If your nest is cluttered and getting you down, join February's Fledgling Flyers and turn it around

Welcome to the February Fledgling Flyers' thread. A very big thankyou to ToffeeChristmasCake (who will presumably return under her non-Christmas name Grin) for seeing us through the thick and thin of January decluttering.

All flyers and fledgings old and new are very welcome - we have a fairly relaxed attitude to flying and take some of the babysteps - such as getting dressed to lace-up shoes - with a pinch of salt. We also strongly advise against signing up for the FlyLady emails.

From the first of the month, we will be following Flylady's tips on restoring order to our homes, using one of the following methods:

  1. Babysteps
  2. Babysteps + 15 mins daily decluttering
  3. Babysteps + daily missions

Following the babysteps helps to establish daily routines and build a weekly plan.

If you are overwhelmed by the mess in your home, start with just one thing: shine your sink. It's amazing what you can achieve by just doing a bit at a time!

Pleased be warned that my month's leadership comes with a bit of a caveat as I am due to have DC2 at the beginning of March so there is a chance I may disappear mid month! Thankfully Toffee has very kindly offered to deputise in the event of the unexpected appearance of DS Grin.

Apologies to Toffee (and by extension Ellie) for blatant intro plagarising and thankyou to Nettie for the thread title Smile

See you all in February!

Can I join too?

I've been decluttering like mad since the new year but I'm starting to wane - there's too much to do - our builder are due in April and either I declutter or I pay £££ to store junk.

I need you guys to keep me on the straight and narrow - stay focused and hit April with a house that's ready to be ripped to pieces and rebuilt as a homage to the 21st century.

See you tomorrow!

sittinghippo · 31/01/2011 11:01

I am going to sneak back in unnoticed, having not been here since the November thread Blush

Pushme you are very brave! Good to see you, the count down is on huh? I thought I would have a go at getting the house organised before my little one makes an appearance...

Looking forward to starting tomorrow, DH is finally going back to work after being made redundant before Christmas, I don't know about all you ladies, but keeping on top of housework when there are others about is so much harder.

sittinghippo · 31/01/2011 11:03

Oh pushme I hadn't realised we have the same due date! Race ya!

blijemuts · 31/01/2011 11:11

Ihatecobwebs · 31/01/2011 19:35

Just marking my place for tomorrow, before I start on end of year paperwork - and there goes my evening.

pushmepullyou · 31/01/2011 21:04

Happy February fellow fledglings. I'm going to post the links tonight as I'm not reliable enough in the mornings Grin.

The first baby step for the month is to shine your sink. Shining instructions are here. For those of you that haven't done this before it really does work I promise! If you are new to flying this is all you need to do so don't be intimidated by the rest of the links, although they are good for a nosy if you're feeling keen Smile

Our February habit is to declutter for 15 minutes a day. Decluttering hints and tips are here and here. I have to admit I don't always manage this (and don't have the bin capacity for it either!), so often end up cramming an hour or so in to the weekend instead.

We are in the living room for the first part of this week and the hall, entrance porch and dining room later, so for those of you decluttering these are the places to start. Don't overwork yourselves though, no good can come of cleaning burn out this early in the month! Just set your timers for 15 minutes and see how much you can get done.

For those doing missions the link is here

I see from toffee's final post on the January thread that Tuesday is water your plants day and there are also daily reminders - how have I been here so long without knowing this Shock.

OK so a brief roundup for the pre February part of the February thread...

We are very please to welcome lots of new flyers who will I'm sure be sink shining enthusiastically by tomorrow morning Grin. So hello and welcome to lemondifficult, MrsShrek (have you been here before?), doric, fishandlilacs, Cribbage, NickNacks, Scout, MommyMayhem, Runforthehill, Cristiane, pinkcushion, blijemuts, and itshappenedagain. I think I've got everyone, but apologies to anyone I've missed.

