Is there a thread for this year’s applicants - I can’t seem to find with a search. Thanks for signposting 🙏

Sorry to hear about Oxford news @Muchtoomuchtodo . My best friend daughter who studied Maths at Watwick just landed an undergraduate trading Quant role in an IB if that helps to lift his spirit a bit. She graduated with a 2:1 in maths.

I use the ⭐️ symbol for A⭐️!

Anyway, DS heard this afternoon that he hasn’t got an interview with Oxford. He’s got 2 offers from Warwick and Manchester and is still waiting the hear from LSE and Bath.

He’s disappointed but putting on a brave face. Time to concentrate on the upcoming driving test!

Sorry to see that. DD has also been rejected, so am really glad she has her Bath offer!

MonGrainDeSel · 02/12/2025 17:56

Sorry to hear about the rejections. Wishing your young people lots of happiness and good times at whichever university is lucky enough to get them.

Sorry to hear he hasn’t got an Oxford interview. As has already been said, he has great other offers. My DC is desperate for. Warwick offer. Good luck with the other two Uni offers, let us know how he gets on.

Haywire · 02/12/2025 18:14

Sorry for the young people who have had rejections. Feels like they have all put so much into this, to get this far.

My daughter just called me and she just got an email for an interview for Physics. She can’t believe it after all the waiting.

Llangewydd57 · 02/12/2025 19:02

Sorry to hear that it’s a no for you DD @Raindropsandposies. Bath is a great Uni and I expect she’ll get her other Uni offers too.

Mumski45 · 02/12/2025 19:03

Well done to those with an interview offer and so sorry for those that haven’t. It will feel awful now but will work out best in the long term. I remember being rejected for Maths nearly 40 years ago and it didn’t do me any harm.
DS still waiting for physics. @Haywire do you mind me asking which college your DD has an offer for.

My DH had an interview at Oxford many moons ago but did not get in and he is a maths whizz so certainly not counting any chickens.

@Mumski45 not sure about posting college name here, starts to get a bit identifying! would DM you but no clue how to. Hope your DS hears tomorrow.

Fiddlesticksand · 02/12/2025 23:26

Congratulations to all with interviews. DS got a rejection from Balliol (Maths) but has an offer from Edinburgh (Maths and Physics) which has surprised and delighted us. Still waiting for Warwick, Bath, and UCL. He’s pretty sanguine about Oxford, saves his imposter syndrome going into overdrive.

temperedolive · 03/12/2025 02:54

Llangewydd57 · 02/12/2025 11:08

Where else have your DCs applied? My DC has applied for Warwick, Imperial, UCL and still unsure about the 5th but probably Durham or LSE or Bristol or Bath. Wish they’d make their mind up.

She has offers from Leeds, Bristol, Exeter and Birmingham. She originally had Nottingham on the list, hut it suspended her course so Birmingham was subbed in.

Part of me is somewhat rooting for Birmingham if Oxford doesn't happen as her sister is considering Birmingham City for after gap year and the two of them could share a studio which would likely be cost-saving, but ultimately it's up to them (and to Oxfo4d, of course!)

maturemummy · 03/12/2025 04:54

My son also received a rejection from Balliol yesterday & is very relaxed about it. He has offers from Manchester & Birmingham. Still waiting on Warwick & Durham. All are for MMath.
Best wishes for your son 😊

deathbyprocrastination · 03/12/2025 10:01

Very well done to all those who have got interviews, and to those who haven't –they have all worked so hard and have lots of great opportunities ahead of them.

@Christwosheds this is really helpful, thank you. Hope your DD had / is having a great time at Oxford.

wonkylegs · 03/12/2025 10:04

DS got his rejection from Oxford, he’s fairly chilled as he got an offer from Manchester which was his joint favourite

pinkdelight · 03/12/2025 10:10

Sounds like some very well adjusted DC dealing with it all admirably. Helps to have other great options where they’ll be happy and forget about this mad hoop jumping gamble. Onwards to exciting things…

Angelicart · 03/12/2025 15:23

Every year since I can remember the same poster comes on this thread at a certain point and causes upset by being patronising and dismissive of someone’s passing remark. Last year they got v snooty about someone describing the process as “brutal” and the row went on for days. They namechange but we veterans know exactly who they are. Among their fixations are the idea of competitive subjects. To which I say statistically it’s much harder to get in for some subjects than others. That doesn’t mean people reading eg classics can’t be very clever indeed.

Thus poster will now come on and sweetly say they are only trying to help and lots of people like their posts. As they do every year.

Anyway, newbies - ignore and don’t engage.

To those who’ve had bad news I’m really sorry because it is painful, but not for very long and this still in the game - good luck!

BridgeovertheriverTest · 03/12/2025 15:46

Phew, have just heard DTwin2 has also been called for interview at his chosen college.

ClaireBlunderwood · 03/12/2025 15:56

I'm so happy about that (over-invested in the twins).

BridgeovertheriverTest · 03/12/2025 16:02

Thank you, @ClaireBlunderwood !

Haywire · 03/12/2025 16:35

Phew, have just heard DTwin2 has also been called for interview at his chosen college.

Oh yay! I too was wondering about the outcome for the second twin

Llangewydd57 · 03/12/2025 16:48

BridgeovertheriverTest · 03/12/2025 15:46

Phew, have just heard DTwin2 has also been called for interview at his chosen college.

Great news, well done to both of them.

WhisperingAngelisnotbad · 03/12/2025 17:04

Well I did English at Oxford over 40 years ago. It was very competitive then, on a par with medicine. I was amused when a sixth former disparaged the subject as not very competitive - it has gone out of fashion now.

We all thought we were so very cool, back in the day...

Still waiting for DC to hear whether they have an interview for maths at Oxford.

Am reminding them to check their emails as apparently you have to reply promptly in the event of said interview. DC is being pretty chill. I guess the odds are not fantastic but it is still worth checking those emails.

It was all snail mail in my day.

WhisperingAngelisnotbad · 03/12/2025 17:05

Also, well done those twins!!

Greenleave · 03/12/2025 17:56

Wow, well done on the 2twin interview invite

MonGrainDeSel · 03/12/2025 18:05

So it looks like DD has two interviews, on different days with two different sets of people, but for the same college. She is trying to rearrange her work shifts which unfortunately fall on both the interview days and indulging in a little low level panic.

Happy to hear that second twin got an interview too!

Nuffalready · 03/12/2025 18:05

@BridgeovertheriverTest Fantastic news! Also over-invested in your twins!! I think for most subjects, even for the ‘very competitive’ courses (😉) we are now all down to around 1:3 chance of offer at the interview stage, statistically speaking, in the great Oxford lottery. If I was better at probability then I could work out chances of both twins being offered interview, which is just absolutely amazing, but I’m not, and who cares now anyway… So happy for all those who’ve jumped through the first hoop, and well done to all those brave enough to put themselves through the process in the first place. More drama and stress week after next!
