Blimey, it's just taken the best part of 2 days on the computer to make a decision and book a holiday for Easter. Too much choice!!

I now want to think of summer hols. I don't mind how far but want sunshine, bit of beach, bit of culture, bit of sightseeing, children 10 and 7.

Anyone else booked somewhere yet and willing to recommend.

Boston for three weeks! We're doing a house swap and we will be swapping cars too. The house looks fantastic and they have the same age/same gender children too (well we will have an extra baby) so beds, toys, car seats are all sorted too.

Plan to go to at least two of the following - Cape Cod, Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard while we are there. We're all booked and got the flights cheaper than they are in the BA sale.

Can't wait!

Gem13 what a fantastic thing to do, how did that come about i would love something like that?

We are going to Menorca, to the same place we went last year which was lovely. My parents will be there too at the same time but different hotel so will be great seeing them too, cant wait

mosschops30 · 09/01/2007 20:12

littlelolli, make sure you go to Byron Bay. We took dd to oz when she was 5 and she still talks about it now nearly six years on as the best holiday eva!

IntergalacticWalrus · 09/01/2007 20:16

Off to Kefalonia in Sept with DP and the boys (wonderful)

Also going is a friend of ours (wonderful) and my mum and her DP (not so wonderful)

Can't wait. Need to lose 3 stone by then though so I don't get harpooned by Greenpeace while sunbathing

SherlockLGJ · 09/01/2007 20:17

Well last year we went to Costa Del Overdraft Reduction. It worked.

Not sure this year.

IntergalacticWalrus · 09/01/2007 20:23

lgj, we go there every year! The weather's shocking though, isn't it?

we are only going away thi year because my mum is paying, gawd bless her

SherlockLGJ · 09/01/2007 20:29

SherlockLGJ · 09/01/2007 20:32

Get your eyes tested you lampy mare.

MegaLegs · 09/01/2007 20:32

Like Becybrastraps hoping to go to Brittany. we were going to camp with the two families we went away with last year - HOWEVER I've just checked out the prices for ferry crossings for the week we are all free and it's £580. EEEK.

MegaLegs · 09/01/2007 20:32

Think we'll go to IOW again instaed.

Gem13 · 09/01/2007 21:17

mosschops - We did a home exchange last year to Sweden which was so great we sorted out this summer's the week we returned.

I did it through homeexchange.com. You can browse the listings - see who wants to come to England, what they offer and if you're tempted by any you can sign up for the $30 (?) membership and send emails to those you are interested in, giving your details.

FWIW - ours is a modest three bed house in an historic town near the sea (so nice but not fantastic!) and their's is a 5 bedroom, 2 sitting room, wrap-around porch Victorian!

persephonesnape · 09/01/2007 21:21

Lucy, i do need a tent, but I'd prefer rough camping to organised sites. kids are a wee bit older now so it's a lot easier to wrangle them on my own ( when they were smaller i always felt they were ganging up on me a little as regards attention. (only 15 months between ds1 & 2)

still, I'm planning a week in London to visit my relatives and saving for a holiday next year. I shouldn't really complain because I've just recently given up smoking - that's the reason why we couldn't afford to ever go away (well, that and no maintenance )

sorry to bring the thread down everyone! hopeyou all have lovely holidays! all sounds great!

shazronnie · 09/01/2007 21:26

We're going to Butlins Minehead - no culture (unless you count Bob the Builder), weather not guaranteed, but the kids have so much fun DH and I are happy too!

emmatomATO · 10/01/2007 13:57

Spoogs, no I still havn't made a firm decision. Everyone's suggestions sound so lovely I want to do them all!!!!

Spoogs, the villa does look lovely. Looks like you'll have a lovely time. We've booked a Villa for Easter - on the North coast of Majorca (I've never done Spain before, always avoided it because of its fish and chips image. But I've been assured it's changed and this particular location is beautiful. We're in the countryside with mountains behind us and the coast in front).

I think the summer trip will be further afield. aDad recommended Thailand and a friend has just returned from Dubai and they said it was wonderful. So I'm tempted by both of those.

Gem13's Boston trip will be so good too. We combined Boston with New England and did all the Marthas Vinyard, Cape Cod trips. It really is all white picket fences. Really lovley. If you're listening Gem, do some whalewatching if you can. They took us out for miles somewhere off Cape Cod and it was one of the most awe-inspiring sights to see those huge whales right in front of us. Oh, and the Cheers Bar of course!

megalegs - if you don't mind the drive from Boulogne you can get Dover - Boulogne return for about £60 at the moment on sppedferries.

zubb · 12/01/2007 16:33

speedferries

Toothyboy · 12/01/2007 19:45
