Struggling to find the perfect green paint

Would love people to share pics of their green rooms. I am trying to find a lovely soft sage green that’s not too dark. I have tried paints called ‘sage’ from nearly every brand and they’re all too dark or look a bit too rich so I need to branch out.

Everything seems to come out too dark in my house. I saw pics online of Dulux Tranquil Dawn and it looks like a gorgeous light green-grey, tested it on my wall and it’s practically dark blue! So ridiculous! Have this issue with nearly every paint I test, always looks ten shades darker in my house yet everyone else’s pictures look great.

I suggest looking at Valspar.

The way a lot of paint companies group their paints is as reds/blues/greens.Valspar does as well but under creams & greys, they tend to have a much wider range/easy to see undertones.

As a starting point, if I have a south facing room that can take cooler tones without feeling cold, I’d look under their greys for a green tone. Conversely if I had a north facing room needing warm undertones, I’d look for a green within the creams. You could also look for a green under their red/orange or pink sections for a warm green but I think if you’re looking for something not too dark , green undertone neutrals are a good first step.

Fired Earth China Clay is lovely. That's in our nursery. It doesn't look strong green on the pot more beige/brown but it's the perfect soft green when it goes on.

I see you've had lots of good suggestions. But I just thought I'd chip in on Dulux tranquil dawn. I have a newly painted room in it. When it was wet it seemed dark, and with one coat it maybe you could convince yourself there was a blue edge to it. Two coats dried it is lovely, I couldn't convince myself there was any blue at all if I tried. It's a very soft and pale sage green in all lights, softened by a hint of grey rather than white if that makes sense and looks fresh and unobtrusive.
I hope you find what you're looking for!

This is the first time in my life I've ever jumped in without a long period of pondering samples which is why I thought it served me right when it was nothing like the colour on the tin. It looks very like Dulux Willow Tree on my monitor

I have Tranquil Dawn in the bedroom and Muted Sage in the kitchen. Tranquil Dawn isn't what you want if you want a sage colour. It's mint and a grey green as it changes colour in the light. I've never seen a blue colour to it.

I really like Overtly Olive as well.

Try Silver Sage or Trailing Plant from Crown's Elle Decoration range. We went for the latter - which is the darker of the two - and it's gorgeous.

Muted Sage in the kitchen.

Try Farrow and Ball pale powder. It's a gorgeous shade

Not to confuse you even more, but order yourself some Little Greene colour cards. They have some colours in four shades of intensity. Tracery II is a good pale soft green much loved for kitchen units 5 years ago if you get my drift.

Bettie2192 · 10/07/2020 14:26

@fannyanney that colour looks lovely!

I’ve ordered a load of dulux samples so if I hate all of them I’ll get down to b&q and have a look at Valspar and farrow & ball 😂 thanks everyone for all the suggestions

@Bumpyroads yours looks great! I’ll have to take a picture of what it looks like on my wall tomorrow because it is honestly pure blue and I don’t understand it 😆

We've got this in our hallway, it's a gorgeous soft green - and it goes with a striped duck egg and green carpet. Zoffany paints are amazing, wears really well and wipes clean. We've got it in every room now!

PurBal · 11/07/2020 21:44

Dulux Tranquil Dawn

Bettie2192 · 11/07/2020 21:46

@PenelopePitstop49 that’s a gorgeous colour. I have some farrow & ball samples on the way, if none of them make the cut then I’ll have to branch out into some other brands like that one.

Argh, sorry could only see half your post and stupidly posted. It's not at all blue on our north facing walls.

PenelopePitstop49 · 11/07/2020 22:03

It was a bit of an ordeal to get the right green to match our carpet, I won't lie. I nearly cried when this match pot arrived and it was the perfect shade.

As I said before we've found the Zoffany shades perfect but another good one is the Little Greene Paint Company. Their Acorn and Acorn mid are both lovely shades.

@PenelopePitstop49 I’ll probably cry when I find the green ive been imagining in my head 😂 thank you for your suggestions I’ll have a look at both of those. Wish I hadn’t bothered spending 20 quid on all those dulux samples now 😤

I've got Valspar Morning Downpour in my lounge, I feel your pain, the amount of tester pots I went through to get the right shade... 😅
