Anyone have any idea on processing time of First Passports at the moment? We sent our daughters application via check and send almost 2 weeks ago and no idea on when to expect it back. Hopefully someone can shed some light?!

Irishtown, we submitted overseas adult renewal on 22 April. They recieved it in 29 April. They never contacted us at all, but did respond to an email telling us it was under examination in Liverpool. I rang them (0300 number) last tuesday, exactly 6 weeks to the date they received it. Got through immediately, very nice lady emailed Liverpool office to chase (we go kn vacation 1 July) and told me to call again if no news by Friday. Lo and behold, passport turns up by courier on friday morning! There is hoepe.

Hairbrush123 · 15/06/2014 13:11

Rima94- mmmm. Maybe. I'm not entirely sure - just give the 0845 number a ring first time tomorrow and hopefully they arrange something for you. Is it a standard renewal? How long has it been? When do you travel?

rima94 · 15/06/2014 13:22

Hairbrush123- Yeah i definitely will tomorrow. Yeah a standard renewal which i sent off 7 weeks ago and I travel early hours of Friday so need it latest by Thursday

Irishtown · 15/06/2014 13:48

I sent mine 28th may I don't travel till 23rd august. I thought it would be plenty of time but apparently not. I also need them back as I have to do the immigration for America and to get my tickets from Virgin .....they wont issue tickets without valid passport numbers. Im back onto belfast tomorrow to see if my renewals have been done I really don't want the hassle of having to drive to Belfast to pick up.

Hairbrush123 · 15/06/2014 14:11

Rima94 - good luck. I hope you get it in time. Please keep us updated.

Would you give me the number you called please?

Dreid · 15/06/2014 17:02

Hi there, I too stupidly lost the barcode application number but I know my application was sent to Glasgow. Have looked on here and can't find the 0845 number for Glasgow, can anyone help? We're due to travel in two weeks. Am waiting for a response from my MP.

Hulababy · 15/06/2014 17:21

My parents have been with the nearly 4 weeks now, and 4 weeks left to go before they go away with DD.

For some reason their passports are being dealt with in Belfast (we are in South Yorkshire) so they will be no option of going and getting it themselves.

Apparently it has been flagged with their travel dates.

They have now had their old passports returned. Though obviously as they have had their corners cut off and presumably cancelled, they still await the new ones.

Hairbrush123 · 15/06/2014 17:53

Dreid, the only direct number I could find for you for you is: 0845 601 5175. Not sure if it's the right one but it's worth a shot. Give it a try tomorrow morning at 9am. Be prepared to wait up to an hour for an answer. How long have they had your passport for?

Bagarag · 15/06/2014 18:14

Sent one adult renewal to Belfast on 29th May and need it to fly on 1st July. Had sent a child first passport early May and got back in 10 days so thought I would have been ok! Obviously before the news of backlog broke. Going to book 23rd off work and go down to the office if it hasn't arrived. Willing to pay whatever.

Anybody pay be cheque know how long after the money was withdrawn they had to wait til passport arrived? Cheque showing out on 10th June.

Cheque for child passport cashed May 15th and passport issue date May 20th so hoping not too long for my adult renewal.

Good luck everyone. A lesson well learnt, I will never do this so late again!

Hulababy · 15/06/2014 18:43

If my parents have their old passports back...does this mean the new ones must be on their way?

Hairbrush123 · 15/06/2014 18:45

Yes, Hulababy. Allow a few days for it to arrive.

Hulababy · 15/06/2014 19:06

Oh thanks :) That is positive news. I keep reading on here and then the media about all the delays and DD keeps panicking that her grandparents won't be able to go - but they will :) Will have taken about 4.5-5 weeks I guess by time they arrive.

gowan1990 · 15/06/2014 19:10

Did any of to send flight details to prove they was going in next 7 days to avoid the fast track fee

Hairbrush123 · 15/06/2014 19:22

Gowan1990, do you have to prove that to HMPO? I don't think anyone on this forum had to do that...

gowan1990 · 15/06/2014 19:38

Yea says on the government page u have to provide details hope not told them I go 25th when I don't I go 27th

Irishtown · 15/06/2014 19:46

Ive not heard of anyone else being asked for that. If you were in an emergency then you have to provide evidence

Hairbrush123 · 15/06/2014 19:57

I just think that's a deterrent for people not to misuse HMPO inappropriately... I wouldn't read too much into that - like Irishtown said, it's more for emergency situations like an ill family member abroad or something and that's good, Hulababy. Have a great trip.

Lifestooshorttosleep · 15/06/2014 20:00

Janjanmama, I called 00443002220000 and they were very helpful. Good luck

lucylucylu238 · 15/06/2014 20:03

It's been 3 weeks and 2 days since we sent husband's passport I can't wait till tomorrow to call them to see what's happening our holiday is end of July we did call last week because what has been on the news but they said wait till next week we sent our daughters application too it came back 4 weeks 1 day later that's was not check and send but husband was check and send

Irishtown · 15/06/2014 20:06

Tha helpline staff are pretty useless. They give incorrect and totally misleading information. Dont waste your money speaking to them....if you go back a few pages on this thread you will see direct dial numbers for all of the offices ring them at 9 in the morning its the only way to get your passport processed...hairbrush will tell you thats the reason she got hers just mither them good luck

rima94 · 15/06/2014 20:11

hey lifestooshorttosleep- how long were you on hold to Liverpool using that number? i'm really desperate to get some quick answers as I'm going away on friday

gowan1990 · 15/06/2014 20:15

Took me 90 mins to get through to liverpool

rima94 · 15/06/2014 20:17

gowan1990- what number did you use? The 0845 one or another one?

jamtoast12 · 15/06/2014 20:30

They haven't confirmed if holidays are included in the fee waiver for fast track have they? They confirmed they'd fast track for free but didn't say if it included those who book travel as they specifically advise against it. I think it includes those who need to travel for emergencies like visiting ill relatives etc hence the proof.
