Dark blue for living room

Can anyone suggest some dark blues for my living room that are from Dulux, Valspar, Johnstone's or Farrow & Ball (these are the only brands I have locally available to me!)

I've tested Hague Blue and Sapphire Salute but HB is too dark and SS is too bright! I need something in between Grin

Loving the blues. My bedroom is Hague blue and I love it. It’s my favourite room now. I was concerned it would be too dark, but i am pleased with it. It’s so cosy.
I’m now thinking of painting the dining room a dark shade too!

Of the three I'd go Sapphire Salute as the most true blue. It looks much deeper on your walls than it did on mine!

(Not much help to you I know, but if anyone is looking for a navy, Crown's Midnight Blue is really true)

I like the Sapphire Salute in your photo as well! It is brighter but not in a garish way, in the way it is a clearer blue. Embrace the blue! I really like the finish you get with dulux vinyl matt paints as well and find them easy to use.

I've just painted my lounge in Dulux Inkwell and love it, it's a definite blue - usually I go for very light unadventurous colours but am so pleased I did this

Another vote for Denim Drift. I've done my bedroom in it.

We have StiffKey in our north-facing living room - beforehand we had a warmish white, the change in feel was dramatic - so much cosier and pulled together, I think you need lots of contrast with it to lift it and add interest.

I used an online brand called Lick in our bedroom. You can get stick on samples which are amazingly true to colour, I stuck one on top of a painted wall and couldn't see it.

They have a sample pack of dark blue testers. I did a wall in our bedroom in Blue 06 which I love and was some of the best coverage paint I have ever used.

I have Sapphire Salute in my sons playroom. It is a really beautiful colour.

We have little green juniper ash in the study, and I absolutely love it. It is our first foray into a darker colour. We used f@b Joa’s white on other walls in the study as it is north facing and has to be bright enough to work long hours in, but I love the colour.

Just to add, I chose juniper ash over denim drift. Really liked both but there was more depth (for me) on the juniper ash, more of an interesting colour.

Another vote for Breton Blue by Dulux. Such a gorgeous colour.

Loving that Dark Harbour colour a PP suggested..beautiful.

We're having a downstairs toilet knock through happening next week and looking for colour inspiration. Have picked out some wallpaper samples I like from house of Hackney and now looking for the perfect dramatic shade for the smallest room in the house!

Going to recommend a different brand - Lick, specifically Blue 06. We almost went for Stiffkey but this looked slightly better in our room

I've had a dark blue dining room/library for 23 years now and F&B Scotch Blue is lovely as it has a slightly purple feel. Before that I had F&B Railings.

eglantine7 · 16/02/2022 15:22

We have Stiffkey Blue. It has a lovely chalky quality to it. It's a mellow rather than rich blue and it is in a North facing room.

We have Stiffkey blue in our dining room. It is a lovely colour. Not grey at all.
