I for one still have a kid waiting to hear about interviews. Thought I'd carry it over...

Second college for MFL here - came late in the day (5.30pm) for Monday. Dc pleased not to have been written off yet as second interview at first college didn't go well.

Good luck to your DC.

@Currentquandry Sorry to read about your ds- sounds almost exactly like mine, except he normally is good at talking and he won't stop beating himself up for having 'fucked it,' as he has succinctly put it. I feel like a bit of a flop as a parent as he is so obsessed with Oxbridge and really uninspired by all his other options, which is ridiculous. Hopefully, if he's right and it's going to be a no, he will have partially accepted it before it becomes official and will be able to move on.

The awful thing is I think he may be hoping for a second interview, the summons for which will apparently come by 11am on Monday. I'm worried if that doesn't happen he'll go back to square one for a bit.

Thank you for your kind words, @coffeerevelsrule and crossed fingers for good news on Monday for your DS. As you say, even if they are right about how they've done, by the time the news comes they'll have accepted it a bit -- and maybe started to consider the other options with more openness. Don't blame yourself though! Our kids find their own passions and their own answers and (sometimes frustratingly) the ways in which we can help them along the way are limited. They're learning how to get started and we're learning how to let go...

Anyway, it isn't over til it's over and then there will be an answer after that in any case! Good luck to your DS -- and you!

@Currentquandry oh my sympathies but you are right - your DS (like all of the young'uns on this thread) really has done incredibly well to get an interview offer.

And whatever happens they've got everything they need to enjoy the next phase of their lives - at least they're not going to college to study something they aren't excited by!

Thank you for your lovely post @HarrietteVane -- so kind of you and I really appreciate it!

simonthedog · 13/12/2024 21:37

@coffeerevelsrule is your son History? DD is applying to Worcester, no word on a second interview yet.

ColouringPencils · 15/12/2024 21:24

Good luck to everyone with interviews coming up this week!

ipredictariot5 · 15/12/2024 23:27

2 tomorrow 1 on Tuesday, hoping it all
goes OK for everyone

imip · 16/12/2024 06:28

Dd has her interview for C today. She also has her art mocks, which go for two days. She is doing half her mock at home today and the other half in school. It’s worth 60% of her final mark. She is fairly stressed at the moment and, therefore, so am I!

Thank you…about to start interview number 1 🤞

expandabandband · 16/12/2024 09:18

Good luck to everyone with interviews this week.

Nothing else here - am trying to hope that this is a positive sign.

I am in awe of the stamina of the young. DD had the two interviews this week, spent the weekend at her Christmas supermarket temping and still got up on time this morning. Or perhaps it's good not to have time to brood.

PhotoDad · 16/12/2024 09:36

Good luck, everyone!

maybemedmum · 16/12/2024 09:51

Two interviews today and two tomorrow and DD is ill (sore throat, shivery, head cold). Luckily she hasn't lost her voice, though it's definitely ropey.
Driving her into college to do the interviews to save her energy as an hour each way on the bus.
Good luck everyone this week. Nearly there now...(with this bit!)

Gina555 · 16/12/2024 11:32

Good luck everyone. DS interview 1 completed, detailed feedback from him-it was fine 🤣

pistachioicecream · 16/12/2024 11:50

Good luck everyone🤞

DD has two today and one tomorrow. Can't wait for them to be over!

JulietOnTheMoon · 16/12/2024 13:49

Good luck, everyone. DS has the third interview with O tomorrow. The notification came in this morning. Knowing how relaxing he was over the weekend, I asked him if he had prepared for it, and his reply was 'no'! He said he learnt nothing could be prepared from the last two interviews so all he cared about was keeping in good condition by eating well and sleeping well (he was ill for the interview with Imperial). At this stage, I guess he is right!

Misfitkickedoutonthestreet · 16/12/2024 13:57

Good luck to everyone's Dcs - 2 last week, 2 this week for a different college. Fingers crossed she's not as upset after these as she was last week!

Is this Maths?
Second interview just completed. DS says he is exhausted as the Maths was so hard.

DS has now been told he has a third interview at a second college (St Johns) on Tuesday - (Oxford, Maths, open application), two interviews (at Pembroke) on Monday morning and afternoon (all online).. So reading this makes me more hopeful.

<waves from 50B thread>

Good luck, son of elkiedee!

Unfortunately DS didn't get an interview at O after the PAT but at least it means he can now relax on holiday!

ofteninaspin · 16/12/2024 15:15

@maybemedmum, I hope your DD’s interviews go well today in spite of having a virus.
Your post reminds me of DD feeling completely rubbish before her second Oxford interview. She had stayed in college overnight and woke up with a sore throat and headache and felt thoroughly miserable. She emailed the second interviewing college to ask if she should stay away (she was desperate to come home) or attend the interview. The college sent a taxi for her (it was normally easily walkable) and the tutor ushered her in and insisted she sat by the fire and handed her a cup of tea. DD said she sniffed and sneezed through the interview but everyone was so kind.
Hope it’s a good outcome for your DD too.

Sorry that your DS didn't get an interview. Hope he ends up somewhere that he really enjoys and does well.

maybemedmum · 16/12/2024 16:48

That's a lovely story @ofteninaspin. Sounds like they were so kind.
Today is the first time I've been glad interviews aren't face to face with an overnight stay - would have definitely been a struggle. Sounds like it went OK, as far as she can tell. On the sofa dosing up with cold remedies now before she goes again tomorrow!

elkiedee · 16/12/2024 16:52

This morning's scheduled interview was rather derailed by tech problems and took 10 minutes to set up so they said they would try and reschedule one later today, so he could have the full half hour. (Full credit for trying to make sure candidates have an opportunity to complete the interviews properly, I do think that's really good). He then got a message by 9 am - rescheduled 1st interview at 1 pm, 2nd interview at 2.

I ended up sending the 6th form administrator emails saying he would be in late and leave early, then wouldn't be in at all today, then responded to an acknowledgement, oh he's decided to come in for a bit after all!

After all that, 1 pm interview didn't go well, he was asked questions which he'd seen before in practising for the MAT but found it all a bit weird. But he felt he'd found his feet for the 2 pm interview, and now he's got another one tomorrow at 2 pm. I've had my own email from Oxford telling me that decisions come through on 14 January.

Sounds positive overall 😀
My DS said interview 1 went well but in interview 2 the questions were much more difficult, managed to work out the first two but only partially worked out question 3 and asked to be pointed in the right direction. So overall ok and a pleasant experience-interviewers were all very nice and chatty.

pistachioicecream · 16/12/2024 18:13

Well done everyone for surviving interviews today. Sounds like some of them went really well which is great news!

Two down here. First one was not good. I think nerves played a big part and it doesn't sound like the interviewer did anything to help her overcome those; if anything they made it worse.

Thankfully the second one went much better and she came out very happy. So at least she's had one positive interview experience.

One more to go.

Gina555 · 16/12/2024 18:25

Sounds like most have had one interview better than the other. All DS’s friends have said the same.
Good luck tomorrow.

ipredictariot5 · 16/12/2024 18:54

My DS seems so chilled out I am convinced there must have been trick questions and he missed the point but he says not. From what I can see interviews going well mean nothing and it’s the harder ones where you have been really stretched are the ones that count! Last one tomorrow
