Do you iron...

Eve4Walle · 28/08/2010 15:34

your bedlinen?

My Mum came round today, and popped up to use the loo. While she was up there, she popped her head round my bedroom door (as usual, she always does this) and came down and said 'Ooh Eve, you are a lazy cow aren't you?'

I asked her what she meant and she had a go at me for not ironing my bedlinen. I have to say, this isn't high on my list of priorities.

So who irons their bed sets?

Bloody hell, I thought you were going to say 'Do you iron?' full stop.

Only when I can't avoid it any longer. Putting things flat on the Aga top to dry is fab - automatic ironing Grin.

I iron DH's shirts when he gets really grumpy about it (to be fair he does often get up mega early to go to work and doesn't get back till really late - whilst I work part-time).

Frankly life's too short and much too busy to be ironing unnecessary stuff Wink. By unnecessary I mean most things.

Only if having posh visitors to stay. Otherwise I have much more interesting/important things to do. These days I hardly touch the iron - my hubbie does his own shirts, though I do his trousers, cos he gets a wee bit confuzzled with them, and my daughter irons all her own things for work.

I've got a sister in law who irons her towels, which I think is a bit weird.

FreakoidOrganisoid · 28/08/2010 16:44

I don't. My mum always says 'that's lovely bedding, would look really nice if it was ironed wouldn't it? (harharhar)'

YunoYurbubson · 28/08/2010 16:46

No.

But I have A Lady Who Does Wink.

She is a demon at folding fitted sheets too. Awesome.

FreakoidOrganisoid · 28/08/2010 16:55

I may not iron but I do fold my fitted sheets properly Grin

And my unironed linen is folded and stored far more neatly than my mum's ironed stuff.

SkylineDrifter · 28/08/2010 17:08

Yep - always fold everything, inc fitted sheets, and store in neat piles in linen cupboard.

Actually this thread has motivated me to get out bed changed, as hubbie is away for a couple of days and due home tomorrow night - wonder if I should iron them for him coming home? Washing machine now trundling away quite nicely.

breatheslowly · 28/08/2010 17:17

No - did have a cleaner who did and it felt good. I think the cleaner left as we were too slummy.

How do you fold a fitted sheet properly?

trumpton · 28/08/2010 17:25

Breathes It does get easier the more you do it.
I dont iron apart from business shirts when DH is too busy to do his own.

pirateparty · 28/08/2010 17:29

No. And hardly iron anything else either. I'm so glad to hear I'm not the only one.

Would love someone else to do it for me though!

hmmSleep · 28/08/2010 18:19

Trumpton, I love the way she say's it's one of the biggest challenges I'm going to face in lfe Grin, how lovely her life must be! Will try it though.

MrsJessRabinovitch, so glad I'm not the only one!

hmmSleep · 28/08/2010 18:20

Or perhaps that should read - how dull her life must be.

SummerRain · 28/08/2010 18:24

I only bought an ironing board last month as we had an event that the boys were wearing suits to and i felt the need to neaten them up a bit Grin

Now that i have it i do iron the odd thing (t-shirts with embroidered motifs or dd's skirts for example) but still just fold the vast majority.

99% of clothes you can't tell once they've ben on for 5 mins as body heat smooths tham out.

So in answer to you question, no i would never in a million years iron bedlinen! (not least because we only have one set and it's difficult enough to get it washed, dried and back on the bed in one day without adding ironing to that)

breatheslowly · 28/08/2010 18:24

That's impressive, I actually didn't think that was possible. Thanks Trumpton.

TheNextMrsDepp · 28/08/2010 18:28

Ooh Trumpton, thanks for the clip. How did I get to this ripe old age and not know this technique?

(I notice one of the suggested clips shown on the RHS of the screen is "how to fold a thong". FFS!)

BTW I am another iron-dodger. I have an iron somewhere, and it comes out at weddings etc. to do dh's posh shirt, but that's about it. I have so many more hours in my day to......go on MN.Blush

Bonsoir · 28/08/2010 18:30

I dry cotton sheets/pillow cases flat, after a quick tumble to get the creases out.

I also have linen sheets that are not meant to be ironed.

ThatDamnDog · 28/08/2010 18:31

OMG life is WAY too short to iron bedlinen.

IMO those who have to iron are just slatterns who didn't take stuff out of the drier in time Grin

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 28/08/2010 18:32

In answer to thread title alone: No.

In answer to question in OP: HECK no.

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 28/08/2010 18:37

Next time your mother pops round, leave a display of interesting sex toys laid out on your bed. It may break her of her habit of popping into your bedroom whenever she passes, and if not at least she probably won't comment on your sheets.

Scuttlebutter · 28/08/2010 18:53

Love the professor's answer!! I don't iron fitted sheets, but do iron flat sheet, pillow cases and duvet covers. Ironed bed linen is a sensual pleasure. Anyone who irons knickers (!!) or towels probably needs to have some of the Professor's toys for half an hour. Grin

Curlybrunette · 28/08/2010 21:55

Hell no!!!

I don't iron anything that isn't stricly necessary.

I totally dont get why you'd iron underwear. Or socks. My auntie irons everything. Bedding, towels, pants, socks. The lot. Infact once I rang her and asked if she was busy, her answer: "no not really, I was just dusting my coathangers" WTFFFFFFFF?

Too much time on her hands...

lollymad · 28/08/2010 22:04

Not really. Pillowcases I do, but I've just realised how daft that is when I don't iron the duvet cover that is about 10 times bigger!
Huge lightbulb moment - won't be doing that again - thanks all for showing me the error of my ways! Grin

prizeelliott · 28/08/2010 23:39

Oh Lord....thank god others are like me...cant say have time and will to iron...Do we think this may be a generational thing? My bedroom resembling a Tracy Emming exhibition as we speak. Lets hope my or in fact anyone elses mother never feel the need to see!

hmmSleep · 29/08/2010 09:21

Curlybrunette, dusting coathangers! Confused, I'm going upstairs, will tell dh this is what I'm doing.

Curlybrunette · 29/08/2010 09:31

Oh hmmSleep don't start dusting your coathangers please. Your dh will be so worried about your insanity!!!
