I for one still have a kid waiting to hear about interviews. Thought I'd carry it over...

@Gina555 we’re still waiting to hear about maths here - I think you are too. There have been some maths interviews and rejections trickling out so hard for DD not knowing when she might hear! She did get a Bath offer this week though so has an excellent alternative whatever happens which is good.

Yes, waiting to hear about Maths. I find not having an actual date for a response very frustrating. I looked at the dates of the interviews a while back and realised we are on holiday that week!

Well done on the Bath offer.
I know a few mums with DC there and they highly recommend it.

@CurlyhairedAssassin Thank you for sharing that! My own dim-and-distant Oxbridge experience certainly involved harder work than any other part of my life. For info, ENGAA and NSAA have now merged into ESAT (and a few other STEM courses sit that, too, including some at Imperial).

Thanks. I'm curious about the new ESAT. It feels like it would be too broad, however I've just looked and it seems that the maths part is for all the candidates, then they choose the modules pertaining to the course they want to do from the others?

CurlyhairedAssassin · 01/12/2024 21:19

@PhotoDad oh and sorry, I hadn'dt read the whole thread so didn't realise you're Oxbridge-educated yourself.

Everyone does Maths 1. Then two other sections. Engineers have to do Maths 2 and Physics. NatScis get a free choice (DS did Chem and Phys). Can't recall the combos for other courses (including Imperial) off the top of my head!

My son just got an interview invite for Maths at Worcester. He’s very pleased - he didn’t know how he’d done in the MAT as says he was thrown a bit by timings. Best of luck to everyone else still waiting!

Well done to your son.
Mine just got his through too 😀

Gina555 · 02/12/2024 10:43

We are on holiday when he has his interview ( booked it over a year ago), just hoping the internet connection is good while on a longer next to the pool 😆

Fingers crossed! DS has been asked to have paper and a thick pen/marker to hand so he can hold up equations etc if screen sharing doesn't work. Might be just as well to pack those for your trip!

Is your DS Maths too?
Maybe a mini whiteboard and board marker-I wouldn’t want the paper to get splashed from the pool 🤣

Cambridge NatSci, but I suspect that a maths interview will also involve doing some maths! 😀

I was going to ask what they need for maths interviews. Do they need an iPad or similar? Had heard so and son doesn’t have one so will need to organise.

IfYouLook · 02/12/2024 14:43

Dd got her interview for econ management today - she’s v pleased. I’ll be glad when it’s all done and dusted either way.

Good luck everyone still waiting / prepping for interview. Commiserations for those it wasn’t to be. Dd had a no after interview at Cambridge last year but decided to roll the dice again.

BananasAllofIt · 02/12/2024 14:44

Still waiting to hear on Psychology at O. But thinking likely we'll get news this week....

Hi. I'm not sure if this is the right group to ask this in, but bear with me! My daughter has been invited for an interview at St Catherines, Oxford, having applied to Brasenose. Any opinions or info about the college? She's applied to do Linguistics and ML. Thank you!

HewasH2O · 02/12/2024 15:07

Catz is lovely & not remotely stuffy. DD had a large friendship group at Catz despite being at a much older college herself. It's a 5 -10 minute walk onto the main streets, off the tourist trail, next door to the social sciences library, close to the chemistry labs. They have their own Barbara Hepworth sculptures in the grounds. Easy for pick ups & drop offs at the start & end of term. Would recommend.

PhotoDad · 02/12/2024 15:13

One of my friends was at Catz and loved it! Off the beaten track and new(ish) buildings, which are both good things.

MathsUni · 02/12/2024 15:56

I am de-lurking to congratulate @Gina555 and @PalmedOlive 's DCs with Oxford Maths interviews! My own DD is desperately hoping to join them, although the odds are against it given how competitive this is. There will be tears either way as she has completely fallen in love with the place, having been there several times this year, mainly thanks to a brilliant programme run by staff and students. So now I can't get any work done...

Misfitkickedoutonthestreet · 02/12/2024 16:14

Still waiting here... dc royally fed up now as they start in a week today. I keep saying 'any day now' but she's losing the will to live, especially as 3 of her friends got their invites last week.

Stockpot · 02/12/2024 16:21

DD just received an invitation to interview for engineering. I’m really pleased for her. I don’t know if she is a fit for C or not, I’ll leave that to the profs interviewing her. I’m glad she is interviewing though, I think it’s a useful experience to have even if you don’t end up with an offer.

nearden · 02/12/2024 17:02

Still waiting on MFL, fingers crossed my daughter hears soon.
