For those whose DC have submitted their UCAS application without having yet taken the A-level (or equivalent) exams…

How are your DC getting on with hearing back from the universities?

Yay DC has KCL offer 3As for Phys MSci. Unless he gets a better/lower offer this will be his insurance, so he’s really pleased.

Also understand that his Manchester ‘Invite’ will 99.9% be followed with an offer, but the interview may lead to a lower than published offer or soften them up to make an offer if he misses a grade so he needs to pull the stops out. He was open about his AuDHD diagnosis in his statement, so they may want to be sure he is the charming kid his teachers say he is. 🤣

Excellent news @CautiousLurker2 Well done to your DS 👏

Fabfabfab · 29/01/2026 22:18

Great news @CautiousLurker2 ! Which one is the top choice now?

Definitely Manchester, though Warwick might be a contender if they come through would a good offer. No sign of a response from them yet, though.

My dd is applying with grades in hand. Got an offer from York and rejection from Sheffield. Not sure what Sheffield is thinking 😀 perhaps they guessed she only put it down as really didn’t have a fifth option she was keen on
Now waiting on Durham, Newcastle and Edinburgh Napier

CryHavoc · 30/01/2026 09:12

My daughter applied for Computer Game Art in the middle of December. She applied to Cardiff Met, Gloucestershire, Leeds, Norwich, and Falmouth. Gloucestershire and Cardiff were always her top two choices, and after interviews and portfolio presentations she has unconditional offers for both, so she has a choice to make.

It’s a nice problem to have, but not one she saw coming.

pinkdelight · 30/01/2026 11:02

Brilliant to have the unconditionals @CryHavoc huge well done to your DD. Testament to the strength of her work. Did she not like Falmouth? That and Abertay are rated top in the UK for gaming, though both are a long trek so understand if she has other preferences.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 30/01/2026 11:05

What a nice situation did your dd to be in @CryHavoc

Will she go to the OHD to help her decide which to accept.

aCatCalledFawkes · 30/01/2026 11:41

We have just had DDs final offer in and it's an unconditional offer for York which brings her up to five unconditional offers.

So far we have holding days booked for Durham and Exeter, I think she should do York as its great city, I'm not sure she really wants Bath or Hartpury.

UnimaginableWindBird · 30/01/2026 12:27

Congrats to your DDs @CryHavoc and @aCatCalledFawkes !

Kateplaysrugbyinmydreams · 30/01/2026 17:34

We have an offer from Napier now too. Great to have a choice and she really liked it at the open day.

Kateplaysrugbyinmydreams · 30/01/2026 17:35

If anybody has any questions re York let me know, we are pretty close by.

BrieAndChilli · 31/01/2026 12:37

DD got an unconditional offer from Cardiff Met which was her first choice! She did have a teams interview and had to sjow a portfolio so it would have been based on that. She confirmed it as her firm choice! I think she is relieved and means no pressure now.

UnimaginableWindBird · 31/01/2026 14:11

What is she going to be studying, @BrieAndChilli?

What is she going to be studying, @BrieAndChilli?

Graphic design and Communication

UnimaginableWindBird · 31/01/2026 14:42

Oh, that's Great. It's nice to have a fellow portfolio course person here! DD submitted her UCAS form just before the deadline, so is still waiting to hear from all the courses that wanted a portfolio.

BrieAndChilli · 31/01/2026 15:49

DD submitted hers back at the beginning of Dec so had mostnof her offers back. The only one that asked for an interview was Cardiff Met. A couple of the others wanted a portfolio submitted electronically.

UnimaginableWindBird · 31/01/2026 16:39

UAL, Nottingham Trent and Edinburgh have asked for portfolios, and she got offers from Salford and AUB without a portfolio.

AuntyBulgaria · 31/01/2026 20:18

DS has got a Loughborough offer holders day next Saturday which is great as we didn't get to an open day and it's potentially one of his favourites.

I've looked at the itinerary and it is supposed to last from 12:30 to 16:00 and only after 16:00 is there an optional campus tour! I'm exhausted just reading it.

I'm also not clear how much I leave him to do certain bits on his own. As there are taster lectures and group activities. I really don't need to a go a paper cutting group activity (I'm sure it must be more complicated then making paper snowflakes!).

Also no gaps for breaks or lunch built in.

I will have to take a book I think!

Ventress · 01/02/2026 08:15

There may be a separate doc on the uni website. That’s what we found for Durham. So DS will go to his scheduled events in the afternoon. We, the lowly parents, will go to our events (including accommodation tours) while he’s at these, then in the morning and evening there are lots of open tours or events, like the student union and bars and restaurants. It does look really full on, but good fun.

Loughborough does look good, particularly as it’s outside of a town so everything is on campus. I hope you and DS enjoy it!

Ventress · 01/02/2026 08:16

That was aimed at @AuntyBulgaria 😊

sashagabadon · 01/02/2026 08:40

My ds has grades in hand and so unconditional offers from Liverpool, Reading, Southampton, Nottingham. He wants Newcastle but no offer yet. If he does not get Newcastle he’ll accept Liverpool

mumonthehill · 01/02/2026 13:23

Ds also applying with grades in hand and has offers from NTU and Reading. Waiting for Durham, Newcastle and Oxford Brookes. He is pleased with the Reading offer and Durham a stretch with his grades still we shall see.

What grades does he have? My DD got an unconditional offer about 3wks ago for Durham. Oxford Brookes is my old uni and I loved it.

mumonthehill · 01/02/2026 15:48

@aCatCalledFawkes fab for your DD! He has BBCD - an unexpected dip in Biology. He had Oxford Brookes as his insurance last year but decided to have a year out and rethink. I loved it when we looked around it.
