You can’t have warm a warm room when you have cold blue on the wall and a cold grey sofa.. The room as it is now is all cold.

mondayawoos · 27/09/2024 16:15

Paint the blue green (olive green or forest green, not a cold green). Huge throw or throws on the sofa because both the shiny material and the colour is truly cold.

And a big rug that goes a bit under the sofa too.

A big rug is a great shout. We have exposed floorboards and the room looks and feels cold without the rug. It’s surprising what a difference a rug makes on hard flooring.

What is matchy in my post? I didn’t say the thrown and rug should be green.

If OP wants a warm room, blue is far away from it.

MadKittenWoman · 27/09/2024 17:34

@Pluvia

Of course, purple-blues and green-blues can be warm, but the shade of blue OP has is straight blue which is cold.

I wondered about this post. I think maybe it was supposed to be a reply to my post just before yours, as I was talking about people in house listings putting in matching bright red things to warm up a room (badly).

Yours sounded very nice, btw.

Yes it was to,you.

Kiuyni · 27/09/2024 17:50

I would put a cream sheepskin on the back of the sofa for a start

Oh ok, thanks. 😂 And I agree with your post about trying to brighten things up with matching red things.

hadwebutworldenoughandtime · 27/09/2024 17:56

For me the sofa is everything that is wrong with the room- colour, style, texture. I agree the blue is not a 'warm' colour but I do like it and the wood tones add some warmth. We have an orange and a blue sofa and it feels warm to me. I also agree with adding textures in a throw or cushions. Adding cushions with a small element of the same blue would help to make it look less like 2 different rooms.

Not sure what you mean by 'straight blue.' On my screen it's showing as a rich, warm blue with some red in it. It's not a cold blue. Every screen varies, but I don't think the blue on the fireplace is the problem. It will look amazing with a bright warm red, orange, coral or a bright warm green. The problem is the cold grey sofa and the brilliant (cold) white wall.

Cherrycupcake24 · 27/09/2024 18:35

The colour is sapphire salute by dulux btw. I'm sure I read it was a warm tone somewhere 🤷🏻‍♀️

This one? Your wall doesn’t look anything like it. But that one looks very nice and warmish.

I don’t think so, dulux says it has purple undertones , which is cool in paint.

Agree it doesn’t look anything like the image, but dulux says purple undertones, which is very visible I think in the ops room. It’s all about the light,

Pluvia · 27/09/2024 19:05

It looks warm in the OP's photo: warmer than I would expect that blue to look. It's working well with the wood over the fireplace. Purple undertones doesn't necessarily make something a cool colour. Here's a nice warm purple:

rosyandjam · 27/09/2024 19:06

Your room looks great! I think mustard or a dark pink!

Giggorata · 27/09/2024 19:12

I would go deep aubergine OR zingy orange in cushions, throws and rugs, finding some patterns that also pick up the dark blue and grey.

What colour/s are your curtains?

@Cherrycupcake24

your room blue doesn't look anything like Saphire Salute???

Did they mix the colour for you?
Have you checked the tin??

if you put another coat (or two) on of actual saphire salute or something a little darker.it would help but not be a lot of work (unless it's on other walls out if shot!!)

it's a shame you can't get rid of the sofa & replace it with a fabric one. Anything free/cheap on market place or whatever??. Loads given away.

i personally think throws would help soooo much, BUT I couldn't cope with having to put them back every time I stood up on that slippery sofa!!

I have some large white fluffy cushions that make it look much more cosy!

Frowningprovidence · 27/09/2024 19:20

Maybe take another photo in the evening light or artificial light so we can all have another go.

Cherrycupcake24 · 27/09/2024 19:30

It's definitely sapphire salute and no they didn't mix for me.

We always go for leather sofas because it's easier to clean with dogs and messy children (DH also 😂)
But yes I'm hugely regretting my grey era 😩

I’d go quite bold with that - mustard yellow. Can you find a giant throw that will cover the sofa, or those clingy sofa covers?

I’d do that. Mustard yellow. I saw some on Next website recently.

TheNuthatch · 27/09/2024 19:34

I would buy some black and white cushions, in a warm textured fabric. Something like berber pattern. Maybe boucle or tassled to soften it. You could then add one or two orange or emerald green too.

Peony15 · 27/09/2024 20:03

Sorry not the best moodboard OP...only colours I had to demonstrate. I'd repaint the fireplace in a very dark green e.g Studio Green by Farrow and Ball instead of blue, maybe add some more real plants on shelf , couple of trailing ones ( ivy /string of pearls ), the bigger the pot the better.
Cushions : get a white/ bright orange / grey /dark type floral pattern ( velvety ) or just fluffy tactile white ones.
Homesense/TK Max / Dunelm are good and not too expensive.
You could also maybe store some of the fire wood in one or 2 shelves , always looks cosy.
You could go all out and paint the whole room dark, it can look very cosy but not for everybody. The sofa will look maybe better if wall behind
dark too.
I painted a small room ( every wall ) in the previous similar dulux sapphire colour like you have now.
In the day it looks a bit cold but at night it's so different, very cosy, bit like floating in a moonlit sea so get why you chose it.
