Do you iron...

your bedlinen?

My Mum came round today, and popped up to use the loo. While she was up there, she popped her head round my bedroom door (as usual, she always does this) and came down and said 'Ooh Eve, you are a lazy cow aren't you?'

I asked her what she meant and she had a go at me for not ironing my bedlinen. I have to say, this isn't high on my list of priorities.

So who irons their bed sets?

What's an iron? Grin

Jazmyn · 29/08/2010 10:18

Tell her times have moved on, Women have more to do these days then spend all day ironing and doing house work!!!

No, I dont iron anything ... I used to iron my uniform when I was in the police but now I only use an iron when I'm making clothes or curtains etc but otherwise it never gets used!

I certainly never iron bed covers!!! That's akin to ironing socks.... I never understood that either! :-/

whomovedmychocolate · 29/08/2010 15:56

The idea that people who iron need to get a a life is quite insulting and weird. I expect I spend more time ironing than watching TV. Is watching TV more morally good then? Hmm

MN is by it's nature, infested with slatterns Grin

Maisiethemorningsidecat · 29/08/2010 16:00

I (occasionally) iron the duvet cover and pillow covers on our bed - but the DCs sleep in unironed bed linen, and no harm seems to have befallen any of them. We both work almost f/t, have 3 kids and not enough time to spend together as a family - ironing bed linen is way down our list of priorities.

Lulumaam · 29/08/2010 16:04

I don't iron bedding, or underwear.. except for vests , as they are uncomfy if crinkly next to your skin

i don't understand who people who don't iron anything manage.. everything i own needs ironing , i don't tumble dry things though.. straight out of the machine onto the airer, all straight and neat, but still dries crumply.

if i didn't iron, we'd all look like crumpled wrecks who'd slept in their clothes...

am i doing something wrong.. having spent 90 minutes ironing this morning. everything from jeans to tea towels...

puddlepuss · 29/08/2010 16:09

I've never ironed my bed sheets in my life and would probably get on very well with hmmsleep, but I started running holiday gites this year and have to iron kingsize, double and 2 single sets of sheets every Saturday - HATE it! Although I bought a fancy-pants iron and am now a bit obssessed with dd's clothes being crease free. This tickles dh as I had survived the first 5 years of marriage owning either an iron or a board - never both at the same time so no ironing could be acheived!

taffetacatski · 29/08/2010 16:19

trumpton - thank you so much for posting that how to fold a fitted sheet link - my slovenly airing cupboard hacks me off no end, primarily due to my rubbishly folded fitted sheets.

< rushes upstairs for a quick practice >

I don't iron any bedding except pillowcases. I can't see the creases on anything else whilst I'm in bed. Grin

Its so funny how ironing gets emotive - don't mention tea towels......

puddlepuss · 29/08/2010 16:28

Look at !

xkaylax · 29/08/2010 18:19

I used to and still do sometimes but realised what a waste of time it was as ours and ds's is non iron and hardly creases Grin

DandyDan · 30/08/2010 11:06

a) ironed stuff feels better, esp. bed linen.

b) I think ironing stuff keeps it in better condition

c)tumble-driers are bad for the environment and the electricity bill, and some of us don't have them.

pirateparty · 30/08/2010 13:08

Ohhh - thank you DandyDan for giving me another reason not to iron - ironing surely will increase my carbon footprint...

All that electricity - can't believe any of you do it really - you're all destroying the planet I tell you, destroying the planet with your fancy ironing things........Grin

I don't tumble dry nor do I iron...

moragbellingham · 01/09/2010 10:32

Pillowcases yes, anything else no.

That's why when she has visitors to stay it's always a big dramarama!

I do dust coathangers occasionally though - it makes your clean clothes dirty.

tefal · 01/09/2010 10:34

Never unless we have guests and only then if I have time

moragbellingham · 01/09/2010 10:36

Trumpton - that sheet folding is a revelation! I'm off upstairs to make some more room in my drawers.
Looks like it may take some practice.

mousymouse · 01/09/2010 10:39

I just hang the bedlinen as smoothly as possible to dry and smooth it out again when folding.
I must be very bored to start ironing bedlinen...

I didn't used to iron anything up until a couple of months ago, then I got this sudden irrepressible urge! Since then, I iron everything, including knickers and boxers. I just set up my ironing board in front of the TV and watch repeats of come dine with me. I love it!

Quattrocento · 03/09/2010 00:41

No of course the bedlinen isn't ironed. Who irons bedlinen? Unless they are really short of reasons to validate their existence.

Clary · 03/09/2010 00:45

I do but not the sheet as it's fitted (so too hard and not much point).

I have a very dear friend who does the sheet too.

But the ironed duvet cover and pillowcases are just sooo nice on the day they are put on. Mine are 100% cotton if that makes a difference (I think it does).

I washed mine yesterday, dried on the line and ironed last night and in blanket box this am

Yeah agree wmmc, MN full of slatterns. Ugh to bedlinen on bed for 2 months uuurrrrggghh.

I too iron while watching TV so really it's to make me feel better about Mad Men/Big Bang Theory.

TonariNoTotoro · 03/09/2010 00:52

No.

[waits for VinegarTits to tell me I'm a slattern Wink ]

TonariNoTotoro · 03/09/2010 00:56

I;m going to buy posh linen sheets so I don't have to bother ironing them

hidetheelephant · 03/09/2010 01:51

Those of you who don't iron do you all have tumble driers or use fabric conditioner?

hidetheelephant · 03/09/2010 02:22

If not I have a non ironing thread too here Grin
