Anybody off to Bristol? DD set her heart on Bristol after the open day. Thankfully got her place on Economics today. Seems v real now! Accommodation allocation happening next week apparently.

@FalteringFledgling So she didn’t get any of her options? Oh dear. If she’s not insurance/clearing, then did she apply on time? Why did she have no choice? DD was insurance back in the day and got a shared room in Wills. It was old and decrepit but it was a room!

The Unite buildings are basically blocked booked by the university, and within the university's accommodation portfolio. So any student putting down a preference for a self-catering room that is central may get a Unite room, run by Unite on the University's behalf. .

Bristol accommodation is an absolute lottery - it’s very common for students to get none of their preferences and loads get a room that is nothing at all like what they asked for, and very often much more expensive than their stated max (presume this last is because the bulk of the accom available is over most students preferred max). This is for students who have it as their firm choice and have done everything on time for accommodation etc.

My son has just started there and out of eg 10 people he’s met so far, none of them got any of their preferences! There’s essentially no choice at all. And you are told to accept what you’re given or go and find private. I’m sure nearly all of them end up liking what they get in the end though.

Well some must get what they want. However Bristol has definitely over expanded. They have had pressures on accommodation issues for various reasons for years but too many wanting cheaper options is an issue but they have a generous admissions policy so they have caused their own issues.
