Hello I'm trying to get my head around the open day and distances. The subject talk is quite early but it looks like we could spend all day at the subject talk area meeting tutors but we need to look at accommodation options also and colleges.

I've googled the best colleges for her subject and I hope to visit three? Does this sound like a plan? Is this what uther people do?

@coffeegirl73Theres a FOI asking Oxford about successful law applications and GCSE grades. I’ll try and summarize;
Rows 1-19 had successful applicants but only 7/19. None below row 19. You would need to look at DCs combination of results to judge if an application is worthwhile. This is just one year. There are other years to look at but this gives you a strong guide as to what profile actually gets an offer.

You need to match 2 sides of the document or find the FOI request and download all the data - it is there. Then you can make an accurate mathematical judgement on chance.

Yes, choosing not just the right university but also the best college can feel overwhelming. I recommend taking a look at The Big Book of Oxbridge Applications by UniAdmissions. It covers both Oxford and Cambridge, along with detailed information about their individual colleges. There’s also a helpful section on Open Days and how to make the most of them. The book is free and definitely worth checking out.

Much less overwhelming if you just pick a college you like the look of when you visit, once you've confirmed that it offers your course.

We are waiting for our train to Cambridge for tomorrow’s open day. Did anyone go today? Any tips?

We are focusing on the department talk and tour but hoping to fit in some colleges too. I’m looking forward to it. The pre open day webinars were really helpful and encouraging.

Crazy trains this evening but we are nearly there. Hope they fix the signals for tomorrow.

Great but busy day in the 30 degree sunshine. Saw three colleges and the department and went to the department talk. Crazy busy train leaving just after 5 but at least not cancelled today. DD is even more enthusiastic about it all now - has a front runner college and liked the department. Just a question of beating the odds now and/or not getting too hung up on it.
