A cheery thread - ******Where are you going for your summer hols?********

Blimey, it's just taken the best part of 2 days on the computer to make a decision and book a holiday for Easter. Too much choice!!

I now want to think of summer hols. I don't mind how far but want sunshine, bit of beach, bit of culture, bit of sightseeing, children 10 and 7.

Anyone else booked somewhere yet and willing to recommend.

oh spoogs, am not really disappointed - am thrilled, honest

emmatom - asked about budget because afew people i know have raved about this place - vila vita parc in the algarve but not sure how far it is from interesting town for sightseeing etc. we're thinking of going in early spring

BettySpaghetti · 08/01/2007 13:48

We've just booked accommodation for a weeks holiday in Belgium/Holland over Easter (in fact I've started a thread asking for any discount codes for EuroTunnel if anyone can help ).

Not sure about the summer -we want somewhere sunny but not too long a flight, child-friendly but also interesting from a cultural, sightseeing point of view. I'll keep an eye open here for ideas.

We're going to Brittany. Lovely beaches, lovely food, get to practice my dodgy French. Ds is reading the ladybird 'life in the Stone Age' book at the moment and is looking forward to seeing Carnac. Not sure there'd be enough sunshine for you though.

emmatomATO · 08/01/2007 13:50

The trouble I have essmom is deciding on an area. I can normally pick a country that appeals but unless I've been before I get concerned about what that particular location is like.

My holiday from hell would be ending up at an 18-30 type place or a fish and chips in the sun type place.

I just like going on recommendations.

if if my plans come together our summer hols will consist of a weekend at the Download Festival.

this year i am going to make the best of where we live. we live by the sea. other people use the beach for BBq's kite flying etc.

i am going to do that.

TheBlonde · 08/01/2007 13:51

We have a week booked in Cornwall in July - self catering cottage near the beach

Might go to Sweden

Pinotmum · 08/01/2007 13:51

We're off to The Algarve

crazydazy · 08/01/2007 13:53

We went to the Algarve last year, was really nice, weather was gorgeous!!!

This year we are going to Paphos in Cyprus and are getting married there!!!! Can't wait.

emmatomATO · 08/01/2007 13:56

The villa vita parc does look lovely. Thank you for that.

What made you think of Belgium and Holland Bettyspaghetti?

Are you driving to Brittany Beckybrastraps? I've done the war graves tours around that area but want to avoid long trips in the car now with children.

Corsica again for us.

Finest beaches in Europe IMO, with a backdrop of proper snow capped mountains and French/Italian food. Direct flights now too.

Probably doesn't tick your box for culture but has an interesting history.

LITTLELOLLI · 08/01/2007 14:00

Im going to australia! well actually its honeymoon but we are taking the kids!

geogteach · 08/01/2007 14:01

Where are you going holland / belgium Betty, i fancy that but don't know where to start. We were near Carnac last year in a mobile home.

ShowOfHands · 08/01/2007 14:02

Well after giving birth in May I will be:

Going to the Cambridge Folk festival (July/August)

Going to the Beautiful Days festival in Devon (August)

Might try and get up to Scotland- Skye maybe- for a few days.

BettySpaghetti · 08/01/2007 14:02

We (well DP) has family there emmatomATO. Last time we went it was pre-children and we stayed with family. This time, with two children, we've found some self-catering accom to give us some independence and to make it more of a "holiday".

yeahinaminute · 08/01/2007 14:05

We're off to Belgium N/France just before Whitsun (My SIL lives there - cheap holiday !!) We usually use Norfolk Lines Dover to Dunkirk - really cheap and quick!!

And then in June to friends lovely villa up a mountain in Spain to the north of Malaga (n'other cheap holiday as she doesn't charge us for accommodation only the leccy used !!)
