Dark blue for living room

Can anyone suggest some dark blues for my living room that are from Dulux, Valspar, Johnstone's or Farrow & Ball (these are the only brands I have locally available to me!)

I've tested Hague Blue and Sapphire Salute but HB is too dark and SS is too bright! I need something in between Grin

This is is mine. The previous owners choice, but I like it enough to leave as it is for now.

It's Antibes from B&Q's own range, which seems to get good reviews. (I didn't know if you were naming only branded paints available from somewhere like that)

You would be catching the tail end of a trend which has been running for years and is now growing tired

Heaven forbid someone paints a room a colour that isn't "on trend"! I've yet to see a definitive answer about what is acceptable without the obligatory "dated" slur on Mumsnet.

I've a friend who has a really dark living room, lots of soft furnishings, candles etc and dark jewel tones. It's a lovely place to sit, especially in the evening.

I have Dulux Sapphire Splendour in my living room, it’s a nice dark navy. I did test out Sapphire Salute too and it was a bit bright for what I wanted which was to blend in with a specific wallpaper.

LemonViolet · 13/02/2022 20:10

Don’t think OP asked what’s peoples opinions of dark blue rooms did she? WTF is it with unsolicited slagging off of people’s choices when they have asked a specific question.

Thank you, that looks like the sort of colour in after! I have a B&Q near me so will go get a tester Smile

Oh I'm not bothered about trends or what is classed as 'dated' Smile I'm going with what I like, then hopefully I'll never get tired of it!

I totally agree @MrsTophamHat!

Why does it matter if it’s not “on trend”? Why on EARTH does it even matter? Imagine being that invested in somebody else’s decor 😆.

I have sapphire salute, it's definitely not navy but it looks really good.

Thanks, just googled it and it may be a bit dark, but I'll have a look in store and see how it fares against other shades Smile

It's a fad and will be over soon.

MummyMe87 · 13/02/2022 20:19

We have stuff key blue - farrow and ball. It’s really nice, would recommend

Thanks, that may work! Looks lighter than Hague Blue Grin

DC1 and DC3 have stiffkey blue in their bedrooms. It's a lovely colour.

WindUpBird · 13/02/2022 20:46

@Soffit - sorry to hijack the thread slightly…which colours are not ‘on the way out’?
Like the OP I’ve been thinking of a blue, but probs Hague blue, for the living room…but I am always late to a trend so would love to know which colours are on the way in and which would go with yellow velvet sofa…
(I still think I might just go with the HB as I think it’ll work really well in the room & with the sofa…)

EmmaStone · 13/02/2022 20:48

I've just tested Stiffkey and Hague Blue in DS' room, much prefer Stiffkey (and have a friend who has it in their kitchen, and it looks fantastic). I am having a little wobble about his room being too dark though...

WinterCarlisle · 13/02/2022 20:51

Have you looked at Dulux Denim Drift? It’s lovely (imho!)

StooriMidori · 13/02/2022 21:03

We've just done ours with a Tikkurila paint called Nocturne. I bloody love it. Here it is now against a very pale grey on the other wall.

Another vote for Stiffkey Blue, absolutely love it.

StooriMidori · 13/02/2022 21:16

That's came off a slightly different colour due to the dark light. Here's a pic taken in the day. It's like a deep dusky navy with a very subtle hint of indigo (sound like Lawrence Llewelyn Bowen there! 🤣)

Another vote for Dulux Denim Drift ( just painted the ensuite and main wall in our bedroom today )

MummyMe87 · 13/02/2022 21:31

Yes stiffkey I found a bit nicer than Hague blue. Was a much nicer shade

BangingOn · 13/02/2022 21:32

Can you get Benjamin Moore? Dark Harbour is incredible.

AAAAAGHH · 13/02/2022 22:05

I've just bought Dulux Denim Drift to paint my bedroom so it's nice to see others on here like it too.

NotHagueBlue · 13/02/2022 22:10

Thanks for all your recommendations Smile I think Stiffkey might be the one but will try some others too! Denim Drift might be a bit light but I'll check it out thanks! It's a big room in a period house so I want to go dark, but not too dark 😆
