I don't like either sorry. Both are very old fashioned.

MeetMeOnTheCorner · 29/06/2026 10:03

Upholstered dining chairs can be comfortable and much nicer to sit in than those wooden ones! But there’s better out there! Plus there’s far better tables than either of those. Farmhouse tables look ok in cottages, virtually nowhere else.

wishingonastar101 · 29/06/2026 10:03

wood 100%

shockthemonkey · 29/06/2026 10:07

On all fronts the wooden one.

One thing I’ve come to see as important is the depth (or width, if you prefer) of the table. It’s important if you like to bring serving platters to the table, as if the table is narrow you’ve nowhere to put them without displacing a place setting!

GreatThingsAwait · 29/06/2026 10:16

I really don’t like the marble one. The wood one is ok but it’s quite an old fashioned design. It would suit some style of houses though.

Theyreeatingthedogs · 29/06/2026 11:04

Wooden one. I hate those bling legs on the other.

Pootles34 · 29/06/2026 11:06

Wood one but it looks like it needs a bit of love.

Pootles34 · 29/06/2026 11:07

ps I DO NOT mean paint it! I mean maybe sand it back, treat it with some oil, lovely seat pads etc.

VictoriaEra · 29/06/2026 11:54

Like the marble table but really dislike grey chairs. Never bought into the fashion for grey interiors. Wooden ones looks a bit worn. Are they your only choices.

fiorentina · 29/06/2026 12:00

The wooden one. However I’d say it depends upon the style of property and the decor.

Marwoodsbigbreak · 29/06/2026 12:14

Wood

KilkennyCats · 29/06/2026 12:17

I’d always choose wood, but I don’t actually like either of those.
The second one looks like very cheap pine.

Ooh, I was thinking I'd want to paint the legs dark blue, if this was me, and keep the top wooden (but well treated). I think that can look really nice, if done well.

Wood one. Hate grey furniture and textured dining chairs

Same. I hate grey, too.

Fashionable pieces of furniture soon go out of fashion, though.

IMO that wooden one is a timeless style.

MeetMeOnTheCorner · 29/06/2026 14:51

@GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER The best designs are always stylish. The Carl Hansen designs are pretty timeless.

MustTryHarderAndHarder · 29/06/2026 14:52

Wooden. It's very similar to what we have in our kitchen diner.

DarkchocolateAndtea · 29/06/2026 14:57

I prefer the marble and padded chairs for comfort. The wooden one reminds me of a cheap Carvery pub that is in need of a serious update. In the 90s we had wooden chairs which dm tied cushions too and I hated them.

I also think you could put a nice rug with some colour under the marble table and team it with colourful table mats/runner etc. I'm not a fan of too plain, and feel the first one has potential with the right accents.

ScottBakula · 29/06/2026 15:03

The wooden one
I have a old wooden dining table and slightly new wooden chairs.
Both are easy to keep clean and warm to the touch.
A marble table will be cold all year round but freezing in the winter so uncomfortable to sit at/ lean on.

8TinyToeBeans · 29/06/2026 15:07

The wood, 100%.

FredaMountfitchet · 29/06/2026 15:08

Wooden one

Icanseeasquirrel · 29/06/2026 15:14

Wooden table. With different chairs. Am amazed anyone would choose the tacky one.
This sort of thing: https://amzn.eu/d/03jhMmWW
Makes a difference if it’s in kitchen or dining room. Definitely not those grey polyester fabric things in a kitchen anyway.

Notellinganyone · 29/06/2026 15:14

Wooden - the other one is hideous.

purplecorkheart · 29/06/2026 15:14

Neither tbh. The first one isn't my taste. The wooden one looks a bit old fashioned. A friend has an table almost identical to the wooden one and the chairs are really uncomfortable.

Oh god, sorry but they're vile, and tacky in their own way. Each to their own I suppose. I would be forever tripping over the splayed out legs too.
