Looking to go for a weekend away with my teen daughter in September. We’ve haven’t been away this summer due to illness. It would be our first holiday just us, without DH. Where would you suggest is a super safe, just pool and hotel, for a long weekend? Hotel not far from airport, nice and safe, relaxing. I’m assuming canaries don’t can be hot to chill by a pool.

Alicante?
Palma?
Faro?

Octavia64 · 30/08/2026 16:45

What sort of temp are you looking for?

canaries are pretty good year round although are very busy in the summer.

all inclusive?

spain is pretty good generally but I don’t usually do all inclusive. Barcelona is good - stuff to do plus beach (more city break than laze by the pool though)

We haven’t been away so just beach/pool hotel. I’m anxious about safety being just us, so somewhere lovely but not too much trouble getting there and back. I was thinking Spain, would just like to have time to sit in the sun.

B&B is fine too. Anything really. Short flight. Just sun! Countries and hotel recommendations would be so helpful. Thank you.

I always recommend Malaga city. Can't go wrong with it, very safe and lots to see, do and eat! DD (and you) will enjoy the great shopping district and the endless tapas around the Cathedral area. Select a hotel with a rooftop pool and make sure it is working in September. Around the centre is best either Cathedral/Calle Larios/Marina.

Quick journey from airport, either bus, train or taxi. Get a taxi it's not far and not expensive.

Or go up the road in the opposite direction to the city to somewhere like Benalmadena. Plenty of hotels/apartments/pools/restaurants and a train in and out of Malaga and to the airport.

Favouritefruits · 30/08/2026 17:03

If it’s just for a short break I wouldn’t go to far, Spain/Portugal or Italy would be a great shout! Porto In Portugal is only a 2 hour 20min flight will have good weather and lots to see!

MenorcaGin · 30/08/2026 17:04

Just came on to say Benalmadena. Nice in October and early November.

TheFairyCaravan · 30/08/2026 17:11

Menorca.

It’s very safe, and as the island is so small the transfers are never very long.

OrchidRosetta · 30/08/2026 17:11

Thank you. Hotels in Benalmadena? Is the airport to fly into Malaga?

Majorca is nice in September

OrchidRosetta · 30/08/2026 17:19

Malaga seems quite pricey.

Croatia?
I've seen flights to Pula for £29 in September. It's very safe there.

bababamama · 30/08/2026 17:44

I was also going to suggest Malaga or down the coast towards Torreblanca and Feungirola.

The train goes straight from the airport to all these places.

Easy 2 hour flight. Good weather and nice beaches.

Feungirola more a touristy destination and Malaga also touristy with a beach but also a city type break which may work as the best of both worlds for you and DD.

TUI blue lagoon Princess in Halkidiki is fantastic, did it as a solo parent with very young child, was very safe

OrchidRosetta · 31/08/2026 11:02

Would it be better value for money to book with a package like Tui or Jet2 or to book flights and accommodation? Still coming up quite pricey for just three nights.

Have a look at Cavtat in Croatia. 20 min from Dubrovnik airport … beautiful, safe, friendly. Crystal clear water and lovely restaurants by the sea.

Kalioko · 31/08/2026 13:44

Cavtat is beautiful, stay in hotel Croatia!

Imenti · 31/08/2026 16:16

Sahara Sunset in Benalmadena or Royal Oasis Club both very nice.

cestlavielife · 31/08/2026 16:18

Ba.com flight and hotel. Basic price includes cabin bag and personal item
Malaga hotels along coast

OrchidRosetta · 31/08/2026 18:54

Tried BA but not the closest airport. Trying to make it as easier as possible for us.

Malaga is generally an expensive place to fly into. I always go onto Skyscanner and put in my dates, airport and then ‘everywhere’. It ranks it by cost and country then you can check flights. We do a mix of booking separately and package defending on where we’re going.
