Blimey, it's just taken the best part of 2 days on the computer to make a decision and book a holiday for Easter. Too much choice!!

I now want to think of summer hols. I don't mind how far but want sunshine, bit of beach, bit of culture, bit of sightseeing, children 10 and 7.

Anyone else booked somewhere yet and willing to recommend.

S of France I think

emmatomATO · 08/01/2007 14:07

So what part of Corsica aDad? I loved Corfu. I'm thinking it might be along the same lines? - little villages in mountains, clear waters, friendly locals?

geogteach -we're staying right on the border of N. Belgium and Holland (about 20km west of Antwerp). I don't know the area really so it will be an adventure.

Last time we were there (as mentioned in my previous post) it was pre-children, middle of winter, very cold, DPs family didn't have central heating so we spent most of our time in bars drinking their rather fine beer!

Littlelolli - Australia has been my favourite holiday destination to date. Loved all of it from Sydney to Ayres Rock to Cairns. You'll have a wonderful time.

All corsica is nice - the southern beaches are the most famous for crystal clear turquoise water, fine sand etc.

It is like the bits of corfu you describe, and doesn't have the bits of corfu you didn't mention (hordes of young brits!).

recommend it 100%.

Thank you aDad. I'm narrowing my search now.

I've got South of France for very easy to get to holiday. Corsica for a bit further.
Just want some recommendations on a little bit further than that now. Dubai or Thailand anyone?

Thailand is wonderfully friendly, lovely scenery, culturally interesting.

I've not been to dubai but of those 2 options I think Thailand would make a far more interesting family holiday.

We're going to my parents -- in the US. Flying into Toronto, then taking a train to Lake Eire. Where my dad will pick us up and drive us to their house in OH. On the way home we are taking the ferry across the Lake, then train to Toronto to see DH's aunt & cousins, then home again.

Kbear · 08/01/2007 20:06

France hopefully, if we can find somewhere in budget! (small budget ha ha!).

Usually Highlands of Scotland and I am already pining away at the thought of not going.

jenkel · 08/01/2007 20:13

We have a week booked in a cottage in Pembrokeshire for whitsun half term and just about to book corsica for a week in the summer holidays, so they south coast is better is it?

carlsberg · 08/01/2007 20:14

Pathos, Cyprus in the summer holidays, and also somewhere warm abroad for a week in the Easter holidays.

Ceolas · 08/01/2007 20:19

Not sure. Baby is due end of Aug so probably sticking to UK turf.

Hulababy · 08/01/2007 20:23

We are going away for two weeks in August with PILs. We have hired a house (booked via Welcome Cottages) in the south of France, and have booked the flights also (with Jet2). Just need to arrange car hire.

We are also going away for a week at Easter, staying in a cottage with friends, in North Yorkshire.

Hulababy · 08/01/2007 20:25

We are heading to the area near Frejus, but further inland for the house. Will then visit Cannes, Nice, St Tropez, Monaco, etc. Maybe even have a day trip to Italian borders.

Went to this area in summer 2005 and it was lovely. Very warm, lovely areas.

CakeandFineWine · 08/01/2007 20:28

DP's dad hiring a villa in Italy for the whole family YEAH

So be mine and DP 1st (abroad) holiday for over 3yrs and our DD's 1st holiday EVER!!! FAB!!!

LittleHarrysMum · 08/01/2007 20:31

Have a week in Paphos, Cyprus for Hen do then 2 weeks in Barbados for the wedding - so excited I can't wait. Not too excited about prospect of 8 hour plane journey with 10 month old though

persephonesnape · 08/01/2007 21:46

I can't read all the responses on this thread, I'm insanely jealous. We've never had a family holiday - my youngest is seven and we haven't been anywhere since his brother was 1 and my daughter 3. won't be able to afford one this year either.

shall go off into a corner and spit nails.

emmatomATO · 09/01/2007 19:04

Thanks to everyone for their replies. It's been lovely reading them and thinking of hot sunshine on my back as well as giving me some ideas.
