly offered to deputise in the event of the unexpected appearance of DS Grin.

Apologies to Toffee (and by extension Ellie) for blatant intro plagarising and thankyou to Nettie for the thread title Smile

See you all in February!

OP posts:
homeagainhomeagain · 03/02/2011 21:53

Actually, the length of some to-do lists has scared me. I am just going to shine the sink to see if it helps.

Stillchuckingit · 03/02/2011 22:09

....OK round-up Part 2

and sorry - bit of an error before- Toffee was not combing a HE, she was contemplating it!!

and forgot to say to OverflowingMUm that I hope she has a better night's sleep tonight and hope her .

Right, off we go:

Leo and Blijemuts have both have productive days as has ColdHeartedB who has also supplied us with a very useful "motto" Wink

Wendy's baby has had her first immunisations (awww) hope they went well

oh dear - getting a bit light-headed from scrolling now [sc reaches for gin bottle]

Doric was up at 5am - enough said

Ohmeohmy has been gazing lovingly at her shiny sink

Colourarc is another who can stay 'cos she likes this thread too!!! Grin Good luck starting work tonight!

Feetheart has been manhandling boltcutters and sorting out plumbing probs

Huge waves to Toffee Skiptotheend Nettie Systems Ogre and Trinity

Forgive me if I have missed out something vital or indeed missed out someone altogether!!

Back in a bit to post steps for tomorrow morning

Stillchuckingit · 03/02/2011 22:14

And in the meantime, we have a new recruit!

A warm welcome to Homeagain

Scroll right down to the bottom of the thread (Sat 29 Jan post by our usual thread leader PUshmepullyou - highlighted in green if you have changed your Mumsnet layout to latest setting.

That will give you the basic idea.

And take five minutes looking at the Flylady site itself here but whatever you do, don't sign up to e-mails or you will be inundated.

Don't be put off by horrid, cutesy language of site either. The underlying system is sound.

Just follow the baby-steps posted every evening by PushmePullyou and all will become clear. (I'm just posting them tonight and tomorrow because she is travelling for work.)

Any other questions - don't hesitate to ask!

Good luck!

Stillchuckingit · 03/02/2011 22:31

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Right ladies:

BABY STEP no.4 for tomorrow (Friday 4th Feb 2011) is here

Not all of us write things down on the post-its tbh so it's up to you. The notes are meant to add up to form the control journal (a later step) but not 100% necessary to my mind.

[Homeagain I think you would be better off just going back over steps 1-3 http://www.flylady.net/pages/begin_babysteps.asp here and read intro too]

Atm, we are in ZONE 1 here

And I'm reliably informed that tomorrow's mission will appear here if you click it tomorrow. Is that right???? (Someone pls correct me if not)

See here for more info

Can't find daily reminder either!! I'll post that tomorrow morning. I've obviously lost the plot. [Come back soon Pushme!!]

Anyway, TRY AND DECLUTTER FOR 15 MINS A DAY DURING FEB

See you in the morning everyone!

OgreTripletsAreSoCute · 03/02/2011 22:53

Well done SC .

Stillchuckingit · 03/02/2011 22:56

Last check in before bed:

Doric I hope your DP gets to work ok

Swan could your sil join Mnsnet local (or in a few weeks time) could she go out on her own and do a hobby she enjoys while your db looks after baby? [Sorry, not very original]

NettieISroundlikefiggypudding · 03/02/2011 22:56

good evening everyone.

alice we have been renovating since July 2010 with our 5th room just finished painting tonight and new fitted furniture at the end of the month. I generally been cleaning around the mess, strategically placed throws and not invited anyone over for a very long time until i could actually take some of dust away. Hotspotting and missions i think got me through as they at least made me think i was making some improvements. (oops waffled rather long time) Grin
coldheartedbitch Wink nice to see you
cobwebs hope you had nice time with visitors
linzer hope headache subsides. (never gonna let ds walk to school on his own never) (not at all overprotective Hmm) Grin

Hello everyone!

Came across you, and thought this sounds just what i need!!
Have signed up to the daily emails! (Am a bit nervous about this!!)
Have just become a SAHM, and am hoping to get us more organised! We live in chaos and are so disorganised!!!!

xxx

missjulie · 03/02/2011 23:07

Oops, jsut read stillchuckingit's post - and it says not to sign up to the emails! Yikes! What have i done?!!!

Stillchuckingit · 03/02/2011 23:09

OFM agree with Nettie - I don't know how you do it either. Hope your lo feels better tomorrow (left that off earlier post)

OgreTripletsAreSoCute · 03/02/2011 23:10

Just delete them!

missjulie · 03/02/2011 23:11

Ok, thanks Nettie, and Ogre! Shall do! x

OgreTripletsAreSoCute · 03/02/2011 23:12

Swan my local NCT was my lifeline when DS was born, they run a new babies group once a week here. Also the baby clinic was a good place to get chatting to other mums.

