Going to the same resort/hotel twice

Does anyone go back to the same place each year?

Last year we found somewhere that ticked all the boxes. Affordable, near to a beautiful big beach, good food, clean hotel with several pools, splash bit for the younger one, Lane pool for me, decent low key entertainment but nothing too tacky or cheesy, sports bar for the teenager. I was surprised how nice it was as have never done and all inclusive type holiday before.

Trouble is that now I just can't seem to find anywhere that looks as good or certainly not for the money.

Torn between booking up the same place or taking a chance on somewhere else.

Honestly, if its got everything you like keep going. We go to Crete and have booked the same hotel for the 4th time. We have been to other places, but don't like them as much and feel its a bit of a waste. Having said that, I am a complete beach bum!

DrMadelineMaxwell · 23/01/2023 21:17

Oh go again! Yes there's a big wide world out there to try other places, but your holiday needs will change when the kids get older, but if the place you liked is still right then do it. We holidayed in the same UK place for years when the kids were little, and went to Salou twice when they were teens as they liked the theme park so much.

Rawrrawr1 · 23/01/2023 21:18

If you like it, do it!!! We have been to the same place in crete 3 times now and will happily book there again, as it has everything we want and is very low key.
Holidays can be stressful (& expensive) enough

Eastereggsboxedupready · 23/01/2023 21:19

We have a visit twice only rule! Same 'country' but different accommodation..

Starryskiesinthesky · 23/01/2023 21:20

Where is everyone going in Crete? I want to go there?!

I think there is a lot to be said for going to the same place if you like it. It just makes for a really easy stress free holiday that you just need to turn up to. Whats not to love?!

Bigweekend · 23/01/2023 21:20

I think there are two different types of holiday maker. One who wants to see the world, even if that only means hotel pools in different locations and won't go back because they want to tick off another on the list and another who enjoys a relaxing break somewhere they're comfortable/familiar with.

Over the years I've been both 😆

HedgeWench · 23/01/2023 21:24

We go every other year to a hotel we love in a pretty small Spanish town.

Best hotel ever. We do go on holidays elsewhere but I often think fuck I wish we'd just gone to "our" hotel. It's perfect for us.

Coffeepot72 · 23/01/2023 21:25

We often do repeats!

Mindymomo · 23/01/2023 21:26

We’ve been so the same hotel in Madeira and Fuerteventura twice each, but different times of the year. We then moved onto cruises and have been on a couple twice. The holidays stay the same, but it’s the children that change as they get older so want different things.

Mum2jenny · 23/01/2023 21:28

I do repeats, but they tend to be several years apart.

mobear · 23/01/2023 21:40

We often book the same place more than once. Funnily enough we’re trying somewhere new this year… in Crete!😂

chocolateisavegetable · 23/01/2023 21:51

We went to the same hotel 4 or 5 times in a row because it was perfect for what we wanted when the kids were younger. Then our requirements changed and we started going to different places. Both have their positives - something nice about going to the same hotel and knowing where everything is / how things work / little tips that took you a while to work out the first time - but obviously also nice to explore new places.

Majorcabeach · 23/01/2023 21:52

Thanks! I think we were a bit more adventurous when we only had one dc but trying to now please four of us is more difficult, plus holidays are so expensive now. It's a big risk if you end up not liking the place.

I am interested in recommendations for Crete. It's one of the Greek Islands I haven't visited.

We went to the same hotel two years running when the DC were small, because it just did everything perfectly for families with young children. I had for chatting to other people when our and about who told me how terrible the food was at their hotel, or they didn’t feel they could leave their kids at the kids club safely etc. So we didn’t want to risk it by going somewhere else and spend the holiday comparing!

boxingdayisbest · 23/01/2023 21:53

Op that sounds like my ideal holiday. Do it!

Could I also possibly ask you to share the hotel name if you don't mind please?

maeveiscurious · 23/01/2023 22:00

We have been to the same hotel
In Crete 3 times it's been fabulous each time as the DCs have grown up. It seems the last time was the last time ever for us as a family.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 23/01/2023 22:03

We're going back to a 5 star in egypt. For 3 weeks this time instead of 2.Loved every second.

rookiemere · 23/01/2023 22:06

We've been to the same apart hotel in Tenerife 5 times. Sadly i think our 2021 visit was the last as the pool was chilly and the apartments needed redecorating. Also DS had grown out of it, but when they are younger there is a great comfort in knowing where you're going and that it suits your family's needs.

glasshole · 23/01/2023 22:06

We go to new places but we have two places we've returned to. One is a cheap but amazing all inclusive in Tunisia and another is little self catering complex in the heart of Sidari, in Corfu. It's absurdly stress free, we have friends there, we know all the best places , everything within walking distance and it feels like a home from home.

TheChosenTwo · 23/01/2023 22:07

Arghh I hate doing this so much!! We have done it before when the dc were young to the same self catering villas for a few years in a row for much the same reasons as everyone else, it’s easy because you know how everything works, where the local shops are etc etc but I just find it really dull - I like new places personally.
My mum often books to go back to the same resort because she’s disabled and she says they’re really accommodating at allocating a suitable room, helping my stepdad with the luggage etc and generally really rates their hospitality so I can definitely see why she and many others are repeat customers, it’s just not my preference.

SmileWithADimple · 23/01/2023 22:07

We are generally really varied with our holidays, but there was one year when we all loved it so much that we went straight back to the same hotel the following year!

BingleBongleBoo · 23/01/2023 22:24

We normally don't repeat. But last year we went to a lovely hotel the kids were so happy there and the food was fab so we've booked to go again this year and I can't wait Grin

Go for it!

Vikingmama79 · 23/01/2023 22:28

I could never get people who did this until I became one of them and now looking forward to our 4th visit to same resort, we do mix the hotels up though for a bit of variety but it’s just so relaxing and easy knowing the drill the second you arrive. Having said that this is for a short winter sun break and we do always try someone new in the summer.

Radiatorvalves · 23/01/2023 22:32

When I was younger I would have thought repeat visits were a bit boring, but we go to the alps several times a year. Year in year out. We all love it there and as kids have grown up we’ve done different things.

enjoy.

Toomanybirthdays · 23/01/2023 22:38

We went to the same apartments in Mallorca for a few years when children were small…absolutely idyllic.
We went here last summer for the first time in about 14 years and we fell in love with that place all over again.
