Have you got your summer holiday sorted? Where are you going, and why did you choose it? Will you stay in a hotel, villa or other? Self catering or full service? Kids club? First time, or return visit?

Looking for some top tips and inspiration for my holiday "wish list", and hoping to live vicariously through my fellow Mumsnetters! Grin

i was going to go camping - eurotent style not proper camping - this camping is with bed and fridge and microwave i think - in dorset - which isnt far away and its basically somewhere for the kids to piss off and i can get amazingly shit faced without social services becoming involved - anyway

dh booked holidays - they are exremely anal about when he can book holidays - all booked then ds said " but my prom is in that week"
ffffffffffffffckkkktyfckkkkkkk

so dh has a week off work and we are going nowhere - and and i have to spend money on a prom. and cant find him a bloody wide pinstripe suit for love nor money on ebay.

pebblemum · 02/05/2006 23:28

Going to Holland, staying in a 2 eurocamp caravans at Duinrell for 10 days Mid June. Going with dh's parents, his sister and her fiance so plenty of people to amuse our 2ds's. Hope the weather is ok there as we are used to going to South of France or Spain for our main holidays

Also going away in 2wks for a weekend stay at Centre Parcs Longleat for ds1's birthday (not quite a summer holiday but looking forward to it all the same)

Linnet · 02/05/2006 23:40

Supposed to be going to the south of France for a wedding in September which will just be a long weekend as dd1 is back in school by then.

But it's going to cost a fortune for just 5 days away and it would be our only holiday so Dh might just go on his own (he's the best man so has to go really) to save money and then we'll go away somewhere next year. We're still oohing and aahhing over it though won't have a holiday otherwise, we'll see.

handlemecarefully · 02/05/2006 23:43

Going to Keycamp (Salou) for a week with a friend and her 2 children (plus my 2 children) next week - whilst dh goes on a luxury work junket to Dubai

In July staying in a luxury cottage in Kent...PILs are staying in next door cottage (on tap babysitting). There is a shared swimming pool between the two cottages.

Was also planning on a Canada trip, but tbh - I can't be arsed!!!

We are going for two separate weeks self-catering in the summer hols, one week to Tenby where we always go and another to Swanage which is "new" for us.
Really wanted to go for a fortnight somewhere but not somewhere new (in case we don't like) and Tenby house only available for a week (complicated when we can go because of football).
Hence trying out Swanage.
Not about to venture abroad until the youngest is older (he's 3). Self-catering in a house with a washing machine and a garden is also the only thing I am prepared to do.

Which campsite are you staying at near Disney MB? I'm hoping to be brave enough to do a similar holiday next year when ds2 has outgrown his death-wish phase...

charliecat · 03/05/2006 12:28

Have vouchers for legoland, thorpe park and drussilas plus groombridge place with some camping going on too. Summer on the cheap:)

crunchie · 03/05/2006 12:37

One week \link{http://www.les-tours.com\Les tours} in france. It looks fab, then hopefully a second week on Ile De Re on the cost of France. DH is sorting dates :) We leave 22nd July

We have also booked a beach hut for Frinton for the Bank Holiday week - 26th August, so we will do day trips when we can.

The kids will go to My Mum and Days the third week in August as I will be working. I am hoping to take the first 2 weeks off, or take one week then and a few days atthe end of the holiday.

Bumblelion · 03/05/2006 12:41

Long weekend (Friday to Tuesday) on 4 August to Majorca with boyfriend when children are at their dads. Stay in a hotel in Santa Ponsa where we have been for long weekends for the last 3 years. Other people go to Rome, Barcelona, Prague for a long weekend but I love the sun and the beach and like to be totally selfish for 4/5 days just laying in the sun, reading a book.

Off to Cyprus, all inclusive, me, my mum and 3 children (aged 13, 9 and 4). Been all inclusive for the last 3 years and with children would not do it any differently. Staying in Protaras which is lovely for the children (and also for me and my mum). Will be a "sun, beach, pool" holiday but won't get much "me" time looking after 3 children, well the youngest mostly, and also need to help my mum walk, she has trouble walking unaided. Also my DD has a few problem areas (sotos syndrome) but all in all we normally have a great time. Last year my boyfriend came (as well as my aunt) and my aunt - mum's sister - helped my mum to get around. This year my aunt cannot come as my nan is fairly poorly (aged 84) and she doesn't want to leave her for two weeks and my boyfriend has just started his own business and can't really afford to take 2 weeks off so soon after starting the business.

Can't wait for either.

yeahinaminute · 03/05/2006 13:00

Just back from Girls trip to France - no kids,no hubbies, great weather, loads of wine - It was fab !!
Off to friends house in the hills above Malaga for two weeks on the 18th May with DH, DD (3), then friends are joining us with their two teenage girls and bringing my dss 18 out with them ... very cheap - flights booked ages ago with easyjet and got a good car hire deal and darling friend just asks us to pay pool guy and leave something for the local lady who comes in to clean!!
Then off to sis-in-law who is living in Rome at the beginning of July for a midweek 5 day break with DH and DD - and a papal audience to boot !!
Then it's my cousin and her girlfriends civil partnership thingy in North Wales in the middle of July - so we'll stay for the weekend.
Then I think we'll have to call it quits 'til October when Dd and I go to a friends "static" in Devon with her and her DD for a long weekend.
Actually not doing too bad for the summer hols this year am I!!?
Last year had fab hols in a villa ( 2 pools, 5 beds, 4 bathrooms - scandalously expensive!)in North East Corfu with My mum, DSS, DD and DH - that was an every other year sort of holiday !

littlerach · 03/05/2006 13:30

Spain for a fortnight with mum, sdad, sister and us.
Staying ina private villa by beach with pool.
Haven't been there for 15 years, although we went a lot when I was at home, but mum etc have been more recently.

May go to visit friend in Italy in October - she is renovating a farmhouse and wants volunteers to help!

Bozza · 03/05/2006 13:51

Short break not yet planned at Spring Bank.

Main summer holiday is two weeks in France at end of August. First week we will be staying in Normandy where we stayed last year. It is a guest house run by some expats that we know and is lovely. Very peaceful country location, its an old manoir that they have renovated and they are great with the kids. Second week is in Brittany at a cottage attached to a farm. It has a garden and a washing machine Clary so you could do it! Grin

I really can't wait. Travelling Portsmouth-Cherbourg and Cherbourg-Poole.

mosschops30 · 03/05/2006 13:57
