Neither tbh. The first one isn't my taste. The wooden one looks a bit old fashioned. A friend has an table almost identical to the wooden one and the chairs are really uncomfortable.

Yes, you get a numb bum don't you, and I dislike sliding around tidied cushions.

As somebody else said, it depends on the style of your home; is it modern or old fashioned? Is it a modern or country kitchen or dining area?

AlcoholicAntibiotic · 29/06/2026 15:21

I don’t like either of them (particularly the chairs). I’d be looking for something completely different - maybe wooden but not such an old-fashioned style.

Daisymail · 29/06/2026 15:23

The wood one

FizzyPopLove · 29/06/2026 15:24

Wood. The other is so naff

SwedishEdith · 29/06/2026 15:26

The wooden one, obviously. Classic design.

Those grey velvet chairs are hideous. There's usually some sort of ring pull on the back of them. So WAG.

MajorProcrastination · 29/06/2026 15:39

The wood. It looks solid and warm and homey. It looks like a dining table where I'd eat something hearty and delicious or where I could do crafts or bake with my kids. The grey one looks like it's from one of the rightmove houses that suck the soul from my body with their sparkly colourless decor.

Also, imagine a kid (or adult!) spilling chilli or spag bol or a curry on the grey chairs - nightmare. Quick wipe on the wooden ones.

I don't want or need to sit on an upholstered chair for my meals. It's not a sofa.

DarkchocolateAndtea · 29/06/2026 15:57

People are lacking a bit of imagination here. The first choice looks a bit clinical in the picture because it's completely bare, but it's so easy to mix comfort and colour. We also don't know the OP's budget, or the colour availability of that option. My sister has a similar table and chairs, and she changed the vibe completely by styling it with a gorgeous, bright wildflower painting on the wall and colourful table mats and runner, and rug underneath. It works brilliantly for breaking up the grey and warming the room right up., and matchs the vibe lf her place. Plus, the sofa feel is supportive yet super comfy for all of the family time they spend there(wooden chairs are miserable to sit on and give you a numb bum!), and a quick light-sponge takes care of any kids spills instantly. They don't have toddlers.

Wood without a doubt. The first one is very tacky

MiddleAgedDread · 29/06/2026 16:00

Wood

LoafofSellotape · 29/06/2026 16:02

I'd sand down the wooden one.

TheEasterBunny3 · 29/06/2026 16:09

The wood table but get some new chairs - those ones in the photo are awful!

OutOfApricots · 29/06/2026 16:37

Wood. The other one will date horribly.

MrsKeats · 29/06/2026 16:50

Neither for me.

sillyrubberduck · 29/06/2026 21:33

Wooden . The other one is awful

MeetMeOnTheCorner · 01/07/2026 18:46

@OutOfApricotsThe wood one is very dated too!

MadisonAvenue · 01/07/2026 18:51

If I had to choose one of these it’d be the wooden one, but it needs different chairs.

WonderingWanda · 01/07/2026 18:53

The legs on the marble one are vile. The pine one is quite a dated style. Neither is good to be honest.

RightnowNo · 03/07/2026 10:54

Neither
Grey is tacky
Wood looks old and dirty
Those chairs are so hard and uncomfortable

mondaytosunday · 03/07/2026 11:04

Well I absolutely hate the grey one, but the wood one seems so ubiquitous (especially with those, frankly uncomfortable, chairs). But the styles are so different it is hard to imagine it’s just a table you are deciding on instead of a complete redesign of the room. Unless this is a purely taste question rather than something you are actually considering? Why haven’t you come back?
