A level results day 2024

How’s everyone else feeling about results day? I’ve got one at uni already and 2nd dd hoping to go to Kent in September. She seems ok about it at the moment although think that will change as it gets closer. Me I’m so keeping my fingers crossed she gets what she wants, I know there will always be other options but she loved the open day. Going to struggle with this one going though as it has been a real journey to get to where she is.

My son didn’t get the points he needed for his degree apprenticeship. I’m heartbroken for him as he worked so bloody hard.

mondaytosunday · 15/08/2024 08:27

Good news @Headingto18 and @Rollergirl11! Also all others. And keep a level head those who are seeking alternatives. I didn't get in to my first choice after applying twice but after time out and a rethink I chose a better more suitable option with no regrets.

JeromeKJerome · 15/08/2024 08:28

UCAS says got 1st choice but insurance has emailed with congratulations- you have a place. Not had email from 1st choice. I assume UCAS is correct?

He needs to ring first choice asap

ViciousCurrentBun · 15/08/2024 08:31

@JeromeKJerome UCAS is correct, many places are short of students hence why insurance offer has come through. In fact some are desperate looking at where I used to work has some courses offered with C grades.

Sorry to hear that @Frightenedbunny - who is it with?

Dd was told if she doesn't get what she needs for the Degree Apprenticeship offer they may still offer her another position/way in

Neither of us have any idea how or when she will find out though - from the Uni or the company?!

Cantonet · 15/08/2024 08:33

Ds got into loughborough.
But i've been banished from his room while he looks at his grades 🤔

Juja · 15/08/2024 08:35

@Frightenedbunny - how very tough - do ring the company where he was due to the do his degree apprenticeship and see if they will still take him.

Havingtoomuchfun · 15/08/2024 08:36

All DDs friends got their first choice of uni too. They couldn't wait until 9am to tell each other. DD was the one to break the code 🤣

Delphigirl · 15/08/2024 08:36

Hurrah! AAA and into her first choice phew

BunnyLake · 15/08/2024 08:36

My DS has not come into me which makes me think it’s not good news. He doesn’t mind which of the two he gets but now I’m concerned he hasn’t got either. I want to go to his room but he won’t appreciate it. I’ll have to wait for him to come to me. It’s nail biting stuff.

listsandbudgets · 15/08/2024 08:38

She's in to first choice .. so happy for her..

JudgeJ · 15/08/2024 08:40

Can anyone tell me where I can find the grade boundaries for AQA maths?

Will the school get them eventually, as well as the individual's marks?

OlympicGoldfish · 15/08/2024 08:40

@Frightenedbunny your poor DS, especially if he worked hard. He might still have options with the company, good luck.

That reminds me of when DD got her results. I was awake, dh was awake. We didn't want to disturb her but she didn't come through. Eventually at about 8.45 I decided that I would go through.

She'd been lying there since 7.30, not wanting to disturb us with results she needed.

Take him in a cup of tea or something. You don't need to say anything, but you can probably tell by his reaction.

Well done to all who got what they wanted.

I'm in the exact same boat. DD was going to check this morning and she hasn't come down which is making me fear the worst. I know not to go in to her though as she won't appreciate it and I know she will come to me when she is ready but I am currently really worried.

A relative is needing AAA for Oxford. Not heard from the Whats App family chat and wont ask. They are not a showing off sort of family so maybe things are OK

Frightenedbunny · 15/08/2024 08:42

@Juja and @jackstini it was with BAE. They’re holding sessions next week with people who haven’t got the grades so hoping they may offer something else. Thank you for your kind words.

So sorry, I hope today brings lots of opportunities. These things, whilst shitty at the time, always work out.
I didn’t get into my first choice uni, and looking back I am very glad my life went off in a different direction.
Different paths are sometimes the best and unexpected opportunities will come through. Best of luck

If a lot of people applying have got fewer than expected points does that not mean they may still take him? I'm a few years out of the loop though.

Distinction, Distinction, Distinction!
DS had an unconditional offer but this has given him a much needed confidence boost after disasterous GCSEs 2 years ago. So pleased.

Good news BAE have a session though at this time it must seem like a long wait for you and DS. In the meantime can he look at clearing options or was he not wanting a full time uni option? Depending on grade foundation degrees can be a good option - I know plenty of people who've successfully taken that route... especially in engineering and technical subjects.

Princessdebthe1st · 15/08/2024 08:46

My DD got AAA and into her firm to study history. I am beyond proud of her. She has had such a difficult year, my mum died a couple of weeks before the start of exams and she has had to deal with a health condition that caused severe pain. Despite this she worked so hard and I am beyond proud of her!
