Love it! You've done a great job.

Id cover the setee in a big blanket. Don't over think the colour scheme. Things tend to look more homely and warm when there's not a specific color theme, i find. Just get what you love. And absolutely you need a rug.

I love the blue and with a similar colour scheme we went for mustard yellow

But they’re just going to make the room look cool, and the OP is after ‘warm and cosy’, despite buying a sofa and painting the chimney breast that don’t work to create that impression“

Our tv room has navy and deep sage green throws, cushions and rugs with a wooden floor and shelves. It’s really cosy.

Yes, but what does it have on the walls?

Scoobydoobydoobydoo0987 · 27/09/2024 21:16

I love the blue, it looks very classy& chic. To add warmth, I'd get a big cream throw for the sofa, choose a big fluffy rug ( Dunelm have some great ones) then pick cushion colour to tie in with the rug & blue fire Place. I'm considering getting this paint now 😊

MissSkegness1951 · 27/09/2024 21:24

The blue is too bright for a living room. I don't like dark colours but a deep navy would have looked much better.

Personally I would get rid of it and replace with a green such as this

Then you can accessorise with mustard and terracotta's for a rich and warm palette.

Sorry but the blue is absolutely dreadful.

I have a blue sofa against off white walls, I don't think it looks cool. I think it depends on the shade of blue

The green is much better.

I think it would still be a stark contrast against the white. A sage green would be warmer.

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 27/09/2024 22:59

Ochre yellow

It's definitely sapphire salute and no they didn't mix for me.

We always go for leather sofas because it's easier to clean with dogs and messy children (DH also 😂)
But yes I'm hugely regretting my grey era 😩

We had a leather sofa in the same colour, it was chosen by my husband but I thought that it seemed like a good idea at the time. I could never get colour schemes to work with it, even though I’m normally reasonably good at them - and ours was a huge corner sofa, so it couldn’t even be easily covered with a throw. After 5 years, I felt justified in replacing it, so gave up trying to get it to work, and sold it and bought a green velvet one that looks way better - and the velvet is actually easier to maintain than I expected after previously always having leather sofas with children.

To answer your question though, I think that cushions in this fabric would look good because they would tie the blue and grey together, whilst adding warm colours, as long as the navys aren’t too different.

Well I've gone for jewelcolours so waiting for cushions to be delivered.
We've only just painted the wall so will leave it for the winter and see how we feel. I'm not overly keen but I've committed now. I'm tempted to try dyeing my leather sofa so interested if anyone has attempted that before?

I think you would be better looking for a sofa on FB Market place. You can sometimes find really good second hand cheap ones. It will save you the faff and hassle of attempting to dye it, which could also go wrong and ruin the sofa.

Not sure what you mean by 'straight blue.' On my screen it's showing as a rich, warm blue with some red in it. It's not a cold blue. Every screen varies, but I don't think the blue on the fireplace is the problem. It will look amazing with a bright warm red, orange, coral or a bright warm green. The problem is the cold grey sofa and the brilliant (cold) white wall.

I mean it just looks pure blue. It’s looking really cold with no hint of purple or green on my screen. That’s obviously the issue, in that a lot of us are seeing the same. It doesn’t look to me anything like the colour swatch shown which does look warmer.

IntheVicinity · 28/09/2024 11:34

If you look at some of the images of that paint colour used in living room, OP, people have worked very hard to warm it up with warm coloured furniture.

The yellow-heavy one is gruesome, obviously, but I included it so you can see how hard someone has worked to ‘warm’ the coolness. I think the other two, where someone has counterpointed the wall colour with warm wood, work much better.

In that main picture you can see how much the light and contrast with other items can change the feel of a colour. The chimney breast is working well with the wood and the table and the sideboard. But the yellow doesn't have enough red or black in it so is acting as a complementary colour (in colour theory, complementary means it's highlighting the blueness of the blue but not in a way to tone it down or warm it up.)

RancidRuby · 28/09/2024 11:49

You need a mix of colors/patterns with the cushions to give a more layered look. Don't go for just one solid colour across all the cushions. A good way to start is to pick out a cushion in a pattern you like with a color palette that will work (for example a floral pattern with lots of jewel colours) then mix in other cushions with different patterns but in a similar colour palette and one or two max solid colour cushions thrown into the mix.

RancidRuby · 28/09/2024 11:54

Like this as an example

Yes, don’t do it. I did it years ago, being tight. It looks great when done. But cracks and chips ultimately.

Sd352 · 28/09/2024 15:20

Try adding more layers. A rug, a couple of throw blankets, some old hard copy book on the shelves, training plants with dark or sage green leaves, a round wooden coffee table or stool. In addition to the jewel toned cushions you have ordered. Can you try shopping around your house just to see what could work?

Cherrycupcake24 · 28/09/2024 17:31

@IntheVicinity That first picture is what I was aiming for. Love that
