Anyone have any idea on processing time of First Passports at the moment? We sent our daughters application via check and send almost 2 weeks ago and no idea on when to expect it back. Hopefully someone can shed some light?!

ThePrisonerofAzkaban so sorry for your loss.

The post office in Cardiff told me that Newport passport office have told them that there's no delays. I hope that reassures you - it hasn't me because I'm a worrier, but that's what they said! Why don't you call the general advice line to see if they can tell you the status.

ThePrisonerOfAzkaban · 17/06/2014 15:33

Thank you looking I've seen a ton of numbers on this thread and but I haven't seen one for Newport yet, does anyone have it please? I'd be most grateful

anonymous2234 · 17/06/2014 15:53

leaving tommorow and still no passport :/ they had application since april

thehogopogo · 17/06/2014 16:06

Well! That's it! Our plane left this afternoon. Without us. Angry

anonymous2234 · 17/06/2014 16:10

when did you apply?

Janjanmama · 17/06/2014 16:30

And which office?

lurkingmurking · 17/06/2014 16:38

This thread has made me feel sick. I applied on 4th June for a child and adult renewal. We fly on 9th July. I just called the 0300 number and got through within 1 minute and was told that the applications are in Belfast. He was really helpful and said they have 2 extra staff and that when 3 weeks is up if we've not received anything call back and upgrade the application.

Fuck why didn't I just fast track both applications!!!

anonymous2234 · 17/06/2014 16:47

Just spoke again gave flights details told that courier working 24hrs can only hope this is taking ages though durham has had it since april and mp on to them to :/

thehogopogo · 17/06/2014 16:49

We applied for two first passports for my babies, beginning of May. Had a request for more docs on 12May, sent back docs on 14th. Passports are in Belfast. Don't worry too much, seems like I'm in the minority according to this thread Sad

lurkingmurking · 17/06/2014 16:54

anonymous was yours for a standard renewal?

anonymous2234 · 17/06/2014 17:04

yes

lurkingmurking · 17/06/2014 17:06

Oh gosh I really really hope you get it in time

lurkingmurking · 17/06/2014 17:14

Tempted to call back and book an appointment for 2 weeks time for the premium service and not tell them I already have an application in progress...

funambulist · 17/06/2014 17:46

rima94 my son isn't travelling until August and I sent off his standard renewal on 2 June, so in theory I have plenty of time and it isn't actually late yet. It's just that knowing the back log and how long some people have been waiting I'm worrying a bit. Hopefully unnecessarily.

onedev · 17/06/2014 19:05

We got ours back in 3 weeks & 1 day (both mine & DHs completed at same time). No issues or having to chase or anything - seems a media contrived story to me!

rima94 · 17/06/2014 19:08

funambulist - I wouldn't worry in that case, just check on it from time to time but i reckon you'll be fine. Especially for a standard renewal

bLooming2 · 17/06/2014 19:11

What is direct number for Durham I fly 2 weeks today have I got no hope in getting my sons first passport back or is there hope ?

clarinsgirl · 17/06/2014 19:17

Thank you so much hopeful. I just called my bank and they were able to give me the numbers.

funambulist · 17/06/2014 19:41

Has anyone been looking at the news about the questioning of Paul Pugh (chief executive of the Passport Office) by the Commons' home affairs committee?

He told the committee that:

  • At the moment there are an extra 200,000 applications compared to this time last year, so that there are currently 480,000 passport applications in the system.
  • New applications are arriving at a rate of 150,000 per week.
  • 160,000 passports were sent out last week. 90% within the three week service standard.
  • He denied that staff cuts or ending the processing of overseas passports by embassies was responsible for the crisis.
  • He could not say how many passport applications were already later than the three week service standard.

The committee have asked for a detailed breakdown concerning the backlog by Friday.

Irishtown · 17/06/2014 19:58

Doesnt bloody help me waiting for 3 uk overseas renewals. Why the heck did they stop the embassies processing our passports. This is just a shambles, these lot couldn't give a dam

sunshinehopeful · 17/06/2014 20:08

Just reading on trip advisor about a lady who posted her renewal application on 10th June (normal fee) and received her passport this morning! Just all seems to random.

My application sent to Belfast from May 29th (adult renewal). Fly July 1st. Hoping it'll arrive early next week.

chocchoc30 · 17/06/2014 20:31

We got ours in 2 1/2 weeks mine was a name change and OH's was a renewal.

hecticmummy · 17/06/2014 20:32

hi all
I haven't posted for a few days, but just to update all that I got my child's first passport this morning.
9 May - submitted via check and send
14 May - received text that passport had been received
8 June - realised there were huge delays in passport issuances and came across this thread
9 June - called the 0300 number and learnt that my passport was at the Durham office. Called the 0845 number and advised my travel date
9 June - emailed local MP who sent a chaser for me
10 - 13 June - called several times to get updates (always the same message - that it was listed for upgrade and I would be contacted closer to travel date)
14 June - passport office called in the morning to tell me passports where being printed and would be sent special delivery on monday morning to arrive on tuesday morning
17 June - received passport

Good luck all. Hope you all manage to get passports. I do get the impression there is some order to the chaos. As long as they have advance warning (1 - 2 weeks) of your travel date, think you should be ok.

Roxywill · 17/06/2014 20:33

You're right Sunshine it just seems so random. I've been phoning Belfast every morning and each time I call there's a different process or a different stage it's up to. We fly on 28th. Praying nothing goes wrong or they need extra info. When I called today the lady said it had moved from 'awaiting examination' to 'being examined'.

Irishtown · 17/06/2014 20:35

Mine are in Belfast was onto them this morning & spoke to a lovely man who said he will do his best to get them out soon.
