'His and hers duvet' - got one? like it?

I would really like one of those duvets you can buy that are different tog ratings on each side, for when you are a couple where one of you gets hot in bed and the other is always freezing. But I wonder how good this is in practice - does the heavier tog side weigh more? does it slide that way? And is it thicker on one side making the bed look odd when it made? (not that our bed gets properly made each day! )
I'd love to know if you've got one and whether you like it?

Secretlemonade, Do you mean two duvets sewn together, or two separate ones? In the same kingsize case?

i have one of these. it's brilliant! i have a silk one so doesn't seem to be hugely different thicknesses. you certainly can't see that it's two different togs.

on the weight side, one side does weigh more i think, but doesn't seem to slide around.

i bought mine from gingerlily and we have never ever looked back.

I don't have one, but I really don't like the two separate duvets thing -- there are too many freak blasts of freezing air when you move towards or away from each other.

sep. duvets, sep. covers, 1 big throw on top for daytime. For cuddles you can overlap duvets etc., then afterwards wrap your legs around them both sides Chuck a double/king throw on during the day to make it look nice.

Warthog, good to hear you like yours so much. I just checked out the prices - ouch! Have you got the warmer or cooler of the two combinations?

yes it is expensive.

however, after 10 years of being extremely uncomfortable (always too cold) and haggling over who has most of the duvet, it is worth every penny.

neither of us complains about the temp and we both have enough duvet.

the other thing that made a huge difference was we bought a duvet that was much bigger than our bed. we have the smallest size bed and we bought a supersize duvet. sounds wierd, BUT it feels like we have an enormous bed now. don't know why. and i'm toasty and warm.

was the BEST thing we ever did on the bed front. won't be buying another duvet for about 20 years!!

I think ours is called "cosy cool" - I ordered it online, and it cost about £100, but has been worth it - it's a double 4.5 tog duvet and you can add up to two extra 4.5 tog single duvets to each side (giving the options of 4.5 tog, 9 tog or 13.5 tog). It doesn't seem to slip off towards the thicker side and doesn't look noticeably uneven when the bed is made - the layers are quite thin. I'd definitely recommend!

Thanks Annabanana, i'll see if i can find it online. I'm sure when I first heard about these things a few years ago, there were more of them about. I wish I'd bought one then, instead of the pj's, hot water bottle, and extra throw I need while Dh is roasting hot!

We have 2 seperate duvets absolutely love it, no having it whipped off me by a sleeping dh anymore he is only allowed summer tog in the winter to stop him being sweaty!

But two-duvet people, how do you manage cuddling/de-cuddling? One duvet has to flap slightly over the other and this introduces a draught. And then if your DP turns over they open up a glacial chasm down the middle. Or do you overlap them more than that? In which case isn't there a hot central wodge?

We have two single duvets and we don't have any issues with draughts. When we stay somewhere that only has one double/king size duvet then I do have a draught problem because DH tends to roll with it which pulls it taut and there is a draughty gap between our bodies.

two single duvets + covers of course, 6tog for dh 13tog for me.
cuddlig etc no problem
never too cold or too warm, no fights for some cover when going to bed at different times. not going back to a double duvet!
