Anybody off to Bristol? DD set her heart on Bristol after the open day. Thankfully got her place on Economics today. Seems v real now! Accommodation allocation happening next week apparently.

Logged onto portal and it was there. No email. Got self catered in Hiatt Baker.

DD has just graduated from Bristol. Best years of her life! Yes it’s undoubtedly incredibly expensive, but worth it for the experience that she’s had. She would say that the north village is worth the distance. The green spaces around the Downs are beautiful.
i never knew anything about the city before she went but i love it there. The waterfront is gorgeous.

WTAF!!!! DC got Hyatt Baker self catering no ensuite for 10k a year!!!!!!!! Definitely not on the list.

Anyone know anything about private halls in Bristol??

They made a mistake and gave dd post grad acxmd so I absoltuy dead to think what she will get at this late sage

Our first choice was Hiatt Baker and we got Metal Works which is in the city centre - Bedminster. It's £9,700 self catered/en suite.

DD got Metal Works. She is fairly happy as she got self catered and en suite which was her preference but bit of a schlep to uni. Thankfully she likes a walk!!

I had a DD in Hiatt Baker and they had a great time. Also had one in Durdham, who also was very happy there. The buses did not seem to be an issue - seemed frequent enough. There are also a lot of uni social events on the Downs which are walking distance from them. DD1 was in an 8 person townhouse where they shared a bathroom with one other person. I think the larger flats had larger bathrooms but shared with more people. Other DD had an en suite in Durdham. If your DC is unhappy with their allocation then there seemed to be a fair amount of swapping around in the first few weeks.

The students seem to quickly find their other flatmates on social media.

Everyone is very lucky my DD is in a place where the reviews are diabolical faxilties falling apart post grad and international studnt and mould

I feel sick to honest that they would rent out such dire acxmd with rats no heat in winter etc .

She's quite naive and I don't think realises how bad it is.

This has triggered some memories from the late 90s one of my best friends was at Bristol and in halls in Clifton ?CHH ? Goldney I cannot remember which

Stoke Bishop was a longer journey into uni but they all seemed to be very social, walking together etc

My DS is an insurance placement so gets to choose from the leftover accommodation later this week. Slightly dreading it now 🫣

Hiatt Baker, looks like it’s a busy place!
I saw on one of those fb groups people are booking their “drop off at accom” slots - any idea where that comes up? Student has signed the tenancy agreement now but says “will look through the rest later”…….

Does anyone know where the main student based is IE bar and stuff

@TallagallaPenguin on the accommodation portal after the agreement is signed. There was a link I think and DD had to read through some stuff about the accommodation then booked her slot. We are dropping her on the Friday.

My dd graduated from Bristol in Economics .
Just advise anyone who is wants to work for investment banks to start looking at Spring Weeks etc

Accommodation is expensive in Bristol which is the downside of studying there ----

Just a word of warning. If you are thinking of dropping your young person off then going to Ikea in Bristol - don’t! It’s hell on earth on move in weekend!

My DD was in Wills Halls last year and had a fantastic time and is sharing a house with girls she met there.
The rooms are basic, but she enjoyed her cooked breakfast every morning. They get a bus pass into university.
Drop off is well organised and we were given a trolley to move her belongings. We had time to drop off her stuff and make her bed.

Is 10k typical for student accommodation at Bristol? That sounds very expensive. Does that include next summer?

Not the cheapest. But seems quite typical for Bristol. Tenancy goes up to beginning of June, when term ends.
