Struggling to find the perfect green paint

Would love people to share pics of their green rooms. I am trying to find a lovely soft sage green that’s not too dark. I have tried paints called ‘sage’ from nearly every brand and they’re all too dark or look a bit too rich so I need to branch out.

Everything seems to come out too dark in my house. I saw pics online of Dulux Tranquil Dawn and it looks like a gorgeous light green-grey, tested it on my wall and it’s practically dark blue! So ridiculous! Have this issue with nearly every paint I test, always looks ten shades darker in my house yet everyone else’s pictures look great.

I'm going to shamelessly hop onto this thread OP as I'm currently looking for exactly the same thing and seem to be having the same experience as you, even down to Tranquil Dawn being too blue! 😁

It's really hard getting the right sage - lots of good links on this thread though.

Bettie2192 · 12/07/2020 11:18

@slinkysaluki tried it, very nice colour but too dark for what I’m looking for

@MissFitton feel free to hop on and take all the tips these lovely ladies have been sharing with me :)
I know right, what is up with tranquil dawn 😂 feel like I’ll never get over it lol

Another one here who's spent £20 on Dulux testers! And want to love Tranquil Dawn but it just looks a dull grey. I think I'm settled on Willow Tree now but still not 100% convinced...

Bettie2192 · 12/07/2020 22:02

@CamomileTease you are literally me right now 😂 yep willow tree still winning but I’ve got about 5 farrow and ball testers on the way to compete

We've just used farrow and ball 'mizzle' beautiful sage colour. Very pleased

Bettie2192 · 12/07/2020 23:13

@Thekindyoufindinasecondhand I have a tester pot of mizzle coming and I’m excited to try it

What direction does the room face? I've had to go for a very pale yellowy green in my east facing utility room. Everything else was blue, regardless of how pale it was.

We used willow one ds’ bedroom. I love the colour, it’s exactly what I wanted.
Not the best photo sorry and the lighting is rubbish but I really do love the colour.

B and Q Limerick is nice

Bettie2192 · 14/07/2020 18:16

@slinkysaluki I have a sample of vert de terre on the way, and I did actually look at limerick in b&q but they didn’t have any testers left

slinkysaluki · 14/07/2020 20:30

They are both very similar i tjink x

Bettie2192 · 15/07/2020 15:43

I have done my farrow and ball samples and I think Mizzle might be a winner! It is many a teeny bit darker then I’d have liked but I love the tone. And it doesn’t look blue either! I think it’ll look lighter once the whole room is painted.

We have crown mellow sage in our kitchen, it’s lovely and not too dark

MissFitton · 16/07/2020 17:38

Ooh @Bettie2192 (I realise I've gone a bit Frank Spencer there) 'Mizzle but a bit darker than anticipated' sounds very promising. Especially as Tranquil Dawn was blue to you too. Grin

I've lost the ability to discern between shades of green so I'm getting to the point where I'm going to just buy something blindly.

Why is choosing a paint colour so hard?

user135135 · 16/07/2020 17:51

Very light green colours are so difficult to find, been looking for about a year now (was waiting for my toddler to stop constantly getting the walls dirty before actually painting it) . Dulux Nordic Spa looks lovely though

Analcolico · 16/07/2020 17:54

F&B Old White looks sage green in my sitting room. I love it.

Analcolico · 16/07/2020 17:55

Was about to mention F&B VDT too (I have it in a kitchen).

Bettie2192 · 16/07/2020 17:58

@MissFitton I think we are definitely going to go with Mizzle, it looks like how I expect tranquil dawn to look but a bit grey-er, it’s very chic for a nursery lol but that’s what I’m after. Once I’ve bought the paint and painted more I’ll post a pic.
I know after the F&B samples came I was like I don’t care if none of them are right, I’m picking one because I’m fed up 😂

Bettie2192 · 16/07/2020 18:00

@Analcolico that was my second favourite but it was a bit too much of a rich green for what I was imagining for the room, lovely colour though.
