Your favourite ever city break

We're lucky enough to have enjoyed a number of city breaks since children were old enough to be left at home. Looking for ideas for more unusual places to visit. As it's just for a weekend, don't want particularly long flights - max 3 hours pref less.
We've been to: Paris; Berlin; Munich; Frankfurt; Vienna; Innsbruck; Marrakesh; Prague; Budapest; Lisbon; Dubrovnik; Split

On the list already are: Bruges; Amsterdam; Milan; Seville; Bilbao; Madrid; Carcassonne; Krakow

Where have you visited that you'd strongly recommend as a werkend destination? Apologies in advance if I say we've already been somewhere you suggest, I've not listed the places we've visited on summer holidays

Well it's not unusual but Rome is my absolute favourite city to visit.

Trondheim.

Copenhagen- absolutely lovely.

Istanbul. Girls weekend (so hammam visit, not sure how that works if you're a couple - maybe some bigger hotels have private ones?). Beautiful city, delicious food, nice people.

Florence.

My absolute favourite was Florence. You must go there. Great time to go as not too hot.

feliciabirthgiver · 16/02/2019 08:13

Porto, cinque terre, Barcelona and Venice

OnceUponAGiraffe · 16/02/2019 08:13

I can’t see I’ve been to many but I loved Barcelona.

Discombobulated9 · 16/02/2019 08:13

Bruges was wonderful

gimmetheginbottle · 16/02/2019 08:15

We really enjoyed Geneva, got an amazing bargain flight/hotel package with BA and hotels give you a free public transport pass. It's very expensive otherwise. But a gorgeous lakeside setting, and you can cross into France and go up Mont Salève on a cable car. Lovely!

Why not try Edinburgh....easy to get around on foot, lots of interesting places and great places to eat

Littlebelina · 16/02/2019 08:17

Granada (since Seville is already on the list)

Wow, so many suggestions already!!! Thank you. We did Rome, Venice and Florence on a summer holiday and agree all, fab weekend destinations if you haven't been.
Edinburgh is indeed lovely but have spent a lot of time there with work over the years.
