Going to the same resort/hotel twice

Does anyone go back to the same place each year?

Last year we found somewhere that ticked all the boxes. Affordable, near to a beautiful big beach, good food, clean hotel with several pools, splash bit for the younger one, Lane pool for me, decent low key entertainment but nothing too tacky or cheesy, sports bar for the teenager. I was surprised how nice it was as have never done and all inclusive type holiday before.

Trouble is that now I just can't seem to find anywhere that looks as good or certainly not for the money.

Torn between booking up the same place or taking a chance on somewhere else.

We are the laziest holiday makers. The rest of the year is none stop so we book 3 weeks away in summer and just lie down!

We've been to the same hotel in Turkey twice in a row and I'd happily go next year too!

I like a huge, faceless hotel where I'm anonymous and don't need to see the same people too often

MalagaNights · 24/01/2023 13:16

I love having a place that we all love, talk about, look forward to returning to, and chat about what we'll do, what we love most, what we're looking forward most to etc.

Returning to somwhere I love allows me to daydream about being there throughout the year.

Going somewher new allows me to research and anticipate, which I also love, but more work is involved and a higer degree of uncertainty.

Sometimes you just need to decide what you need that year: the relaxation of safety and security of somewhere that works, or a year for more uncertainty, exploration & excitement.

Everyone says your one of 2 types of traveller, but I don't think that's true. At diffrent times for diffrent reasons I want diffrent things.

Snoopystick · 24/01/2023 13:36

No, we went to Turkey a few years ago to a very nice all inclusive and everyone we were talking to were on their 4th or 5th visit. We like to do day and boat trips etc so want to see something new. The only repeats I’d do would be to cities but do different museums etc.

I don’t think it’s true either. We go to new places and places we have never been before.

SpookyBlackCat · 24/01/2023 13:42

We do repeats too. The kids look forward to going back to the same place and it's easier for me to plan as I know what the score is. I have this fantasy of travelling the world by myself once my kids are grown up, but we are also a big family, so I prefer easy these days.

Places we have been before.

SleepingStandingUp · 24/01/2023 13:46

Do you mean a different hotel in roughly the same area? Pointless, book the nice one.

Or trying a new area! Country totally. Honestly I'd prob give this one more go, the kids l be fine not going to a different country and you know you'll get a hotel you want

Zipps · 24/01/2023 14:21

We go to Cala d'or every other year because we love it and have found our perfect hotel which we go back to.
However each year we also go to more than one country/city that is completely new to us.
Best of both worlds.

Would you mind sharing? I seem to be going round in circles and your description sounds spot on!

allfurcoatnoknickers · 24/01/2023 14:59

We do repeats, but generally skip a few years. Been to the same resort in Mexico three times now but with 2-3 year gaps in-between.

My love to go to the same place year after year after year and I used to absolutely HATE it as a small child (def remember hating it at 7), so I'm mindful of mixing things up.

I am very brand loyal though and DH and I tend to have preferences of hotel groups we like to stay with.

Purpleavocado · 24/01/2023 15:06

We've been to the same hotel in Turkey three times now.. I'm a bit bored and will book somewhere different next time, but I'm sure DH would be happy to keep going back. He is a real creature of habit though, and will always order the same Indian meal, etc.

Roselilly36 · 24/01/2023 15:07

Holidays cost a lot of money, if it’s somewhere you like, tried and tested, I would book again, rather than risk being disappointed.

EdithWeston · 24/01/2023 15:08

We kept going back to the same place when the DC were young.

When something works, it works

Firstshoes · 24/01/2023 15:16

We're off to Crete for the first time this year Grin..where do the Crete regulars stay?

MrsTerryPratchett · 24/01/2023 15:19

I never repeat because I can't stand the idea that there is so much to see and so little time! I don't really even like going back to the same country.

But if holidays for you are for relaxing and having a nice time with family, a place you know is great. No first few days finding out where everything is, no worries finding the place etc.

icefishing · 24/01/2023 15:21

We generally don't repeat but revisited a previous hotel that we last stayed in five years ago.
It was great and dd has been campaigning ever since to go back this year.

OpportunityKnockss · 24/01/2023 15:23

I rarely repeat but did go to the same hotel in Dubai twice, once with the DC and then again for a couples holiday . It was just as good the second time.
The second time I went to Cape Town and to Prague I stayed in a hotel I liked the look of the first time I went and that worked well.
My rule is as long as as there’s lots to do in the area so the days out feel different then repeating can be a good plan.

AuntieDolly · 23/01/2023 21:15

Honestly, if its got everything you like keep going. We go to Crete and have booked the same hotel for the 4th time. We have been to other places, but don't like them as much and feel its a bit of a waste. Having said that, I am a complete beach bum!

What's the hotel? We are looking at Crete this summer!

DevonCream · 24/01/2023 15:24

Rawrrawr1 · 23/01/2023 21:18

If you like it, do it!!! We have been to the same place in crete 3 times now and will happily book there again, as it has everything we want and is very low key.
Holidays can be stressful (& expensive) enough

Where is it if you don't mind me asking? We are looking at Crete this summer

DevonCream · 24/01/2023 15:25

maeveiscurious · 23/01/2023 22:00

We have been to the same hotel
In Crete 3 times it's been fabulous each time as the DCs have grown up. It seems the last time was the last time ever for us as a family.

Ooh which hotel please?

Ponderingwindow · 24/01/2023 15:27

I often rebook trips. My goal is relaxation, mental rejuvenation, and at this point quality time with my teen. An easy to plan trip that I know works well is an obvious choice.

BiddyPop · 24/01/2023 15:31

We have done that a few times.

Grab Canaria twice to same resort.

Same place twice and another place locally another time on the Atlantic coast of France.

Have gone to the Sherwood Centre Parcs twice (few years in between) and another time to Longleat, and another near Amsterdam.

But we've been to Paris a few times and always different hotels and suburbs. Same with Amsterdam - a few visits but different parts.

And lots of one off holidays all over the place.

Some things are good to repeat - you know the area, the services, what to bring from home, and can just arrive and get stuck in. But have new adventures too.

And sometimes the completely new to explore and enjoy is good too.

Majorcabeach · 24/01/2023 15:34

It's the Viva Blue Playa de Muro. There isn't much around in the area, just a few shops and restaurants but we only really went out to the beach and shops.

Truth is I think that none of us are really too sure what exactly we want from a holiday and it's tough to keep everyone happy.

I'd like a bit of walking and some sightseeing, the teenager is only interested in football and food, youngest still just wants a pool to splash about n, dh just wants a rest.

Me too. I always want to find a new town/museum/ancient site/restaurant/market/beauty spot. Life's too short to he repeating holidays.

watchingpullimgepisode6 · 24/01/2023 17:58

Mil goes to the same 3 times a year. Has done for as long as I can remember
If you loved it go back
