I for one still have a kid waiting to hear about interviews. Thought I'd carry it over...

DD got an offer for Computer Science at Jesus!

Congratulations to your DD! Go Computer Science girls!!

Stockpot · 30/01/2025 12:06

DD was pooled to Girton. We are delighted for her.

Commiserations to all the DC who have just missed out. This was our older DD three years ago. She is at another university now and she is flying, the world is her oyster.

Namefortodayandtomorrow · 30/01/2025 12:22

It’s a yes for our DD. She was going to keep me waiting until after her exam today but luckily for my blood pressure she texted me as soon as she heard. History and MFL at Magdalene which is where she applied. Good luck to everyone still waiting and best wishes to those who didn’t get the news they wanted today.

pandapoop · 30/01/2025 12:24

No for mine. How do you find out if you were pooled. Only had UCAS update - no email yet.

tortoise18 · 30/01/2025 12:26

It'll say in the email

yonderhouse · 30/01/2025 12:38

If you were pooled you'll either get a rejection from the college you originally applied to, or an offer from the college that accepted you from the pool.

Risingroad · 30/01/2025 13:05

I understand that if it's a rejection then the email says if you were pooled, whichever college it comes from. My DC2 has just texted several hours after the fact, to say it's a yes, which is a great relief, as they wanted a place so very badly, but celebrations will be a bit muted on account of DC1's disappointment (though they wanted it less).

@Namefortodayandtomorrow my DD is a yes for MFL at Magdalene too!

That’s amazing! Which langauages? My DD has gone for Russian (ab initio). I haven’t seen the college yet as my DH went to the open day but he said it’s really nice.

Panicmode1 · 30/01/2025 13:55

Congrats to your DCs @Namefortodayandtomorrow and @GavlarShmavlar - the formal halls by candlelight are very special, and going to evensong before makes a lovely trip. Maybe see you at one next academic year...!

(I studied Russian (and French) at uni, although not at C)

DS in for that subject a different college. Wonder how big the class will be.

Magdalen is stunning. We got a tour of the new library at the open day, and saw the old Samuel Pepys library from the outside (closed for renovation). The residential village across the road looks onto the river. Just gorgeous. My DC2 will be starting there too in September, if she gets the grades.

GavlarShmavlar · 30/01/2025 14:12

My DD is studying German with Spanish Ab Initio.

Panicmode1 · 30/01/2025 14:28

Looks as though there may have to be a Mumsnet Magdalene Meet Up at Michaelmas - last one to Fitzbillies buys the buns. 😂

Congratulations to all of the offer holders for M - and all of the other colleges - and huge commiserations to those with disappointed DCs - they WILL be absolutely fine and thrive elsewhere, but it stings for a bit.

One dc accepted; the other pooled and 'redirected'.

One dc accepted; the other pooled and 'redirected'.

Does that mean two acceptances??

murasaki · 30/01/2025 15:43

Pooled and not picked up, I think. I do feel for twins and their parents when this happens.

imip · 30/01/2025 16:24

Congrats to all those with offers. I am leaving the thread now but wish your young people well.

I imagine it will be fairly small, less than 10? Which college @tortoise18 ?

Coldilocks · 30/01/2025 16:50

DS has come home and is very happy as he was put in the Winter Pool (and then rejected) which means he was the most successful STEM applicant in the school and got further in the process.

Congratulations to the Cambridge Computer Science girls. You’ve done brilliantly and you will continue to be brilliant 🤩

Splattsagain · 30/01/2025 16:56

My DD got pooled and picked up by Fitzwilliam for English Lit. Next step A levels!
