Oh Gosh really? That would be gutting for DD - missed it by 10 😣. I'm sort of clinging to the hope that quite alot on reddit proves to be factually incorrect (for instance my DD had well below the supposed 8.9 points you needed for Birmingham interview invitation according to reddit thread and still got one). Fingers crossed for your YP @rockstuckhardplace

Yes there is a lot of misinformation on Reddit! So hopefully @mumsneedwine's max 2080 cut off is correct, and your DD will get an interview. I've had no hope for my DD since the start - she "only" got 1940. Still an above-average score that might have been good enough another year, but not this year. It was her preferred choice so she said she couldn't not put it, and as she is limited by lack of Biology A-level so wasn't overrun with choices anyway. There could be worse outcomes. Missing it by 10 would be worse (I hope that isn't the case for your DD). Even worse would be if she didn't apply and then would have been above the cut off after all. So I think she did the right thing.

Yes, absolutely, I think it's always worth applying - you don't know if you don't try! Think the scores this year are insanely good and it was more difficult to pitch your applications at the right level because of the changes to the system. We'll see what happens. DD will be upset as she loved Sheffield and it was her top choice but she's got one and a week ago we weren't sure she'd get that - still a long way to go as well! Really hope your YP gets some good news! x

PurryGrowls · 10/12/2025 21:57

Congrats for all the Sheffield interviews and fingers crossed for your daughter @catty29 It’s such a nerve wracking process and goodness knows how our YP are supposed to concentrate on their A-level work!

I can only imagine how stressful the wait for actual offers is going to be - and then exam results day! 😬

Itsallstressstressstress · 10/12/2025 22:01

Still nothing here from Dundee, was expecting to hear by now. Just hoping it’s not bad news.

bluefineliner · 11/12/2025 06:11

@monkeytennismum we are waiting for Lancaster and Liverpool too still, hoping Lancaster will contact before Christmas but I think Liverpool will be Jan before we hear anything. Thankfully DD has 2 interviews so far so she can concentrate on those for now.

I think it is hardest for those who haven't heard either way when others have. Waiting is painful, but dragging it out for weeks on end in limbo is worse. Hoping at the end of all the waiting there are interviews!

We will be setting off to Newcastle in a few hours, DD had a few tears over something ridiculous last night so I think the interview nerves were kicking in. She has been in touch with a current med student there who has offered to meet her after her interview to show her around more. What a lovely person!

I'm feeling the nerves a bit now too and I don't have to do a thing today apart from be support crew 😂.

rockstuckhardplace · 11/12/2025 06:41

@Itsallstressstressstressalso waiting on Dundee. I haven't seen anything on other socials; it sounds like they've only called for dentistry so far so don't panic!

@bluefinelinerconsensus seems to be Jan for Liverpool based on prior years. I haven't heard of any express communication from the uni.

SlenderRations · 11/12/2025 08:33

Agree on January expectation for Liverpool, but I was expecting Lancaster to be out around now.

@rockstuckhardplace - thanks I have also been checking socials too and could see mention of dentistry but nothing else. Hopefully no news might still be good news. I was hoping he would hear before Christmas just so we know.

I am ageing a year each day!

PurryGrowls · 11/12/2025 09:59

We’re waiting on Lancaster too… I read somewhere the first interview offers were sent out on 17th last year…
Good luck for Newcastle @bluefineliner !

everydirection · 11/12/2025 10:35

Has anyone heard from Bristol. Son put on hold a few weeks ago. Ucat 2420 so thought hewould get an interview. Also waiting for Southampton

HelenofSparta · 11/12/2025 10:51

Nothing from Bristol since the on hold message either (similar UCAT score too @everydirection). Has anyone heard from Edinburgh who is in England (non Scottish entry) yet?

Good Luck. Theres a lively wee cafe just inside the medical school for a cuppa whilst you wait. Assuming interviews are in the med school

France8857 · 11/12/2025 11:55

we have had bristol and nottingham interviews now. bristol was tricky, nottingham much better. both said no decisions/offers made until march. a long time to wait....

Not sure if anyone else is waiting for Sheffield but I noticed they've updated their webpage with their UCAT boundaries for this year and it is 2120 so sadly it looks as if DD will miss the cutoff by 10 points - we still haven't heard but expecting a rejection. Still waiting for Southampton but focussed on prep for Birmingham now!

V sorry to hear that. The threshold has really increased this year, just like it did for Manchester. So competitive this year! Wishing you all the best for Southampton and Birmingham.

MyGreyBiscuit · 11/12/2025 15:27

interesting - Sheffield has published their thresholds

Sorry to hear that @catty29! Hope your DD gets the rest! The ranking cut off is quite high at 82nd percentile.. This year looks tough.

MyGreyBiscuit · 11/12/2025 15:33

sorry tried to share a screenshot of it but can't seem to do it!! sorry @catty29 about the boundaries - 10 points!

Schools like Leeds (and all those with opaque admission schemes) should adopt the same level of transparency and respect towards prospective candidates.

That is high, I was expecting it to be under 2000.

MyGreyBiscuit · 11/12/2025 16:16

it is quite high but why were you expecting it to be under 2000 @Itsallstressstressstress ?

Looking at last year's score of 2760 threshold (according to their own table), this year's 2120 cut off works out to be 2800 which is fairly similar. Interestingly, other than a dip in 2023/24 where the cut off was 2440/3600, the last few years have been 2850 (22/23), 2440 (23/24), 2760 (24/25) and now 2120 (which is 2800). Covid years they were 2740 (20/21), 2780 (21/22).

mumsneedwine · 11/12/2025 16:17

Sheffield confirmed its 2120 (mine apparently has a contextual flag so sorry for dud info). They have always been a v transparent uni (used to post cut off before issuing Interviews). It's pretty close to their normal cut off - last year was a bit weird. It's always been about 700 average. Bristol is still bonkers high !!!

A friend of mine has one of her children working there and had relayed that they thought it would be lower than previous years (didn’t say why though) and gave an indication of around the 2000 figure.
DS did consider applying there as well as his was around 2200 but last minute change.

inae · 11/12/2025 16:27

I think last year's cut off was (high) 7th decile for Sheffield. This year it's jumped to (low) 8th decile.

For me it's interesting to see that the ranking cutoff is higher for home non-contextual as compared to international. That's counterintuitive.
