A level results day 2024

How’s everyone else feeling about results day? I’ve got one at uni already and 2nd dd hoping to go to Kent in September. She seems ok about it at the moment although think that will change as it gets closer. Me I’m so keeping my fingers crossed she gets what she wants, I know there will always be other options but she loved the open day. Going to struggle with this one going though as it has been a real journey to get to where she is.

Can anyone tell me how long they have to accept their offer? DS has gone in the shower but I'm assuming he has more than an hour 😆

mamaduckbone · 15/08/2024 08:50

My ds has got into his first choice despite getting A*BB when they wanted AAA. He was one mark off an A in history and 4 marks off in politics so is going to ask for them to be remarked.

So happy that he's into his first choice but gutted he didn't get the grades he's worked so hard for. (His gf got As in both which is rubbing salt into the wound a bit too)

OvaHere · 15/08/2024 08:52

Good luck/congrats to all A level students today. DS is going in to A2 this year so following all this with interest. Forearmed and all that! 😄

It is assumed they accept unless they withdraw.

lifeturnsonadime · 15/08/2024 08:55

DS got the grades he needed for history at UCL , phew! Well done to all of our kids! And to those whose path is not certain I went through clearing many years ago and loved my uni and course.

RamonaRamirez · 15/08/2024 08:57

@Cantonet iirc at L’boro you need to get your skates on and confirm accommodation as soon as you have a definite yes

(may have changed since a few years ago)

pgtips2 · 15/08/2024 09:00

Which universities guarantee accommodation for students (thinking Bristol, Bath, Nott'ham, Southampton....)?

ZiriForGood · 15/08/2024 09:01

Congratulations to everyone done and fingers crossed for everyone searching alternatives.

I'm not in the UK and I'm curious, how does it work with clearing?

1)I understand that in UCAS system everyone sees whether they are accepted in either of their courses.
2)It seems that they get detailed grades only when they come to school.
3)And it was written here that the clearing opens at 9 AM.

How does it work together? They call the other universities "blindly" without knowing their results, but the unis know? Or the system tells the unsuccessful ones so they can look for other places? Or they have to wait for their school results, and can't join until they have them, giving unfair advantage to those who have faster school?

MandyMiceDavies · 15/08/2024 09:03

DS got AAB, offer was AAA but he has been accepted by his first choice anyway, phew!

LIZS · 15/08/2024 09:04

They normally collect results then call potential Clearing options. Some open from 8 until late.

mondaytosunday · 15/08/2024 09:05

@ZiriForGood yes students need to know their exact grades for clearing which they get from their school. Often schools are happy to help with this so students go in, and some schools email some have students collect their grades anyway, but there shouldn't be such a big delay that it would disadvantage a student.

OublietteBravo · 15/08/2024 09:05

DS has finally gone off to school to see his friends (and have breakfast - apparently they’re putting on a buffet for everyone).

Now LB give you a time slot -DS has to go on at 1pm today!

Hoppinggreen · 15/08/2024 09:07

Poor DD did an additional A level on her own in 1 year and bascially taught herself as she was keem to do a specific course but she did far worse than she hoped (D whereas her A levels last year were AAA) and her first choice have refused her in clearing as she needs a C, which has actually dropped from an A pre clearing.
Her Insurance (which to be honest I think is a better option) has said they will accept her or her 1st choice has given her an offer to do Foundation so she is deciding now and we are also looking into a remark.
She has gone to drink Champers and watch TV with her BF who is currently staying with us while she decides what to do.

Tortiemiaw · 15/08/2024 09:09

DD got ABC for York and needed ABB so we are very happy with that. It seems a lot are getting offers with slightly lower grades.

Thank you so much for this.
I'm relaying the info. to ds in real time from you both!

Sniffywhippymum · 15/08/2024 09:14

Holy shit that was stressful!!! DD has been accepted onto her first choice and has had her place confirmed at Liverpool. So chuffed for her, she has worked so hard!!

autumn1610 · 15/08/2024 09:16

@Hoppinggreen what was she planning on doing? I was desperate to get onto physio and missed out by a grade and got offered a foundation, I did it but actually dropped out after completing it, as I found the step up too much on a subject I thought I was ok at so knew i just wouldn’t cope on the course. I swapped to something completely different at the same uni

LightFull · 15/08/2024 09:17

Do they have to do anything else now once their place has been confirmed on UCAS

There's a decline button and that's all

Sniffywhippymum · 15/08/2024 09:20

I have never been through this process before so excuse if this is a stupid question. But when they get their offer do they have to actually do something to accept it or anything? She has had her 'congratulations you are in' email but does she need to do anything now? Thanks

Nope. The assumption is they'll accept unless they actively decline. The Uni will be in touch. They should know already if they need to do anything specific now re. Accommodation before hearing from the Uni.

UniDaysAcoming · 15/08/2024 09:22

DS got his first choice! He needed AAA , instead got A*AA - but got accepted.
Very relieved!

LightFull · 15/08/2024 09:23

@PatriciaHolm

Thank you

That's what I thought but then a PP mentioned something about accepting so I suddenly panicked

DDs school said she had 24hrs to accept, now stressing about getting the email from her uni of choice as she is going to TayTay concert tonight and has to travel for that,

GrandesRandonnees · 15/08/2024 09:23

No kids here but this is bringing back memories of 30 years ago when I got my results! I didn’t get into my first choice (Nottingham) but did get my insurance choice (Sheffield) and it was the best thing that could have happened. Loved my course and am still in touch with many of the friends I made there. Good luck to everyone.
