Struggling to find the perfect green paint

Would love people to share pics of their green rooms. I am trying to find a lovely soft sage green that’s not too dark. I have tried paints called ‘sage’ from nearly every brand and they’re all too dark or look a bit too rich so I need to branch out.

Everything seems to come out too dark in my house. I saw pics online of Dulux Tranquil Dawn and it looks like a gorgeous light green-grey, tested it on my wall and it’s practically dark blue! So ridiculous! Have this issue with nearly every paint I test, always looks ten shades darker in my house yet everyone else’s pictures look great.

I’ve used Crown Village Fete which is a lovely soft sage, is part of their period collection: www.crownpaints.co.uk/products/period-collection/matt/village-fete/395

I've got crown box tree in my dining room. My other choice was mellow sage (slightly lighter). I went for the darker one as it's only one wall.

@Allsizes8to14 English sage was my favourite but now I think it’s too dark. And whispering sage is much lighter, almost like pastel-y mint, wouldn’t put it in the sage family! I sound like I’m being super picky, which to be honest I am about my interior decor 😂

@Whyhellodaffodil yes I think it’s meant to be a much lighter colour but in a darker room it brings it down a few shades which makes it much nicer

@Bettie2192 I don’t think you’re being picky...choosing paint is hard! Especially greens and greys in my experience 🙈

Bettie2192 · 09/07/2020 22:25

@Pooky001 I really like village fete but I’m struggling to find any crown tester pots at the moment :(

Have you seen Dulux Heritage Colours (from Decorator Centres)? Green Earth is lovely.

Bettie2192 · 09/07/2020 22:27

@Allsizes8to14 thank you, it is hard! Had about ten colour samples on the wall before I picked the living room colour lol. And it’s the nursery for my first baby so the control freak in me wants it to be perfect.

@shortsaint no not looked at any of those but I will. It’s so hard at the moment to get any testers that aren’t just the popular ranges you get in b&q etc

Tranquil Dawn definately looks different in different lights. IN dds room it goes from looking like very light grey to the softest of sage greens.

NotMeNoNo · 09/07/2020 22:30

Just remember paint looks darker in a patch and lighter on the whole wall. I also second trying a Dulux decorator centre, they have a better choice in good quality paints. I found a favourite colour Heron out of the Professional range, but that's a greenish grey really, I'm just going to have it in every bedroom for the rest of my life now.

Dulux Sophisticated Sage

Nestofvipers · 09/07/2020 22:33

I think dulux heritage silver fern or F&B pale powder might be what you’re looking for. Also agree with @PJsEveryday about dulux dusted moss (from dulux decorator centre), but would pick either the 2nd lightest or the lightest shade.

Ylvamoon · 09/07/2020 22:34

We have just done our hallway in B&Q GoodHome Tea Party, which is more of a pastel green.

CarrieMoonbeams · 09/07/2020 22:35

Another vote for F&B French Grey, it's lovely.

It very much depends on the brightness of the room though. It looks much darker in my hallway than it does in my dining room.

I also have F&B's James White as a contrast, it goes really well as it has a soft greenish tinge.

We had a similar battle recently. We ended up using Crown botanical extract. Looks good.

PickAChew · 09/07/2020 22:40

We have willow tree in ds2's room. It's a very sympathetic shade that goes with loads and works well both when it's bright and dull.

Howmanysleepsnow · 09/07/2020 22:40

Valspar Morning Downpour would be perfect.

bravotango · 09/07/2020 22:40

We've used Soft Grey by Colour Courage which seems sort of yellowy green on our walls, very pale. If you're having issues with the paint looking very blue maybe it's worth trying something with a yellow tinge to it, a bit warmer? Every single grey-ish paint looks blue in our house too, so we have yellowy greens and pinkish greys too (like CC Marsh mellow)

SwedishEdith · 09/07/2020 22:41

F&B Light Blue is, bizarrely, sage green.

Bettie2192 · 09/07/2020 22:53

@NotMeNoNo true, think I need to find a colour I at least like the one of so I’ll still like it even if it looks lighter in the whole room.

Just went on the dulux website and ordered a lot of samples 🙈 never even thought to do that. Thought I’d be stuck with whatever b&q or wilko had in stock lol.

Our nursery was painted dulux crushed aloe, to me it was the perfect green.

Bettie2192 · 09/07/2020 23:01

@bravotango we had similar issues trying to find a nice brown colour for our living room, everything seemed to come out purple so I had to find some browns with more pink/red undertones which did work out in the end.

We have a colour match of F&B Mizzle. Which is a soft greying light sage in a room that doesn't get a lot of daylight. I love it.
