Welcome to the October 2010 Fledgling Flying thread!

This is where from the 1st of the month, we attempt to declutter and follow the 30-step wisdom of the Fat Fairy, with lots of chat and support and mutual motivation along the way. (More info available here!

Many thanks to our September thread leader StillCounting for guiding us through the traumatic back to work and school period with lots of support and guidance!

As usual we will be following a three-pronged approach (and don't worry - we are all at different stages):

  • repeat or start baby steps (again!)
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

or

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

Together we can do it! All newcomers welcome!

Evening. Ds is asleep, the oldies have explained at great detail their 2 week holiday. Praise has been given for the prep for decorating and the fact that the hall and landing are imaculate. I might have cheated and put the box from the landing that i hadnt got round to sorting in the space in the bath that i created when i sorted and cleared a box. but Sssshhhh. I wont tell if you wont Wink Grin

Ds' has got his room tidied and such that i could clean it. He was very silly in patches but did improve through the afternoon. I however remained a grumpy ass and he had to deal with it. (tbf his behaviour and actions this morning would have probably have caused even the most patient to be a grumpy ass for the rest of the day) Tomo will be a fresh start and i suspect he will be an angel. Athough it does seem that he cant tolerate the sugar or something in milk chocolater, which is something he is just discovering being cleared of his allergies earlier this year.

Kitchen is sparkly and pleasant. Lounge looks like a bomb has hit it as it contains the oldies stuff from their holiday. But that is their mess and i dont have to deal with it. progress is being made.

So i am going to relax with a bit of QI and a large packet of biscuits. Hopefully you are all enjoying relaxing evenings or sleeping peacefully.

Linzer Hope you got spoilt rotten today.
swan sympathies. Glad you have good calming techniques. although yours are more superior then you are staying in your bedroom until mummy calms down a bit
mini hope you are resting and not being run ragged this weekend.
MrsD hope you are having a restful evening and feel better soon?

Grin waves at sleeping fledglings
feetheart · 10/10/2010 00:59

I saw you :)

(disappears off again fretting about forgetting something for Autumn Fayre tomorrow - no, TODAY. Must go to bed!)

TeasingFireDemons · 10/10/2010 01:11

Good luck with the fayre feetheart.

swanriver · 10/10/2010 15:19

It's a beautiful day in the South! Off to park now, having finally tidied kitchen. The mess here was actually making me miserable. I was seething when I came back from church to find that dh had gone to Morrisons again to buy unnecessary things (no doubt they will come in useful though Wink, instead of enjoying the break, and not touched any of the things that actually needed doing (if he was going to be a martyr Hmmmow the lawn for goodness sake or lay the table... or even...dare I say it, wash up?

so I have been a badtempered old bat. The children react to this by saintly behaviour, it's really very odd?

Nettiespagetti · 10/10/2010 16:00

All consumed by visitors here! Not quite ready house not quite tidy so trying to make up for it by feeding them well. Just done roast and homemade Yorkshire puds. Also been to play park Grin

Had meltdown at swimming Lessons this morning proper floods of tears from me Blush they lost all of ds and Dd swimming certificates and badges dating back to 2006!!!! Instead of angrily stating my displeasure ending up a weeping mess who couldn't look at anyone or talk to anyone! Wonder when oh when i might be mature enough to handle difficult situations without crying!?!?! Blush

teasing loving new Halloween name
swan that's a brilliant result even if grumpiness is necc!

Waves to everyone and stomps out like hear of elephants.

TeasingFireDemons · 10/10/2010 20:08

Evening. Child asleep. hot water bottle warming bed. just need a cold drink and i am set for an early night ShockGrin

BobLoblaw · 10/10/2010 21:08

Oh no Nettie that's rubbish I'd cry too. You've made me want yorkshire puddings though Grin

I may try that next weekend swan ds has been stroppy at every point everything has not been going entirely his way.

