Anybody off to Bristol? DD set her heart on Bristol after the open day. Thankfully got her place on Economics today. Seems v real now! Accommodation allocation happening next week apparently.

My DD is paying £905 a month for a shared house not including bills . The tenancy started in July.
My DS is in Edinburgh and his accommodation is about the same 😮

@Doublethecuddlesyes same for us, paying since July, bills not included, standard of house is questionable. It’s an expensive city.

Bristol has been declared the most expensive city in the uk to live in. It’s less than london, but salaries in Bristol don’t get the London weighting so overall a higher cost of living.

I knew it was pricey I just didn't expect the dire reviews I'm seeing re mould etc .

Paying for quality or basic standard is one thing paying for sub standard is anotyer

Can anyone explain how this uni works 😂my own experince was all teaching and student stuff on one main campus but ammd was a bus ride away

What is the name of the mouldy accommodation for postgrads? Some halls oscillate between UGs and PGs each year and some have been refurbished recently. I may be able to reassure you, or not.

There isn't really a central base for student socialising because accommodation and academic schools are spread over a very wide area. University owned and run halls, as opposed to the partnership properties run by e.g Unite or Dominion, have areas big enough for socialising although bars are shared and several have been shut. The others tend not to. Students in residences seem to go out into town. The Students' Union has a bar that is cheapish but not particularly popular.

It seems shes at one that's unite ? Chantry court. So I can't imagine there is any socialising there ? Certianly no bar.

I know undergrads who have lived there this year. As with any accommodation, take pictures of the condition of the room when they move in and as soon as there is anything ominous to report. If Unite pay no attention to issues, go to the council.

On the +ve side it is very close to the Clifton campus, 5 mins to the Wills Building, uphill to wake them in the morning and downhill when tired at the end of a day.

Wait 'til they move in to private next year - usually slug and mould central and filthy within a few days and they love it.

Why the council.btw and not the uni ?

And is unite known for not taking notice ?

If Unite or UoB take no notice of health and safety issues the council does. Chantry is indeed very close to lots of shops, cafes, clubs, riverside/docks and a lovely park on Brandon Hill. There are lots of other halls within 5-10 mins walk. It is not Ultima Thule and students love the city rather than campus bubble. Dint

Hello, I wondered if anyone had received their email to book accommodation as an insurance or clearing offer holder?

Nope - nothing here yet and heard they would only be issued between 9am -3.30pm each day so assume it will be tomorrow / next week now. So stressful - just want it sorted!!

Interested to read that insurance/clearing students can make a choice (though realise this may be from a limited selection) whilst firm offer holders regularly seem to get made offers that bear zero relation to their preferences or max budget? Or am I missing something here?
