We are supposed to fly to Lanzarote on Monday but my idiot husband has lost his passport and not realised until the very last minute. We've torn the house upside down and it just isn't here. We can't get an emergency one quick enough.

So we have a week off, neither of us can cancel our leave. We have a toddler and the UK forecast is pretty shit, but we can't bare to spend a whole week at home after how much we've been stuck at home the past couple years.

Where do we go? What do we do? Suggestions are desperately needed, I thought of CBeebies land and Peppa pig etc but it's only a day really, we want to try and fill a week.

Alternatively I leave DH at home with toddler and have a week in Lanzarote alone which is tempting beyond belief

Lanzarote. See if he get it sorted to join you for a couple of days at the end

negomi90 · 30/09/2021 14:25

You go to Lanzarote. Dh has special bonding time with toddler. The holiday's already been paid for, no sense in it going to waste.

Notaroadrunner · 30/09/2021 14:36

You still have time to find it. Think back to when it was used last, check luggage, other bags he may have used or handbags you may have used on your last holiday. Has he needed it for ID recently (for bank/getting vaccine for example) - maybe he left it in a jacket pocket afterwards.

If it can't be found then I suggest you go on holiday with or without your toddler - without will clearly be easier for you. No point you missing out because he cannot look after his passport.

Alicetheowl · 30/09/2021 14:50

Go yourself. Leave the toddler with your husband. It would be different with a slightly older child who might get something out of it/remember it/be disappointed that they are not going to see the lovely seaside they were promised. If you tell them that instead of that they are going to watch Peppa Pig and make cupcakes,t hey won't care.

Maybe put aside some of the money your husband would have spent on the holiday for meals etc for a weekend treat for him-an activity, music event, sporting event?

Aposterhasnoname · 30/09/2021 14:51

You continue to tear the house apart until it’s found. Passports don’t have legs, it must be somewhere.

QueenoftheKarens · 30/09/2021 14:52

Continue looking for the passport? It must be in the house your just not looking hard enough.

HollowTalk · 30/09/2021 14:58

I think you should keep looking.

Has he ever used it for ID? If not then surely the only time he would've used it would be when he was returning from holiday. Have you checked the car's glove compartment? Inside a suitcase? Inside a kindle cover if he only reads on holiday?

Lookatthat · 30/09/2021 15:03

At his work? Lots of my colleagues managed to leave theirs in the office before lockdown (it’s used either for ID for buildings or for travel for work).

AtomicBlondeRose · 30/09/2021 15:03

I read on here that you're most likely to find something basically in arm's length of the place you were first drawn to look for it!

samwitwicky · 30/09/2021 15:03

You realise this is a blessing in digitise don't you?

GO ON THAT HOLIDAY!!

Do it for all of us Wine

samwitwicky · 30/09/2021 15:04

Wtf

Disguise not digitise

deadleaves · 30/09/2021 15:05

I would totally go to Lanzarote? Do you have a friend or family member who could come with you last minute?

Ohsugarhoneyicetea · 30/09/2021 15:06

Go of course, even if you take toddler and put them in holiday club a few hours a day. But he wont want you to, bet he wants you to pay for his mistake too. That's men isn't it.

sqirrelfriends · 30/09/2021 15:07

Go on holiday with or without the toddler. Why should everyone miss out?

ChessieFL · 30/09/2021 15:07

Check all the little pockets of any suitcase or bag. Inside pockets of coats/jackets. Not tucked inside yours/toddlers passport?

TheWholeWorld · 30/09/2021 15:10

You should absolutely still go on the holiday. Up to you whether you bring DC or not.

But I agree your DH should keep looking for his passport.

NLondondiva · 30/09/2021 15:13

You’ll lose the money you paid for the holiday if you don’t go, so on that basis I would go and take but take the toddler too. And if you can transfer DH’s ticket to another name, maybe take a friend/family member with you.

greensteps · 30/09/2021 15:14

Hmm, I’m not sure ‘find the passport’ or ‘have a holiday on your own’ are quite the answers you’re looking for op.

How about centreparcs? Legoland? A city break like York or Leeds or Bristol (depending on where you are) with lots of museums to go to?

stripetop · 30/09/2021 15:18

You need to go back in time and retrace it. Where did he last go, who with? What time of year? What was he wearing...like a jacket? Which bags were taken..where do they usually live, if a drawer take out every drawer and right down the back. Has he needed it for any other reason? What was that? When?

What a bloody shame though. That would be my plan today. Keep looking, then keep trying for emergency appointments meantime

HelloItsMel · 30/09/2021 20:29

I was joking about going alone, I wouldn't enjoy it knowing I'd left them behind.

We have looked absolutely everywhere. Checked every pocket, every bag, every suitcase. I'm at a loss. There aren't any appointments showing online that aren't in Belfast, the irony is I think we'd need a passport to get there!

It's so pants. Trying to come up with a UK break that isn't going to be depressing in comparison!

AntiHop · 30/09/2021 20:34

Could he have taken his passport into work? When I lost mine, I found it in a bag under my desk. I had taken it to photocopy, and left it there.

TheCanyon · 30/09/2021 20:38

Ours lives in the cardboard folder you get with birth certificates, how old is your toddler?

gymbummy · 30/09/2021 20:39

Have you got a scanner? That's where I found my driving licence about 18 months after I lost it.

Ragwort · 30/09/2021 20:41

Why are you joking about going alone? Just go on your own, sounds wonderful.

nbee84 · 30/09/2021 20:48

Was going to suggest the scanner too - can't remember what it was now but we searched everywhere for a document and it was in the scanner.