Regular flyers ogre, toffee, Linzer, Positiveattitude, arabella, ellie, lair, feetheart, swan, nettie and ihate have already been in marking their places and are looking forward to a month of clutter clearing and general polishing Grin

Sittinghippo and I share a due date Shock. You're definitely on for a race, although I might have a slight advantage as I am having an ELCS on 8th March if I haven't gone already Grin.

See you all tomorrow - I'm off back to the January thread to post my today's list Smile

leothelioness · 31/01/2011 21:31

Hi everyone,
Dare I join?
I fell off the fly lady band wagon rather spectacularly in october/nov last year so will tentativly peep in and see how it goes.

I need to decluter and get the house under control between finishing of a course this week and starting 2 more at the end of the week, and juggling 2 little monsters ds too!

ChairmumSupermum · 31/01/2011 22:06

Hello ladies!

Tomorrow's list:

  • morning routine
  • drop baby with friends
  • gym for weights induction
  • collect baby from friends and toddler from nursery
  • do something fun with kids
  • evening routine
  • childminding course - and I won't be home for the baby till 10.30!!!

I shall start the month as I mean to go on - with a smile on my face and a shine to my sink (and food in my hair, knowing my kids)

ToffeeChristmascake · 31/01/2011 23:19

Thank you for the links and the round up, Pushme.

Not sure how much I will get done tomorrow. DS1 is still grumbling about feeling too ill for school. Am meant to take him for a follow-up dr's appt after dropping DS2 off at school, so will lose the morning at any rate. I'd better keep my list really simple.

AM routine
Lunchboxes etc
School run
Dr's appt
School run again (if DS1 goes to school)
Lunch
15-min declutter
Laundry
Ironing
CRB forms
School run
PM routine
Dinner
Eve routine
Bed at decent hour

Speaking of which, I must go to bed. See you all tomorrow.

Colourarc · 31/01/2011 23:36

Good morning everyone,
up early, did sink with toilet cleaner, didn't have bleach(don't have washing up bowl either).
Do you have any tips on things I should buy? I really have no idea...
Happy Flying

LinzerTorte · 01/02/2011 08:39

Morning all and welcome to the new fledglings Smile

Off to a late start this morning, as DH had a meeting in town and didn't need to leave for work until two hours later than normal so we went out to a cafe after the school run. (Was very tempted to tell him I had important decluttering to do, but don't think it would have gone down too well!) Anyway, I now have only two hours left of the morning so won't post a list - will just get on with my morning routine and do the mission and decluttering.

runforthehill Microfibre cloths are your friend. Grin We were talking about how wonderful E-cloths are on the last thread, so I'm going to try shining my sink with mine today. I don't generally use many cleaning products, apart from toilet cleaner, as microfibre cloths are generally enough on their own.

leftoversforbreakfast · 01/02/2011 09:16

Having lurked in last month's thread I think this month I'd better actually show my face then I might actually get around to trying some of this stuff rather than just thinking it sounds like a good idea!

ohmeohmy · 01/02/2011 09:42

late joiner here....I will declutter and clean repeat till believe it. Right sink here I come

missmakesstuff · 01/02/2011 09:56

Right, am joining.
Sink is bleaching as we speak, have a lovely swimming pool aroma in my kitchen.
Our house is so bad, we have been doing DIY forever for about 5 years, gutted the place and rebuilt ourselves, so always have power tools and paintbrushes lying around..also have 9month old dd, and DH whilst he tries, is useless.

Am going to do the 15 min thing, but am going to make Dh do it too - I think if we both do 15mins of something everyday, hoovering, tidying, washing, decluttering, then that is a step in the right direction, surely?!

The shiny sink thing - is that every day? or is it just kind of keep the sink empty f dirty plates etc, and shine once a week or so?

missmakesstuff · 01/02/2011 09:58

Sorry, should have clarified, Dh is useless at keeping the house clean or tidy. Not generally useless.

mrsdisorganised · 01/02/2011 10:03

Can I join too....lots of help/support needed...in fact maybe I should just order a skip and be done with it! Going to read the links and figure out where to start!