Stillchuckingit · 03/02/2011 23:13

x posts again!

Another newcomer!

A warm welcome to MissJulie

Um [cue menacing organ music] I think I would unsubscribe ...I'll look on the Flylady site tomorrow for any relevant info.

Did you give them your regular e-mail address? They do tend to send tons and tons of messages per day and it all gets rather confusing (hence the birth of this thread and others). We've found that it's just easier to follow steps and missions in isolation and refer back to Flylady site for back-up info only.

Don't worry! Will sort it out in the morning!

Stillchuckingit · 03/02/2011 23:17

Looks around, waits for a bit, taps foot ...

Turns off light, closes door firmly

Right, really am going to bed now!!

missjulie · 03/02/2011 23:21

Yes, i gave them my regular email address, signed up for 'daily digest'.

crisptart · 03/02/2011 23:24

Ooh can I join please?! I've virtually lived in my local charity shop these past few weeks as I've been busy trying to offload all the clutter all over the house!
I've tried Flyladying before, but don't get on with all the 'dress to your shoes' crap, or the 89,0000 e-mails a day.
I'm all up for baby steps, 15 mins decluttering etc and will be following this thread and doing what it says. Smile
Doesn't help I have a hoarding husband who is completely incapable of throwing ANYTHING away, so the more I declutter, the more he clings on buys more junk. Aargh!

pinkcushion · 03/02/2011 23:34

crisptart are you my twin? - we seem to be sharing the same life! Grin

missjulie · 03/02/2011 23:34

crisptart i think your DH and mine would get on like a house on fire!!! lol

Toffeefudgecake · 04/02/2011 00:18

Very late thanks to long heart-to-heart with weeping, stressed-out DS1, who I am definitely NOT taking to school tomorrow. I'm going to see if the doctor will sign him off for stress whilst we work out what on earth to do next. All I know is that we have tried everything to make the school work out for him and he is still suffering hugely and I can't do that to him anymore.

Update on my list:

Wash DS2's sheets (wet the bed for second night running) done
15-min declutter in bedroom nope
School run done
Update Tesco order doing next
Clean and clear fridge (from yesterday's list) nope - do tomorrow
PM routine done
Dinner done
Eve routine mostly done
Bed at decent time no chance

This thread has gone crazy this month. We'll be on 'Discussion of the Day' at this rate. I can't possibly do individual messages, so here's a welcome wave to all new fledglings and a big wave to the old timers.

PMPY - thanks for the steps and for the round up. I don't think I would have had the courage to attempt a round up on such a busy thread!

See you all tomorrow.

blijemuts · 04/02/2011 07:27

Morning Ladies, thought I'd check in in between serving breakfasts to guests. Quite a busy day today. It's Friday so usually all rooms clearing ready for the weekend..... Grin O next guests coming down the stairs... See you later!! Assume you lot realise I did get dressed for this !!

Stillchuckingit · 04/02/2011 07:39

Blijemuts oh I dunno, a naked hostess might add a bit of an interesting twist in the morning! Grin have a good day

sorry to hear your ds1 is stressed out again Toffee

A warm welcome to Crispstart - good luck with the decluttering

Julie as promised last night, look here step 13 to unsubscribe

Hope all missions and steps clear for everyone today

Friday night is date night according to the Fat Fairy and the reminder today is to do a 5 min room rescue.

I'm off to work now but I'll check back in every so often from there.

Have a productive day everyone. Knowing you lot, I'm sure you will!!

PositiveAttitude · 04/02/2011 07:50

Toffee, so sorry for you DS. I hope the Dr is understanding and you can both take some time out and get your happy son back. Sad

Welcome to more newbies. Smile

Mental day here today, so there will not be much flying in your sense of the word, but a lot of flying by the seat of my pants!! Grin

Today:
Job number 1 - deadline day, all ready for printing, BUT had a phonecall yesterday from boss to say he wanted something added!! {GGggrrrrrr)
Then on to Job Number 2 - Sort out all the paperwork and final preparation for 75 teenagers to go on a weekend away.
"Options" interview with DD4 and her school - she has not got a clue and I feel like giving up on the whole "supportive parent" lark!!
Make sure all Dcs are packed and ready for the weekend away.
Tea (quick tea tonight)
Take them all for their weekend away, which just happens to be at the same place as I do job number 3.
So, while I am there, I will do some work at job number 3!

One of those days of the year when I am negotiating with myself between job 2 and job 3, sending requests from one to the other etc. It SHOULD make it all easier, but it seems to make it easier for everyone else, but me! Hmm
Anyway, when I get home at 10pm I will be child free until Sunday lunch time. Its the first time in 20 years that we will have a night in the house totally child free!! And we get 2 nights!!!! Grin

Headless chicken day springs to mind!!

NettieISroundlikefiggypudding · 04/02/2011 07:59

Good morning flyers.

toffee Sad at ds being so upset! Must be so hard. Hope doctor signs him off ok and you can find a way forward!
