@NoNotHimTheOtherOne thank you for that fantastic explanation- think this is what some Unis call kranking (have no idea why). Explains why DD would tell me she got 75% right but 58% counted towards her academic ranking score. Always confused me !

I think this means ranking, not kranking.

mumsneedwine · 06/07/2024 17:56

Kranking is a thing.

@Waferbiscuit so sorry. It's a tough tough thing to deal with. Hugs and new plans

@Waferbiscuit hugs to you and your DD

Sybill · 06/07/2024 20:54

Sorry to hear your update @Waferbiscuit All the best to your DD for her next steps

Groundhogday2021 · 07/07/2024 18:15

So sorry to hear @Waferbiscuit
IB is so hard and I really feel for your dd especially after securing a place at med school this year. Best of luck for future plans 🤞

speedyhedgehog · 12/07/2024 15:38

Sending hugs to you and your dd @waferbiscuit. Hope new doors open for her

ipredictariot5 · 17/07/2024 23:51

Sorry to hear the news @Waferbiscuit - some of the best med students I ever met missed their grades first time round
were not hopeful here - DD got dumped a week before the A levels started and she struggled with revision. It feels like a long long summer to wait now and she’s managing expectations

Habbibu · 05/08/2024 12:32

Just stopping back in to say good luck to those getting sqa results tomorrow. DD got an email from Glasgow the other day saying we are sorry you rejected our offer- Glasgow is her insurance so she very much had not rejected the offer. I'm hoping that means that they have the results and know that she has what she needs for Dundee!

OwlMother · 05/08/2024 12:45

Oh wow, that's not great from Glasgow but hopefully bodes well for Dundee, I think you mentioned?

We are waiting too. DS is remarkably blasé about the whole thing. Last year he didn't bother to tell us when he had received the text, I won't be impressed if we have the same again.

Habbibu · 05/08/2024 13:04

Yeah, I think there's a poor uni administrator in Glasgow kicking themselves now .I'm kind of envying your blase situation. We don't have that! I say that but she's headed off to work today and is seemingly calm on the outside but I know she can't wait until she knows. Dundee is her first choice but also highest tariff. Her friend is waiting for results to get into Belfast dentistry which is us for 2 As at advanced higher so that's much more stressful! Which did your DS firm again?

OwlMother · 05/08/2024 13:13

He went for Aberdeen with Dundee as back up- Aberdeen really sold him at the open day. He is normally quite accurate with how well he did in the exams, counts marks before he finishes up. I'm hoping that this isn't the year he comes unstuck!

Habbibu · 05/08/2024 13:25

Fingers crossed for all of them!

OwlMother · 06/08/2024 15:27

Hope today went well for your DD @Habbibu.

DS had to be woken to check his text and has done as he expected so will be starting at Aberdeen next month. It suddenly feels real!

He was especially pleased to get an A for French as that was his risky subject, school would have preferred he take maths or physics for a safer A (he has always been able to do maths standing on his head but isn't enthused by it). He got full marks for the speaking and portfolio sections so is delighted to prove them wrong!

Hope anyone else who is waiting got the results they were waiting for.

Randomactofkindness · 06/08/2024 16:38

Fantastic news for your son @OwlMother - congratulations to him!
We are still waiting for A level results - it’s going to be a long 9 days!

mumsneedwine · 06/08/2024 17:42

Congratulations @OwlMother . Aberdeen is an awesome city (worked there many moons ago while on the rigs - I've had an interesting job history 😂).
Hope nerves holding out for everyone else. I suggest having a good box set/series to watch on Netflix for results night 🥰

OP posts:
Habbibu · 07/08/2024 06:21

Yeah, DD is over the moon and got exactly what she wanted. We went on a long driving lesson to calm her nerves the night before. I don't think she even slept!
Just gutted for her friend who just missed her offer for Belfast. Appeal has gone in but not too hopeful.

Sybill · 07/08/2024 06:39

Huge congratulations to @Habbibu and @OwlMother DCs - fantastic to hear the great news and that you can start the moving to uni planning! So exciting 🥳
I also spent time working in in Aberdeen via the rigs @mumsneedwine !! Feels like a lifetime ago but it was a brilliant city to be young in - great choice for university 👍

Groundhogday2021 · 07/08/2024 09:39

Huge congrats to your dc @Habbibu and @OwlMother 🎉 Yours were the first with offers and now the first to know they are definitely off to Medical School!

Not long now for the rest of us… fingers crossed for everyone else. 🤞 🍀

mumsneedwine · 07/08/2024 09:58

@Habbibu congratulations 🥂

OP posts:
Randomactofkindness · 07/08/2024 10:27

@Habbibu hugep congratulations to your daughter!

Habbibu · 07/08/2024 11:21

Thanks! Fingers crossed for the rest of you...

ipredictariot5 · 07/08/2024 18:18

Congrats all. Anxious time here. DD got dumped the week before the A levels. No idea how much she was able to cram after that. She is downbeat. But v much committed now to resits if misses grades. Guess it’s made her think about how much she wants to do it.

Randomactofkindness · 07/08/2024 18:49

@ipredictariot5 sorry to hear that for your daughter 😢 Fingers crossed all will go well on 15th 🤞🏻
My daughter was poorly for her last 4 exams so the stress levels are high here - we’ve not really talked much about Plan B………it’s her 18th birthday tomorrow so we are focusing on fun things!

OwlMother · 07/08/2024 19:35

That's brilliant news @Habbibu! Well done to your DD. Such a relief the waiting is finally over and they can really start to look forward to it all.