I've had a reasonably productive day, cooked tea, cleaned kitchen and bathroom, ironed all the uniform and packed school stuff into the car ready for the morning.

I'm going to be a good FlyLady this week :)

Hope everyone has had nice relaxing weekends.

Ihatecobwebs · 10/10/2010 21:24

Evening ladies

Early bed tonight I hope. Still recovering from the Apple Day and the prep days leading up to it. Was shattered yesterday evening, and have done very little today.

Morning routine - sort of done
Crop share in near by town - visited, and apples obtained, also promise of delivery of jam jars (much needed, as I have a lot of fruit in the freezer awaiting action)
Forage in fields behind mother's house - done, blackberries and sloes collected, noted haws and rosehips available
Tea - done (reheated yesterday's leftover cassoulet)
Bedtime routine for DS - done
Updated home journal and set up daily lists for next week - done
Washing up - started

To do
Washing up
Set breakfast table
Freeze remainder of cassoulet
Freeze sloes and blackberries
Go to bed!!!

MrsDinky · 10/10/2010 22:10

Evening all,

Early beds all round tonight I think.

Ihate has been foraging again. It all sounds very idyllic! I wish I liked jam a bit more, I love making it but rarely eat it and neither does anyone else much one jar can easily last a year Chez Dinky.

Teasing like the new name

Babystep. Add an inspirational page to your control journal .

Mission. Not sure yet as the sneak peek page is not updated yet, but this week we are in the bathroom.

IHate and mrsd we looove jam in this house, we get through oodles. Sometimes when I'm very depressed I eat it by the spoonful Blush Apricot is good when you are icing cakes too! So it would be worth me making some. Just can't quite find the glut I am looking for Hmm

Nettie I would have cried, and do often Wink
Bob sometimes they are just contrary - distraction is the only thing that works here

MrsD the light was so fine wasn't it, I think it's the low sun which you don't get in the summer (except late at night when one is not usually walking around a park)

Done
made gammon roast and parsely sauce for lunch
cleaned kitchen
rescued kids rooms
put out clothes
managed to get family out in fresh air for three hours and to church
sorted recycling
forced dh to mow lawn
watched Downton Abbey and drank a glass of red after long abstinence Smile

Stillcounting · 11/10/2010 07:24

Morning all. [Scoffs spoonful of jam]

Thanks for steps MrsD and sorry to see you are suffering atm.

Owing to the glorious weather, dd and I were out of the house most of the w/e (gardening, riding & walking in woods) while dh recovered from jet-lag. Completely fell off Flying wagon in process - went to bed last night with washing up from supper stacked on kitchen counter, no clothes laid out, homework unsigned/unchecked etc Blush, all main rooms a disaster zone. Hence have spent last 2 hrs running around like a loon and am only about 50% caught up.

List so uninspiring and ground-hog-day like I can't bear to post but suffice to say I've got to do finish my morning routines, go to work, do school run, do laundry do afternoon routine, blah, blah, blah. Feeling thoroughly uninspired if I'm honest.

Sorry for lack of individual messages but will be back to catch up with thread later on!

Have a good start to the week everyone.

LinzerTorte · 11/10/2010 08:12

Good morning,

Another lovely sunny day here today, but there's a definite nip in the air. We had nice weather for my birthday yesterday too, but didn't get up to much as the DDs were invited to a birthday party in the afternoon; we went out for breakfast, but otherwise had a nice lazy day. DD2 had a friend to stay the night; not the best idea on a school night though (her parents were going to a concert, otherwise we'd have suggested Friday or Saturday) as all three girls were very late going to sleep but up at the crack of dawn. Early nights all round tonight, I suspect.

SC You're not the only one feeling uninspired this morning, although the fact that you've already spent two hours running around is more than impressive.

MrsD Hope the early night helped and that the threatening cold doesn't develop.

Ihate It doesn't sound to me like you did very little - very Envy of all your foraging.

