Looking to go for a weekend away with my teen daughter in September. We’ve haven’t been away this summer due to illness. It would be our first holiday just us, without DH. Where would you suggest is a super safe, just pool and hotel, for a long weekend? Hotel not far from airport, nice and safe, relaxing. I’m assuming canaries don’t can be hot to chill by a pool.

Would it be better value for money to book with a package like Tui or Jet2 or to book flights and accommodation? Still coming up quite pricey for just three nights.

Varies. I agree with PPs that the Costa Del Sol area (Malaga) can be quite dear.

Another option not mentioned would be Mallorca. Warm in September, options at lots of budgets and plenty of hotels either in Palma or within about 20 mins taxi of the airport.

Myself and my daughter are off to Camp de Mar (Alua Gran) in Majorca again on Friday for 3 nights . It's a lovely AI hotel. Very small and safe resort so perfect for 3 nights. Beach right next to hotel. We can't wait 😁

My teen loved bath. We lounged by the pool, went shopping and looked at the Roman baths. We just took the train and it was super easy and relaxing.

katiemarnie · 01/09/2026 17:15

Would have also recommended Malaga.
What sort of budget were you thinking of?

RVectensian · 01/09/2026 17:16

Daughter and I went to Croatia a month or so ago, did 4 nights. It was lovely.

OrchidRosetta · 01/09/2026 18:02

I really didn’t expect Croatia. £1300 is about what I’m finding. I’m not sure the weather will be hot enough to sunbathe in Mallorca? I’ll be booking on Friday so any other option in Spain?

Málaga City. Lots to do, not far from the beach. Taxi's are cheap. Hotel Barcelo is lovely and has a roof top pool. Train station accessible from Hotel for trips out. Huge mall nearby walking distance. Very safe place to be. Use Get My Guide to book trips and they pick you up just around the corner from your hotel. About 20 minutes taxi ride from airport.

OrchidRosetta · 01/09/2026 18:03

Oh Croatia is under 3 hours! I didn’t realise. And it’ll be hot?

Well depends what you want, but would expect mid to high 20s in September. I've not been to Malaga but google indicates the average is a couple of degrees warmer than that. If you want hotter as in reliable 30 you may need to go a bit further? But the Costa del Sol is usually the warmest coastal area in the non geographically African bits of Spain iyswim.

Seville. Stunning and close to the airport.
Something like this hotel with rooftop pool would be ideal I imagine - www.vinccimolviedro.com/en/services/

I've gone to Malaga, Krakow and Malta with just me and my teenage daughter for short breaks. Loved them all and always felt safe. Not sure about a pool in any of them but we were out and about looking around.

thismummydrinksgin · 01/09/2026 19:06

I’ve done Palma with my DD, dead easy, lots of shops and nice beaches x

OrchidRosetta · 01/09/2026 19:09

Seville sounds lovely. Does it have that safe feeling?

Yeah deffo. I don’t think there’s any city in Europe I’ve found noticeably unsafe to be honest (vs like Egypt, Morocco etc). Just usual rules apply re belongings and pickpockets etc.

Surgz · 01/09/2026 19:55

Crete is beautiful. Friendly warm and super safe. Not Malia obvs

ChiasMarineras · 01/09/2026 20:14

The Spanish Med (Mallorca / Balearics / eastern coast) is still 30-35 degrees every day so of course it’s hot enough to sunbathe and swim in the sea. Croatia won’t be much warmer than that!

Anywhere in Europe will be safe, but of course you still need to take the usual precautions you would anywhere, as a tourist and not knowing the area as well. However, there is no reason to fear a popular tourist region - not beyond pickpockets, anyway. Just be mindful in the same way you would be at home.

If you say what your closest airports are, people can help search for cheap flights. You can also set the departure point on Google Flights, and put “anywhere” as the destination, plus your desired dates. See what it comes up with. Filter by direct flights, and zoom in on the map to see the closest and shortest flight options.

Pedant61 · 01/09/2026 20:22

All of the places mentioned will be safe - why wouldn't they be?
I'd start with your local airport, and then look at the destinations they fly to, times of flights etc.
Once you have found a couple of convenient options, then you can check things like weather forecasts, hotels etc.

OrchidRosetta · 01/09/2026 20:30

@OrchidRosetta I’m going to Menorca on the 12th. The weather, atm, is forecast to be 33 degrees when we land. We went the same time last year and I spent the whole time either sitting in the children’s pool, reading, or in the sea because it was in the thirties constantly. We’ve, also, done Mallorca at the same time of year.

Bernardo1 · 01/09/2026 21:11

Malta ?

Don’t be nervous, I started travelling the world with my daughter when she was a teenager, it’s given her the confidence to work in three different countries, including Hong Kong and we’ve now travelled to 51 countries together. Just be sensible and aware of your surroundings.

MrsOosh77 · 01/09/2026 23:38

Aluasol adults only in C’an Pestilla, Mallorca. 10 minute transfer from Palma. Enough restaurants and bars to see you through 3/4 nights. Feels lovely and safe. 16yo DD and I went earlier in August and it was extremely hot. I would imagine mid September would be just right temperature wise.
