i would say
big modern layouts

OP posts:
excelledyourself · 27/06/2021 15:47

At least three good sized bedrooms
a second bathroom/shower room
Good storage space
Open plan kitchen/diner/family room
A beautiful, private garden with a pond and huge trees
A stained glass window or two
Driveway

I live in a piddly little top floor flat. Can you tell? Grin

ImbarbaraB · 27/06/2021 17:12

Big trees in the garden definitely

MsAnnFrope · 27/06/2021 17:24

This thread has made me realise how lucky we are with our house!
But if we are taking unattainable I’d like to have a period house with a sea view. No chance of affording that though I can dream

Chocolatier9a · 27/06/2021 17:25

Huge gardens. The sort measured in acres.

Green fingers. Why can’t I grow six foot tall delphiniums like the ones in the garden I pass on the way to work? And how come no peony has ever flowered for me?

redheadonascooter · 27/06/2021 18:04

No close neighbours!
Detached (see above)
Large private garden (see above)

Aside from that I'd love a huge kitchen and a utility room.

I generally love my house. But I'd like to pick it up, chop off next door (semi) and plonk it in the middle of a big field in the countryside (then extend it just a bit so I can have my massive kitchen and utility!). I'd even keep my current garden if we could just move it all elsewhere away from people.

If we're talking dream houses, I'd love space for an indoor pool, gym room and walk in wardrobes but that's lottery win stuff Grin

Mumof3girlsandaboy · 27/06/2021 18:21

Swimming pool

Sawyersfishbiscuits · 27/06/2021 18:26

A beautiful garden with a stream and an orchard.

Thegreymethod · 27/06/2021 18:37

A big hallway and landing, everyone is always surprised when they come in my house because it feels bigger than it looks from the outside, the rooms are a good size but because of that we have a very thin hallway and almost non existent landing and I'm always jealous when people have big spaces there.

ItsSnowJokes · 27/06/2021 18:48

A bigger garden.
A bigger kitchen so I can have a tumble dryer and a dishwasher!
A bigger master bedroom as ours is tiny.

The whole house is tiny other than the lounge, but it's the only 3 bed we could afford with a garden. Beggers can't be choosers and all that!

lazylinguist · 27/06/2021 18:55

High quality real wood flooring. Minimalist interiors. Big bathrooms with freestanding baths. Utility rooms.

H1Drangea · 27/06/2021 18:58

Mains gas
Mains drainage
Nice hallway
Utility room
Kitchen which is a family room so I’m not cooking on my own

I have a massive ( 10 acres of fields ) garden , I want a manageable size garden , though I have to say that the craze for rewilding outdoor spaces has been a godsend ✅
I do love my wildflower patch 💐

BitsAndBaubles · 27/06/2021 19:03

A walk in larder

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 27/06/2021 19:20

@Morelikethat

Wooden floors.

DH Doesn’t want them And anyway it would be very difficult here as we have concrete floors underneath the carpet and the ceilings are very low would need to have the concrete drilled out first!

Wooden floors over a concrete floor won't increase it by much, perhaps only slightly more the a carpet.
Cowbells · 27/06/2021 19:21

Walled gardens make me giddy with envy.
Also map rooms and libraries.
I need to spend less time looking around NT properties

delilahbucket · 27/06/2021 19:28

Utility room
Private garden
Not overlooking a through road (see the garden issue)
Detached

To be fair, we can't move the road but we are working on making the garden more private. Reading through other lists has made me realise how lucky we are and the compromises we made are minor.

Babygotblueyes · 27/06/2021 19:29

Beautiful views

Louiselady500 · 27/06/2021 20:06

We bought our current house for many reasons but PEACE & QUIET was top of the list. I would struggle to live somewhere with road noise again.

JaninaDuszejko · 27/06/2021 20:06

I love our house but if we are talking dream houses then:
Original parquet flooring
Detached (we looked at some detached houses but this house had the best layout)
5 bedrooms (3DC and a lovely MIL who stay for weeks at a time).

We are very fortunate live in the north and already have a utility room, multiple bathrooms, two sitting room, a big modern kitchen diner, location.

burritofan · 27/06/2021 20:12

Old brick garden walls instead of fences
Yes! Big beautiful gardens with brick walls and greenhouses and subdivided into lovely little areas. Trees.
Period features, ideally the sort of thing with lots of costly upkeep – my Rightmove saved list is filled with gables and curlicues and tile-fronted cottages covered in roses and fripperies
Worn, old parquet flooring and ancient stone kitchen floors with dips from years of foot traffic
Really nice windows
Good light
The sea

StCharlotte · 27/06/2021 20:25

Off road parking. I'm currently on a caravan holiday and I'm loving turning into our two car "drive" Grin

StCharlotte · 27/06/2021 20:30

You might need to rethink that. We had it. Lovely MIL tripped and fell on it which resulted in broken ribs, a Christmas hospital stay, recurring DVTs and she's never been the same since. It was 15 years ago and we still feel bad.

BeenAsFarAsMercyAndGrand · 27/06/2021 20:37

@BasiliskStare

For me it is location - you can usually make most other things work . I have looked at houses which are lovely and beautiful but I looked outside and think - OK - what do I do now. So - explains why living in small house. Grin
100% agree. You can make the smallest, most inconveniently laid out house work for you and feel homely, but if the location has nothing to offer even a mansion would be shit.
OhBiscuits · 27/06/2021 20:37

Those beautiful coloured tiles in Victorian/Edwardian hallways and porch areas

Original fireplaces

Art Deco features, like those sweeping curved windows

Picture rails and a ceiling rose

Basically I just love older properties! We currently have an extended 1960s semi which has so much space and a massive garden so perfect for us with two young DC - lots of Victorian terraces near us are beautiful and were within our budget but only have a tiny back yard which wasn’t any good for the DC (and we hope to get a dog in the future so them garden would be nice for that too)

BeenAsFarAsMercyAndGrand · 27/06/2021 20:38

Old brick garden walls instead of fences

The end of our garden has a dry stone wall. I love it.

cushioncovers · 27/06/2021 20:40