Bob Well done on your productive day.

Nettie Poor you; I would probably have burst into tears as well. Is there any chance of the certificates and badges turning up after all?

swan DH is constantly driving me mad by buying unnecessary things (esp. for the DC and esp. Lego; we have far too much as it is). I am considering buying him a Lego medieval village for his birthday next month - have I gone completely mad?

Teasing Well done on the sparkly kitchen; hope you managed to get your early night.

Right, must get on with my list:

Bank done
Food shopping done
Unpack shopping
Washing on
Ironing
Morning routine
15 min decluttering
Mission in bathroom
Mission in DC's rooms
Finish application to translation agency
Update calendar
Send school photo to GPs (NB find out from DH where it is first)
Phone dentist (orthodontist has decided DD1 needs to have a tooth extracted as she has too many)
Letter
Pay holiday deposit (and poss. insurance)
Decide about travel insurance for flights at Christmas

swanriver · 11/10/2010 09:41

routines: breakfast clear, beds, s & s, bin, dw, what's for dinner

then I think I am going to leave homebless for today and concentrate on dreaded secondary school paperwork. Might have to wipe the table first though Blush

feel v. v. tired due to head cold.
SC I think you will remember the fun but not the washingup pile.
Oh yes the plastic horses were prizes for Race Night (sort of virtual racing - fun raiser - you pay to enter race and get prizemoney if you win) They were surprisingly successful, although next time I think we should provide pony stickers for those children/parents who don't win as there were a few tears Sad

swanriver · 11/10/2010 09:42

fund raiser

Toffeefudgecake · 11/10/2010 12:54

Busy weekend, so no posting here. I actually have a day at home ALONE Grin today and no paid work to do, so I'm doing all the jobs that I've been itching to do for ages. So far, I have cleaned the fridge, taken in the shopping from Tesco delivery man, filled up the fridge with fresh food for the week (still using the Resourceful Cook for my menu planning) and filled up the d/w. Am now cleaning out a kitchen cupboard. Still to do:

Tackle piles of washing - iron, fold, put away
Put w/m on with another load (it never ends, does it?)
Get big bin bag and tackle DS2's bedroom, which looks as if it's been burgled.

I'm actually going to ignore the Flylady missions for the moment and just stick to my routines and decluttering. Decluttering is the secret.

A belated happy birthday to you, Linzer!

Waves to everyone else.

BobLoblaw · 11/10/2010 15:06

Oh eck, I borrowed a carpet shampooer, went merrily on my way, now everywhere is wet, feck, what do I do now....

I have done bugger all except my morning routines and making everywhere wet, been at school with dd, she was a star though :)

PumpkinBrain · 11/10/2010 15:42

morning. afternoon.

sorry but another name change. I have been doing some thinking and figuring out what it is that i want out of life. I need to declutter spiritually and well as the house.

Today have been a cba day. But good new is that the PCT says i can have my meds so will go wave my lovely little green piece of paper at the pharamist later Grin All meds reviewed and proper med plan drawn up. so happier in a lot of respects.

Right I have be in head up own ass mode recently and not managed to hold a thought or thing that i have read in my brain so here goes:

PA - been thinking about you. How are you? Hope dd3 has been in less of a nightmare mode. Keeping my fingers crossed for good news for you for tomo.

Ellie- How was the child free weekend?

Linzer - card is delayed, i have forgotten to post it Blush, Lego have a lovely snow scene that they have just brought out. Maybe if DH has his own lego to play with he wont have to borrow the dc's Wink

PMPY - how is BIL? have they managed to stabilise him yet?

ihate - i am very Envy of all your home produce and your lists. Others have complain about mine, but I think your list are the most Envy

Mini - how was your weekend? Did you manage to rest despite the house guests?

Toffee - turn not to burn out getting everything you want to do done. Enjoy a guilt free cup of tea in peace.

