Welcome to the September 2010 Fledgling Flying thread!

This is where from the 1st of the month, we attempt to declutter and follow the 30-step wisdom of the Fat Fairy, with lots of chat and support and mutual motivation along the way. (More info available here! )

Many thanks to our previous splendiforous thread leader Ellie for guiding us through July and August and to her dynamic deputy, the one and only PA. You've both made it a lot of fun!

As usual we will be following a three-pronged approach (and don't worry - we are all at different stages):

  • repeat or start baby steps (again!)
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

or

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

Together we can do it! All newcomers welcome!

Hi all

Quick catch up as dd says she is ill again and I brought her home from school at lunch time (at least I was already there!) She does look pale but I dunno ...I sense there is something else behind this ...

Bob no wonder you are proud! Have just looked at your photos and your dd is totally GORGEOUS!

Sympathies over the shirt issue Swan my dh gets through circa 10/11 per week (7 during the day and he often changes for evening events). Tbh I've been taking them to the laundry but it's very expensive and I feel guilty now I'm not working so many hrs so it's back to the ironing board!

Another impressive list Linzer - keep going!

Happy baking MrsD

Oh no PA sorry to hear you are still feeling so poorly. Try and rest!!!! Good to hear about dd3 and the new timetable though!

Toffee I like the sound of your new schedule

Got to go ...now dd is at home again I've no excuses to avoid housework ....

MrsDinky · 16/09/2010 15:53

Flapjacks are not nice! I hereby unrecommend that recipe, will be going back to the butter and syrup method next time!

BobLoblaw · 16/09/2010 16:08

Hope your dd is ok SC and yes dd is a bit gorgeous Grin

I'm so glad dp doesn't wear shirts my ironing is poor at the best of times

Thank you for that MrsDinky I was going to give them a go tomorrow and now I won't bother!

Well done swan you've done loads :)

My list looks pitiful in comparison Linzer

Hope you are resting PA

How's it going toffee ?

BobLoblaw · 16/09/2010 16:08

Oh hope it went ok at the dentist ellie

swanriver · 16/09/2010 16:33

Evening events! that sounds nice and posh SC..I fear dh's evening event is having a curry from Morrisons Hmm
school is so tricky isn't..ds2 (8)is sad today because it turns out that he is sitting next to his favourite girl for literacy maths everything really, and she is fed up with helping him with his spelling Shock so he wants to move tables so that she still likes him...?

ah well managed a fair bit of ironing
and rescued kitchen too in about five minutes flat

have given children goldenn syrup on buttered toast, basically same constituents as flapjack, and taken them to park (where unfortunately ds2 had nervous breakdown)

now car for bulbs
failed on boot mission

Toffeefudgecake · 16/09/2010 17:12

Well, my structured work plan didn't quite go according to plan, but I have done more today. Also, I had an email from work which spurred me into action. I really needed that kick up the backside. DH is out tonight, so will have to put the kids to bed, then will have another bash at it. Might allow myself one glass of wine too Smile.

Have to get DS1 to do his hwk tonight to hand in tomorrow. He has to do something 'creative' on World War II. I have been trying to get him to do something all week. Tonight he insisted he had it all planned Hmm. When I asked him what he was going to present, he said he was going to hand in a letter his grandma had written about her memories of the war. He was most put out when I said that wasn't good enough! So now he is going to write a story based on her memories. Are all children this evasive about homework, I wonder? (mind you, have just noticed an interesting correlation between mother and son here - so that's where he gets it from Blush).

Swan and Still - way too much ironing! I always tumbledry DH's shirts then hang them up. He doesn't get them ironed unless he does them himself.

MrsD - shame about the flapjacks Sad

Bob - did you get a nap?

Ellie - did you survive the dentist?

Hi PA. Will be thinking of you tomorrow. Let us know how it goes.

Have managed to get sheets in the tumbledryer, but apart from that nothing else done in the house. No missions today, I'm afraid.

OuchPassVodka · 16/09/2010 18:20

Am tired. havent done much flying. about to eat tea and then crash. Today has been good to myself day. coffee and cake with friend. lots of nattering. feel very relaxed and calm. which is totally different to the last few days. think it helps that i havent taken the asthma steroids today, i forgot in the shit overslept panice this morning. thank goodness clothes were laid out and lunch made. else we would have been very late.

Stillcounting · 16/09/2010 18:36

Well, I've just put dd to bed early and she's crying Sad. She wants her pa and he is out at an aforementioned business event (not so posh in reality Swan - he's self-employed so continually trying to drum up business - just wish he didn't see a newly laundered shirt as essential to the process Grin!!) Anyway, dd isn't happy, I've read her three stories and made up another one but she's still inconsolable. Can't work out if she is ill or not. She looks pale and is definitely out of sorts. I'll go and check on her again in a mo ...

Thanks for sympathy too Swan - totally agree about school and how all the social interactions, who sits with who and who plays with who etc is SO important to them...it's come as a bit of a surprise because I must confess that I can't remember being that fussed about it when I was at school but it's probably soooo long ago I have forgotten. Hope your ds2 feels better tomorrow x

Golden syrup on toast sounds like heaven btw!

Toffee well must hand it to your ds1, you must admit it's a VERY creative way of doing homework without doing homework!! But I guess that sort of creativity doesn't count in terms of marks sadly!

Right, off to check on the patient ...

