Annual thread for those with dc about to embark on the rollercoaster of audition season. This is my second time round as my ds did it a couple of years ago. These threads are always really supportive and full of great advice as it’s often hard to explain to others how tough and competitive this process is. Good luck everyone!!

Seconding SOTE! DC has a friend on their foundation and it seems a great course. Applied for via ucas and supported by student finance.

Thank you, so if you don’t get a BA offer you can then apply via ucas for a foundation? Or can you get a foundation course via the clearing system?

I would have thought generally, foundation courses are too popular to be in clearing. You can either apply via ucas by the ucas deadline, or privately if it's a private drama school but in a lot of instances you can also be offered a foundation instead of a BA when you audition. My DD has been offered foundation at Conti off the back of a recall for BA. Artsed, Emil Dale, LIPA etc all do this too.

For those applying for acting BA, I think it’s rare to get in at 18. So don’t be disheartened. However, I think it’s good to set yourself an end date? For example, not everyone can get into med school at 18. Some try again the following year, some try the graduate route and some go down a different path altogether…… those wanting med school are just as passionate as those wanting a career in performing arts in my opinion.

My DD did get a place on an Acting BA (Leeds Conservatoire) on her first application, when she was 18 and in Yr 13 at school. I tried to impress upon her that this was rare and so she should grab the opportunity, but she turned it down. She’s applying again this year and I’ll be gutted if she doesn’t get any offers.

Ah thank you, it’s such a steep learning curve for both our YP and us as parents. So hard to see them get rejected, but we also have to build thick skin as its very much what happens in this industry. Don’t discount her other places as yet though, she may still have some recalls/offers to come, but always a good idea to look at other options too. Where has she applied to so far? My DD was also applying for both Acting and MT the past two years, however has now decided to solely focus on Acting.

She's applying for a mix including RCS and Birmingham for acting and Italia Conti for MT. Agree a thick skin is very much a prerequisite. Feel better to have this thread with such great advice. SOTE does look great but unfortunately too late to apply via UCAS. Anyway we shall see what happens, always knew this would be a process!

Hi all, was anyone at GSA yesterday for actor Muso? Did they say when you would hear? My DS was there 2 weeks ago and they said they’d be in touch after the audition on the 24th. He’s wondering how much longer the wait might be 🤪🙈

DD was on 10th too. Not heard either. I HATE THE WAITING.

NervesAreShot · 25/01/2026 15:29

Also has anyone had an outcome following RCS first round in person?

Fingers crossed for your daughter too 🤞 Which instrument did she play? My son was the bassist.

No, DD is still waiting.

Anyone heard from Leeds after an MT recall yet? Be good to know how long they usually take too.

Recall in person last Wednesday. She's not a dancer first so I (and she) thought she didn't have much of a chance but when she did her interview they were really
keen on her instruments which may have swayed it. I didn't realise they also teach a music performance degree and like to collaborate under the City St George's department of performing arts umbrella. She also had a bit of a "just go for for it"'attitude as she knew she would not be technically up there with what was a hugely technical jazz dance call with box jumps, calypso, the lot! She can dance well
but has no formal Dance training other than stagebox and BOA the last 2 years. Just shows you never know!

Truetoself · 27/01/2026 07:25

@Sop2shows they are looking for potential rather than the “finished” article! Well done to her!

nothing here either - what would be her top choice? GSA, Urdang or somewhere else? The GSA course is by far and away my DS’s first choice and with odds of 10 to 1 for 18 year olds applying (according to UCAS) I’m beyond nervous for him 😬

It's better than 25/3000 though for MT!
GSA was always her top choice by a country mile but Urdang has thrown a spanner in the works as it's in a beautiful part of London with very strong links to the West End. If she's lucky enough to be given the choice then she has some serious thinking to do.
