Dark blue for living room

Can anyone suggest some dark blues for my living room that are from Dulux, Valspar, Johnstone's or Farrow & Ball (these are the only brands I have locally available to me!)

I've tested Hague Blue and Sapphire Salute but HB is too dark and SS is too bright! I need something in between Grin

We've got valspar tuxedo blue in our living room and I love it. It's got a richness that makes the room feel warm on a gloomy day and has a brightness when it's sunny.

Denim drift is lovely

Shortofspace · 13/02/2022 22:15

I keep waiting for posters to not just criticise someone else's choice but to say what colour is the "right" one to use.
Though presumably if you say "green" and the OP doesn't like green and does like blue, she won't care if green is the fashionable one?

That may be a contender thank you!

I'm not keen on green actually 😆

F&B sloe blue.

RainbowMum11 · 13/02/2022 23:43

Why do things have to be 'on trend'? Why can't people choose decor they actually like and want to live with?!!

Imabouttoexplode · 13/02/2022 23:54

F and B Downpipe. I'll take a pic tomorrow.

NotHagueBlue · 13/02/2022 23:58

@BangingOn

Can you get Benjamin Moore? Dark Harbour is incredible.
It does look lovely but a bit too green for me Smile

We have little greene Dock blue in our loo - it’s a really dark inky blue - I love it but it is dark but beautifully rich

DavetheCat2001 · 14/02/2022 11:55

My sons room is Deep Space Blue by Little Greene, and we have Stiffkey in our hallway.

I absolutely love these colours. I want to paint my (Timeless) living room walls that sort of colour but it's not a big room and I'm not sure the best way to do it without making it look smaller.

And I don't give two shits what's on trend. Why would anyone unless they were having Hello magazine coming in?

DavetheCat2001 · 14/02/2022 12:19

@Rockbird my advice with smaller rooms and darker colours is to embrace the cozyness!

I personally don't think you make a room look bigger by painting it in lighter colours. It just looks like a smaller room painted white.

Had the same reservations when we did our hallway as it is narrow and dark. It would have still looked narrow and dark in a light colour, but I think the darkee shade gives it a more dramatic appearance.

I am loving all these blues! @StooriMidori that is a beautiful shade! I hope you love it Smile

@DavetheCat2001 that looks utterly fabulous! I am very envious of your hall!

We used sapphire splendour and it was lovely (old house though, so no pics).

We have Valspar Night Swim but it might be a bit green for you. I would advise going mad with tester pots and leave up a good while as some of my prefered choices looked terrible in our room. F&B Inchyra Blue looked dark grey for instance...

DialsMavis · 14/02/2022 14:41

Totally agree @DavetheCat2001. My lounge diner isnt small but it is somehow dramatic and cosy now, We have had it for about 2 years and love it and won't be changing it for a good while.

ArtemisDarling · 14/02/2022 14:42

I am loving these blues.

We have a very dark blue in our dining room. But I cannot recall what colour it is. We have a white ceiling, white cornicing and a large chandelier. It looks magical at night.

LemonViolet · 14/02/2022 15:03

I’m looking for a Tardis blue if anyone has a recommendation for that! We have a cupboard in the hallway we call “the Tardis” and thought it might be cute if I paint it to match Grin

dun1urkin · 14/02/2022 15:12

Try Dulux Breton Blue. You can order a sample off the Dulux website and if you like it, get it mixed. It’s darker than Demin Drift, and less green than Hague Blue

2catsand2kids · 15/02/2022 08:10

Not a brand you suggested but you can order online, we’ve just printed our bedroom in little greene Hicks Blue, I absolutely love it.

That looks very similar to stiffkey blue actually! That might work Smile

So the left is Stiffkey Blue, middle is Hague Blue, right is Sapphire Salute.

I prefer Stiffkey but think it's maybe a bit too grey looking!