Can't keep up with you all - go away for a couple of days and all sorts happens!

I continued to be a goddess of the domestic sort on Tuesday - room rescue, hoover and chocolate cake made before I went to work Grin but don't worry, the feeling's worn off now Wink and I've done very little since then. Mind you, work has been hectic so that's my excuse!

DD2 - my baby :) - is going to be 15 on Saturday. I am slightly traumatised! And gone are the days of polly pockets, Barbies and the like - she wants Doc Marten boots and the top of her ear pierced!!! Shock But we are planning a nice girly shopping day with some friends so that will be nice. Just got to get through tomorrow first.....

Hope all goes well for everyone tomorrow and PA you are OK

elliepac · 16/09/2010 22:26

Evening all. I just about I survived the dentist but it was a vile experience. I am nowhere near as brave as linzers dh and took all the drugs on offer. So much so I only got feeling back in my face 4 hours later. Had several fillings done and now my mouth feels a little weird Grin dh is chugged because I've been quieter than usual tonightGrin. Was planning on big post and proper catch up but bf turned up. She is getting married next week and is unbelievably stressed so we drank tea and ate biscuits instead so I will say goodnight in the hope that the fat fairy at the top of the faraway tree doesn't come to me in my dreams again. Maybe that lady who washes a lot on the tree(mrs washLot?)is a convert and not bonkers but just following her babysteps. If I don't get on in the morning pa good luck for tomorrow, will be thinking of you all day xxxxxx

Toffeefudgecake · 16/09/2010 23:54

Ended up helping DS1 with his hwk until 10.30 and he's still awake nowAngry, so no work done this evening after all. Have two hours free tomorrow whilst DS2 is at school, so I will have to use that time for work and forget about the housework. DH is taking the DC out on Saturday, so hopefully I'll get a bit more work done then. After that, I don't have childcare until Wed. We really need the money, but it just feels impossible to get the time I need. I suppose it will get easier once DS2 is at school full time.

Ouch - glad you had a good, relaxing day.

MissB - well done on your Tuesday domestic goddess achievements. Enjoy the girly shopping trip on Sat.

Ellie - dentist sounds horrible, but I'm glad you had a nice time with bf. I remember Mrs Washalot! She was a bad-tempered woman, as I recall - I wonder why....

Might do a few minutes work now, just to appease my conscience. DS1 is downstairs again - will never get him up for school in the morning at this rate.

Good luck tomorrow PA. Let us know how it goes.

feetheart · 17/09/2010 06:21

PA - lots of positive vibes coming your way from here

Bob - agree with the others, your DD looks totally gorgeous.

Need to write email then will try to come back and post list.

Going to be a strange w/e here as DH and DD going camping from tonight until Tues night. Off to circus festival in Bristol. DS and I have to stay behind as don't want to take him out of school before he is even in full-time! However we are going to the Fire Station Open Day on Saturday Grin

Stillcounting · 17/09/2010 06:31

Good morning, sorry a bit late, hit the snooze button this morning

Today's baby-step, no.17, is an important one: here choosing a reasonable bed time and sticking to it

(especially for Ouch and me that one Grin!)

Today is last day of being in Zone 3 here!

Mission is bathroom floor + 27 fling boogie in "other room" here!

Friday night is date night (not for me it ain't [harrumph])

Here are today's indoctrination reminders!

That week went quickly didn't it? Have a good day!

OP posts:
Stillcounting · 17/09/2010 06:32

OP posts:
LinzerTorte · 17/09/2010 07:51

Date night, SC - what's that? Grin I shall be having an early night (so actually doing today's baby step for once) as DH wants us all to go to the opening of Austria's largest photovoltaic plant tomorrow Hmm - which means leaving at some ridiculous hour in the morning as it's a couple of hours' drive away.

Hope all goes well today, PA - sending lots of positive thoughts your way.

Toffee When will your DS be starting school full time? I will have to wait until secondary school before the children start staying beyond lunchtime - by that time, I assume they'll be capable of occupying themselves if I need to work, though!

Anyway, today's list:

Morning everyone! Am currently sat on a bus on the way to flamingoland. Every year the school take a thousand odd pupils as a reward for working hard last year. The sun is shining and it should be a good day.

I hereby place myself in the naughty corner as this morning was the one morning this week I did not do my routines. >.

PA look after yourself this weekend and try top do something to pamper yourself.

feetheart · 17/09/2010 13:06

OK, back much later then I'd planned but I have done stuff!

  • Morning routine
  • Shopped for DH and DD's trip
  • Cleared up after blardy cats - kitchen looked like murder in a pillow factory, and that was after the daed mouse on the floor at 6am Angry
  • Hoovered kitchen feather-fest, hall and stairs
  • Packed up food and stuff for campers
  • Made Lemon Drizzle Cake for campers to take with them
  • Investigated fund-raising tea towels for school

Still to do:

  • Go into loft to find DD's bag and her warm pyjamas
  • Pick up DS who will have had school dinner today (not quite as keen as was with packed lunch yesterday but think it is the unknown that's bothering him)
  • Pack clothes for DD
  • Make brownies with DS for campers and those left behind
  • Pick up DD and wave fond farewell to her and DH
  • Potter with DS till bedtime
  • Early night for him and me I think

Have 10 mins before I have to leave to get him - loft I think!

feetheart · 17/09/2010 13:06