Bob - it depends on how wet is wet. I have used carpet shampooers before and some leave the carpet wetter then others. If possible, you might be able to remove some of the excess water from the carpet but running in suck only mode. Otherwise it might be a case of leaving to dry. PLanning on doing the carpets next month and i reckon it will be about a half minimum for drying.

tigger32 · 11/10/2010 15:58

Have done nothing today except morning routine and helping out at school.
I have a really sore throat and just want to sleep.

However I am going to do

Afternoon routine
10 min declutter in the lounge
Take all bits at the bottom of stairs up
Fold washing
Mission

Oh I did manage to do my home blessing yesterday.

MrsDinky · 11/10/2010 21:32

Evening all,

Well, today in Fledgling-land,

SC managed a considerable amount of early morning Flying despite feeling uninspired.

MrsD also felt uninspired but managed a few random jobs (cleaned out the gas BBQ, re-hung the lounge curtains) but not much actual Flying. Also helped at school and Beavers, so tired tonight.

Linzer reported that she had had a nice birthday, it sounded lovely.

Swan felt under the weather . Hope you are feeling a bit better tonight and had a restful day.

Toffee made the most of a rare day home alone with a big list.

Bob wet the carpets (been there, done that). And had a nice time at school with DD, which is more important than a few wet carpets IMHO.

PumpkinBrain had good news on the medication front and speaks for us all when we say we are thinking of you tomorrow PA.

Tigger - another candidate for the hot toddy. Well done for still going to help at school.

Waves at Darts, MissB, MiniM, Nick, Ellie, Feetheart, Nettie, Ihatecobwebs, Seeker, SaharaS, Desiretochange, PMPY, Namechange100, Pluto

Which reminds me, Ellie - do pop by and tell us how your weekend went.

OK, off to do the links followed by Ocado (I have such a fun life). See you all tomorrow.

Stillcounting · 11/10/2010 21:35

Evening all. Hope everyone is OK.

Day of drudgery here but at least it was lovely and sunny. Dh and I have had bit of a spat. He has two business dinners and a late meeting this week when he was away all last week and will be away all next. I wouldn't mind so much but he didn't let me know and I have plans for tomorrow night which I'll probably have to cancel if I can't get a baby-sitter at such short notice[grrrr].

MrsD, Toffee and Swan hope you start to feel better v. soon.

Linzer Happy Birthday for yesterday! I'm glad you managed a lazy day ....although sounds as if your w/e activities were focused on dc rather than your good self ...ain't that always the case!!

PA thinking of you tomorrow!! We are with you in spirit. Fingers and toes crossed and sending positive thoughts!!! Hope it all goes OK - let us know how you get on when you are feeling up to it.

Pumpkin good news about the meds

Bob well done to your dd and hope you are drying out now ... Oh yes, I fancy chickens too and would love the chance to have one collie dog.

Toffee Well done on putting your free time to such good use! I wish I could get the "itch" to do various jobs around the house... sadly I usually get the itch to sit down and read a book Grin

Swan like the sound of yoru fund-raising idea. Oh and my dh does the "dashing out" thing at the drop of a hat - to the office - to the supermarket. Any excuse not to stay at home and face the drudgery!!! Angry

Ihate cassoulet is one of my favourites - I'll pinch a bit of sloe gin too if you are making any Smile

Hope you had a better day today Nettie

Hope you are not over doing it Mini!

Wishing you and your family strength Pushmepullyou. Going back and forth to the hospital can be very draining. Take it steady x

Hope the fayre went well Feetheart! Let us know!

Mahoosive waves to all. Got to go and hang up uniform washing as did nowt all at w/e!!

See you tomorrow!

Stillcounting · 11/10/2010 21:39

Sorry! x posts MrsD. Thanks for round-up and well done with the curtains - hope you manage an early night!

Forgot to wave to Ellie too!

MrsDinky · 11/10/2010 21:41
