I like the multi coloured look, in warm colours. It’s difficult due to the sofa being shiny and grey. But a nice throw and some warm cushions I think it can look better.

the national trust does some great throws at good prices. They are thick and woolly.

I love a bit of navy blue but I think it's the sofa that makes it look too cold. Could you get some covers for it? I agree with others that jewel colours would be nice.

Cornettoninja · 26/09/2024 16:37

A sofa cover like @AzureSheep posted would make a huge difference imho.

Pluvia · 26/09/2024 16:46

Oooh, that grey sofa has quite a major chilling effect combined with the bright white walls, doesn't it? I'd suggest orange, or a deep peachy sort of colour which would work well with the blue but I'm not sure it'll sit happily with the sofa. Maybe coral red?

A better bet might to to buy a throw — anything from ochre through to a warmer red colour colour, even a warm teal — for the sofa and then accessorise with some bright cushions. A rug would help, too, as would a couple of pops of warm colour on the shelves: a piece of coloured glassware, an orange or sunny yellow pot.

Some colours that we think of as warm are actually blue-toned, which will make them look cold. Terracotta, which everyone thinks is warm, is often full of blue tones: choose a really red-orange shade of terracotta if that's what you want. Ditto bronzy shades and most purples.

Those are going to look smart but cold. They coordinate with the OP's existing colours but they won't warm the look up.

Alicana · 26/09/2024 16:50

I don’t think you can make it look warm with the cool wall and sofa. If you don’t want to change it, just embrace the cool colours. I would get some throws to cover up the sofa.

Gold

You're going to hate me, but on my screen that burgundy colour looks as if it's got a lot of blue and black in it and I think that could end up looking a bit flat and cold in OP's room.

This one (Ibiza Red) is an example of a warmer, brighter red which has a lot more yellow in the mix — and yellow makes it warmer. Probably a bit too bright.

For gods sake don't go with yellow or mustard- it smacks of ikea!

I agree the burgundy is also cold toned. The op needs something with yellow undertones. Which is hard I think for some folks to see.

i recently bought bathroom floor tiles, got them home and realised in the duller non show room light they had a grey undertone. And had to take them back. My husband was baffled when I tried to explain they had to have yellow undertones, like the first ones we looked at as to him. They were neither grey or yellow so what was I on about.

Now they are down he can see it. As the ones with the yellow undertone are very warm looking. Grey undertones make things look cold. However it doesn’t mean they are grey or yellow, far from it. As it’s the undertone we are talking about.

for example, you can see this grey paint colour has a warm undertone , and if you compare it to the ops sofa, you can see that is a cold blue undertone.

you can also see these two blues, also have warm undertones, compared to the cold one the op used,

Have you ever considered a fabric sofa?

Thistooshallpass. · 26/09/2024 18:07

I'd get a big cream throw to cover the sofa and then add navy , teal and emerald cushions .

Oh crap! I picked the blue thinking it was a warming colour 😩😩😩

Blue is a cool colour!

trickyex · 26/09/2024 18:40

I would deffo get a sofa cover in a soft colour as the gey is not welcoming.
The blue with the white walls is very high contrast, again not welcoming.
Perhaps easiest to change the blue back to white and then you have a blank canvas.
The olive green sofa cover looked good and could be paired with all sorts of colours.
I would also add a jute rug for cosiness and a bit of texture. The Ikea Lohals is good and not too pricey (buy the biggest size you can fit in the room).
Table lamps with soft coloured shades and some blankets on the sofa will all help too.

Frowningprovidence · 26/09/2024 18:57

I just bought a stretch fabric sofa cover from amazon and I am surprised how well it fitted actually so that might be an option.

The blue and white are giving me a Greek village vibe so I am saying a terracotta with some olive bits, or bougainvillea pink and some olive bits.

CharliesAngles · 26/09/2024 19:47

Bright fuchsia pink and tangerine - go bold!

ifIwerenotanandroid · 26/09/2024 19:51

I liked @Autumnlife 's Dunelm cushion so I had a look there & found these which might help. The blue version picks up your grey & blue, & adds in gold & turquoise. Or the neutral one would pick up the grey of the sofa & the warmer colour of the wooden shelves. Then you could add other cushions in those colours, whichever version you chose.

I agree that putting a throw over the sofa would soften the look of the room - but is the sofa too shiny? Would a throw slide about?

I’d go for orange

BippityBopper · 26/09/2024 19:53

I love the wall colour. The sofa though, it just completely clashes imo and looks very out of place with the rest of the room. Could you not get sofa covers? Or lookout for a cheap sofa on FB marketplace?

Blue and ochre
